W vs Obama - who has the better President?

    Let the games Begin.

Bush got us into 2 of the longest wars in our history with no positives show for our effort.  Over saw one of the 2 worst banking sector collapses in our History.  Had a net loss of jobs and a net loss in the Stock Market.  Had one of the worst responses to a disaster in our modern history.  Accelerated the widening of the income gap. Oh, and then there's 9/11.  Went from budget surplus to huge deficit.

obama - big increase in jobs.  Stock market is at record highs.  Corporate profits at record highs. Enacted and implemented ObamaCare of which major parts are wildly popular.  Ended our involvement in Iraq before the country split apart.  Ending our involvement in Afghanistan.  Kept us out of Syria, Egypt, and Libya, much to the chagrin of the Chicken hawks.  Shrinking budget deficit.  Has prevented Iran from going nuclear (so far) without the use of force. Prevented the country from slipping into a Depression.  saved the banking sector.  Saved the car industry.  Led the country to energy independence.  Of, and ordered the death of Bin Laden.

    Yes, you forgot the truth.

Let's take just one of your list: "Shrinking budget deficit"

Barack Obama gave us four years of deficits that were $1.4 trillion, 1.3 trillion, 1.3 trillion, and 1.1 trillion. There have never been deficits remotely approaching these; the last year of George W. Bush’s tenure, the deficit was less than half of a trillion dollars.  Obama proposed even more reckless spending which was dead on arrival.

The latest deficit was a bit less. Taking credit for a "shrinking deficit" is akin to a 400 pound man bragging he only gained 20 pounds in a year, not the 100 pounds he gained the year before...

Obama’s claim that he saved GM from bankruptcy is false. Even a bizarre bankruptcy is a bankruptcy is a bankruptcy, to paraphrase Gertrude Stein, for my intellectual readers. Obama’s cars Czar strong armed GM through a political bankruptcy that flaunted judicial practice to reward Obama’s union allies and protect their gold-plated pensions, put the government in charge of product lines and investment, cheat creditors, and leave taxpayers on the hook for tens of billions of dollars.

Nice try, but the federal fiscal calendar starts in October of the prior year, and the 2009 deficit projection was $1.2 trillion before Obama ever took the oath.

Bush = 200 billion dollar surplus when he took office, 1.2 trillion deficit when he left.

Obama = 1.2 trillion deficit when he took office, $492 billion six years later.

Re: W vs Obama - who has the better President?

"obama - big increase in jobs"

You must be kidding! Worst recovery from a recession since WW2.

Don’t look now, but President Obama’s economic legacy may already have been written. Now in its sixth year, his administration continues to wait in vain for a recovery. Even if the recovery arrives, it may be too late for it to matter.

Mr. Obama’s economy has performed worse than any president’s since Franklin D. Roosevelt. Simply averaging real gross domestic product (GDP) growth over a president’s tenure, Mr. Obama’s is the lowest by almost a full percentage point.

    FDR’s (from 1933-40, excluding the war years) averaged 6.2 percent; Harry Truman (1947-52) averaged 3.8 percent; Dwight Eisenhower’s (1953-60) was 3 percent; John F. Kennedy-Lyndon Johnson, (1961-68), 5 percent; Richard Nixon-Gerald Ford (1969-76), 2.8 percent; Jimmy Carter (1977-80), 3.3 percent; Ronald Reagan (1981-88), 3.5 percent; George H.W. Bush (1989-92), 2.3 percent; Bill Clinton (1993-2000), 3.9 percent; and George W. Bush (2001-08), 2.1 percent. In contrast, Mr. Obama from 2009 to 2013 averaged 1.25 percent.

To catch George W. Bush, Mr. Obama would have to average real economic growth of 3.55 percent over each of the next three years. That would mean a 25 percent increase above his best year’s growth — 2.8 percent in 2012. That’s a tall order, considering last year’s growth was just 1.9 percent, and this year’s first quarter came in at a negative 1 percent.

After 5 years in office, the defense that he inherited a poor economy no longer resonates with most Americans. Looking at the earlier presidents, receiving a troubled economy is not unique — FDR and Reagan did — and others, such as George W. Bush with September 11, experienced unavoidable events that hit the economy hard.

Uneventful economies are the exception — only Kennedy-Johnson and Mr. Clinton had economies without a negative economic growth year. The key is how presidents responded to the hits.

"Led the country to energy indepepndence"

The fracking revolution was purely a private sector economic miracle. Obama and Government was and is still extremely hostile to this great development.

Obama demonizes the oil and gas industry which has pulled off this economic miracle.

Energy independence would be even quicker if Obama would stop wasting billions of taxpayer dollars to his cronies in totally failed green energy schemes ....

And open public lands to fracking!!!

Wrong again - the $1.2 trillion projection was prior to the passage of the stimulus bill ... http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/jul/27/barack-obama/obama-says-deficit-was-track-top-1-trillion-year-h/" rel="nofollow">http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/jul/27/barack-obama/obama-says-deficit-was-track-top-1-trillion-year-h/

And if you're referring to TARP, that was Hank Paulson's idea - begging Congress to pass a massive relief bill.  And Bush, when you could find him, supported it.  As did 91 Republicans in the House and 33 in the Senate.  When push came to shove, conservatives didn't eat their own dog food.

Re: W vs Obama - who has the better President?

Wow - the defense of W is completely non-existent.

This recovery maybe be anemic, thanks to the Republican controlled House. But at least there are more jobs in the economy than when Obama took office.  W left office with fewer jobs.

Energy Independence.  Turns out all that oil that was liberated when Saddam was overthrown wasn't needed.  Another false promise by the W administration.

c'mom righties.  Certainly you can point to 1 positive thing from the W's admin.  How about the ridiculously low tax rate for qualified dividends?  Nothing like making life easier for people with trust funds. Who cares if enabling trust fund babies to buy more coke came at the expense of poor kids.

I know, the Medicaid prescription drug benefit. Just because the law prevents Medicaid from negotiating a better price for drugs (which all other insurers can do), it's still a benefit for seniors.  I mean, it wasn't a complete give away to drug companies, although it is ironic that one of W's signature pieces of legislation specifically prevents free market competition .

but then there is that little matter of Bush turning a blind eye to the Chinese manipulating the US dollar so they could basically steal our manufacturing sector.  I guess that was the price Bush had to pay to get the Chinese to sit on their hands in the security council when voting for military action against Iraq.

so is the ranking of Presidents since 1960:  Kennedy, Clinton, LBJ, Obama, Reagan, Carter, Bush, Nixon, W.  Reagan has to be low considering how the righties feel about deficits, Americans dying in the Middle East for no reason, dealing with terrorists, redistribution of wealth from one economic class to another, etc. But we really showed the world how tough we were when we invaded Granada?

For most of Bush's first 7 years, his TVM adjusted deficits were very similar to Clinton's.  It was only the last year that it shot up, coincidently when the Democrats had their first shot at a budget (2009) , which was signed by Obama, not Bush.  Normally you sign it, you own it.  Then he had control and could have turned the ship around in the right direction but he kept spending.  It was after the Republicans took over the House that the spending started to slow.  No thanks to Obama's submitted budgets that couldn't even get 1 vote from a Democrat.  He's no Miracle Man when it comes to budgets and deficits.

Bush got us into a war in Iraq that we didn't need to fight and I don't like the way he used 9/11 as a political punchline . As for Afghanistan I have no problem with him going there.

Of, and ordered the death of Bin Laden.

yes, you forgot that you're living in a complete fantasy land and you have proven that liberalism is in fact a mental disorder.

    [/QUOTE]

Nice try, but the federal fiscal calendar starts in October of the prior year, and the 2009 deficit projection was $1.2 trillion before Obama ever took the oath.

Bush = 200 billion dollar surplus when he took office, 1.2 trillion deficit when he left.

Obama = 1.2 trillion deficit when he took office, $492 billion six years later.

but never mind that $18 TRILLION in debt

In my opinion Obama is the better President than Bush and my reason for thinking that isn't partisan at all it has to be with being reasonable adult . Bush got us into a war in Iraq that we didn't need to fight and I don't like the way he used 9/11 as a political punchline . As for Afghanistan I have no problem with him going there.

Couldn't agree more that Iraq was a war we should NEVER have been involved in. 4,000+ dead American's for NOTHING. Afghanistan we needed to do...Iraq, not so much.

The problem with Afghanistan is that we went from toppling the Taliban using the Northern Alliance with the US providing ari support, to having 100,000 troops.  How did that happen?  Had the W Admin not been obseesed with invading Iraq, we insert the needed troops to capture Bin Laden at Tora Bora and call it a day. m It never becomes this countrt's longest war.

Oddly - no one had one positive thing to say about W.  The righties voted for him twice but don't have a single positive to say about him.  So in essence, in 8 years he didn't do a single positive thing for the country.  Bravo.

How much of that debt is owned by the FED?  And does the portion owned by the FED really considered debt if the government owes it to the Government?  I'd say that since the FED has been buying up a large portion of the budget deficit, that true deficit isn't nearly as big as people think.  The traditional arguments against deficits is that they cause inflation (none so far), it raises interest rates (not yet), and it removes potential investment dollars from the economy, which is less of an issue because the debt is being bought by the FED.
