WaPost: Colbert's fawning toward Hillary was embarassing

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2014/08/06/hillary-clinton-on-colbert-report-embarrassing/" rel="nofollow">http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2014/08/06/hillary-clinton-on-colbert-report-embarrassing/

WaPost media blogger Eric Wemple is no rightwing conservative, but even he has seen enough of the supposed genius faux comedian Colbert's political double standards, after a 'surprise' Hillary appearance on Colbert's show.

"Clinton and Colbert engaged in a name-dropping contest, the annoying transcript of which the Erik Wemple Blog will spare readers. They also ran through a make-believe “hard choice” scenario that Colbert posed to his guest; again, we’ll leave out the specifics. The segment ended with Colbert promoting Clinton’s book: “Buy ‘Hard Choices’ — available in bookstores everywhere there are still bookstores.”

"Colbert runs a comedy show, so he carries no obligation to press Clinton with probing questions as he raises her stature with the precious audience of “The Colbert Report.” Yet the cheap jokes and the host’s fawning approach toward Clinton teamed up for an embarrassing display."

Predictable response: How dare a paid media critic criticize the 'genius' comedian, doesnt he have a sense of humor?

Predictable response: "Colbert hits both sides" (right, though one side gets hit with a sledgehammer, his own side gets tickled with a feather)....

The first step is recognizing the flaws in your argument. You mostly did that, but you could improve your work if you didn't downplay the flaws by exaggerating the response.

The second step is shooting down those responses without setting up a straw man. You failed to do that.

Just another thread whining about a comedian. Funny how the accused BDC libruls never started a threat whining about Dennis Miller.

    Defensive, are we?

Talk about Colbert if you want; just don't pretend a comedian is charged with the duty of providing Fair and Balanced News coverage.

It isn't like you hold your own media to that standard anyway.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....ticked? You really are one confused individual. Miller not being relevant today is not my opinion...it's a fact. What is he on? What movies has he recently been in? What headlines has he recently gotten? When's the last time he did a stand-up tour? BTW....I thought he was one funny b a s t a r d back during his stand-up days. His 'Live in Washington' HBO special from like 1988 was a fcuking scream...loved it.

So, as usual....you have your head up your a55. Kudos for being consistent!

Implicit in your statement is that Colbert is a liberal comedian... refreshing candor, in that most libs implausibly and laughably claim he "hits both sides" and is not a progressive...

Liberal Frank Rich agrees that conservative comedians arent as funny, in a lengthy piece in the New Yorker...again, at least he is realistic that many  comedians, besides trying to be funny, do have a political bent.

Sounds like the wingnuts are waging a war on humor ... they want the PC police on this pronto.

Ya gotta be particularly thinned skinned if ya'll get bent out of shape over a comedian poking fun at your political ideology.

Geepers, lighten up ... you'd think that someone just stole your lunch money.

If you don't like his humor then don't watch his show ... tune into the conservative version of "Comedy Central" ... The Faux News network.

CLC, why are you still lying?

Nobody said Colbert wasn't liberal. Nobody claimed he was perfectly fair and balanced.

Exactly. IMO it really is not about the liberals and the conservatives in this forum. Aside from Miller, nobody can come up with a conservative comedian.

It is not taking a shot at the conservatives. It just seems to be a fact. Somehow, the "funny" got left out of conservatives....at least those who want to make a living with their humor.

This conversation got me thinking!  I actually Googled  the term "conservative comedians" and was surprised at the result - mainly the complete lack of modern day comics who identify as conservative in terms of their shtick.
