'Fox And Friends' Warns Of YMCA Swim Class For Muslim Girls

Fox News is warning viewers about a YMCA swim class for Muslim girls, suggesting that it's a bad sign of the "minority becoming the majority."

A YMCA in St. Paul, Minnesota recently teamed up with the St. Paul Police Department to offer a swim class for Somali-American girls. The class respects the girls' religious beliefs, and Minneapolis Star Tribune recently reported on the need for the program and its success.

Fox News saw it differently. "The minority becoming the majority at one community pool," newsreader Heather Nauert said on Monday's "Fox and Friends." "Sharia law is now changing everything."

"This means during the one hour class, the pool is being shut down," she said. "The men's locker room is being locked and female life guards are being brought in. Similar classes are now starting at towns across the Midwest. We'll keep watching this story for you."

If it were a swimming class for evangelical Christians that shut down the woman's locker room and basically took over the place, you'd writing the article yourself on how evil they were.

Good for the YMCA to accomodate the religious beliefs of these young Muslim women. Would that the Secular Left had some tolerance for Christian religious beliefs.

No doubt if it were a Christian group shutting down the place, the ACLU would line up an athiest for admittance, and a lawsuit would follow.

If some Christian religious leader complained that the swimsuits worn at the YMCA were "immodest", the ridicule from the Secular Left would be quite loud.....

    Re: Warning

This program only started because a few years ago a couple of muslim women would rent out the pool and invite others who wanted to swim in.  The YMCA saw an opportunity to boost membership by making it public program, and now they can collect monthly membership dues from those who participate.  This isn't anything to do with FoxNews nonsense about sharia law, or the ominous sounding "minority becoming the majority" this is about one organization's exploiting an obvious demand for their resources and monetizing that demand and raking some extra money.  This IS capitalism at work.

Its hard to see anything but shameless pandering to bigots in the Fox audience with this non story.

Anyway....good for the Y.  Everyone needs to learn to swim......particularly those that live in a state with ten thousand lakes.

Obviously, fox news has no idea what the ratio of muslims-to-christians is in america...

...else "majority minority" wouldn't be just another dog whistle to the christianists who form part of the base of the conservative movement.

Good thing we have CLC and Hansori to speak for all persons not on the far right.

Seriously, though, where do you get off?

There are countless organizations around the country doing private Christian things, and I don't see any threads by accused libruls complaining about them.

The things said persons complain about is an employer - not even a religious employer like a church - demanding the right to block their employees' insurance from covering contraception (but viagra, that's cool) due to personal religious belief of the employer. Or social conservatives trying to throw up roadblocks to women getting abortions because they think their deity of choice says abortion is a no-no.

See the difference? Of course not. The difference is that in one case, a private organization is offering a service that benefits the religious group. In the other case, the non-religious actor is citing religion to deny a benefit to others.

If the Y wants to offer an evangelicals-only swimming class I couldn't care less. And neither could Fox.

You mean like the Boy Scouts?? Nobody complains about them and their teachings on religion and God and how they had problems dealing with gay kids belonging.

The problem with the program as portrayed is not that they are trying to attract muslims with an all female muslim swimming class. The problem is that they exclude men from the facility to conduct the class. Is the locker room devoted just to the pool or are men that go and work out forced to go home all sweaty and smelly. Not exactly health or hygenic. All for some kooky religious nonsense. Just as dumb as thinking the earth was made in 7 days or eating meat on Friday will send you to hell.

I guess for libruls it is ok to exclude men in deference to some religious nonsense on the part of muslims, yet when it comes to evangelicals libruls are all upset that they are trying to ram their values down our throats.

Why is it ok for one group to shove their religion down our throats but not the other?

Nobody complains about boy scouts excluding gay people? Where have you been for the last decade?

Nevermind that entirely excluding gay people from an organization is rather different than a one hour class at one Y facility on the other side of the country.

Nevermind that they didn't HAVE to allow gay people in. They are a private organization. They chose to after being pressured.

    Discrimination against men?

    THAT is your angle?

You should work for Fox. You and CLC are utterly deranged. No wonder you think that posting a picture of someone making a stupid face is "bigotted". What a hoot.

    Why do you hate men?
