    Washington phantom 'cuts'

    http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/economy-a-budget/174717-when-a-cut-is-not-a-cut
I am not blaming Boehner and McConnell, they did the best they could, a default is in no one's interest.  The only way to fiscal sanity is to throw out the liberals in 2012.
But how the liberals wail about phony 'cuts'...
    Ron Paul:

".....the "cuts" being discussed are illusory, and are not cuts from current amounts being spent, but cuts in projected spending increases.  This is akin to a family "saving" $100,000 in expenses by deciding not to buy a Lamborghini, and instead getting a fully loaded Mercedes, when really their budget dictates that they need to stick with their perfectly serviceable Honda.  But this is the type of math Washington uses to mask the incriminating truth about their unrepentant plundering of the American people. If we simply kept spending at current levels, by their definition of "cuts" that would save nearly $400 billion in the next few years, versus the $25 billion the Budget Control Act claims to "cut".  It would only take us 5 years to "cut" $1 trillion, in Washington math, just by holding the line on spending.  That is hardly austere or catastrophic.

Our outlays are $3.7 trillion and projected to grow every year.  Yet we only have to go back to 2004 for federal outlays of $2.2 trillion, and the government was far from small that year.  If we simply returned to that year's spending levels, which would hardly be austere, we would have a balanced budget right now.  If we held the line on spending, and the economy actually did grow as estimated, the budget would balance on its own by 2015 with no cuts whatsoever.

Its all so confusing.  One minute I hear the cuts are like a 'Satan Sandwich' to social programs, and the next minute its just 'phantom cuts'.

I was wondering when this would finally be brought up, there aren't any cuts occurring just lowering the funding amount each budgetary item will receive from one year to the next.  Dropping a 5% increase to 3% increase and calling it a budget cut.  We just went through it will all the "draconian" budget cuts the Mass statehouse just had to make, yet this fiscal years expenditures are still salted to be higher than the previous.  It's no different here, we're not going to be spending any less just taking a little longer to get there.

Washington is cutting the increase in spending to the bone, to the bone, I tell you.

And you wonder why no one trusts politicians.

    Really.

What do you expect from people who think that discretionary spending is somehow worse for the economic outlook than huge entitlement programs, a bloated military-industrial complex and a rapidly aging population who wants govt's hands "off their medicare"...??

They are "phantom" cuts not only because of the cuts themselves but because both sides will find some way to weasel out of the terms of what they've agreed to.

On the bright side, at least we had the satisfaction of having it "rammed down our throats", in typical right-wing homoerotic parlance....
