If there's an arsonist on the loose in your town, ya don't go around giving everyone a can of gasoline and a lighter.

More proof that in the whacko wingnut world, up is down, left is right and the only way to combat gun violence is more guns.

Yep, freakin brilliant. Ya can't argue with such bass ackwards logic as that.

Ummm, just because you don't pay attention doesn't mean it ain't happening.

Chicago women outraged by gun violence that killed their children joined local members of Congress to announce plans for a Million Mom March in the city on Mother's Day.

The message behind the May 14 march is to push Congress to enact tougher gun laws, specifically licensing and registration for handguns, said Steve Young, Midwest coordinator of the Bell Campaign, a nationwide organization of gun violence victims.

    http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2000-05-01/news/0005260236_1_donna-dees-thomases-gun-violence-gun-industry

A Decade Later, Million Mom March Endures As a Force to Save Lives

WASHINGTON - May 6 - Ten years ago, on Mother's Day 2000, some three-quarters of a million people gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for the largest demonstration in history supporting stricter gun laws.

Painstakingly constructed through word of mouth, basement phone banks and Kinko's copies by a ragtag band of volunteers with almost no organizing experience, the crowd stunningly exceeded expectations.  The event revitalized the national push for common-sense gun laws to protect America's children and gave birth to a broad national network of activists. Satellite events in 73 cities added nearly a quarter of a million more activists to the day's remarkable place in the history of the fight against gun violence.

As the Million Mom March celebrates its 10th anniversary, the event has left in its historical wake a web of activists who remain committed to the struggle against gun violence despite the difficulty of passing federal legislation during the tenure of the Bush Administration. Its leaders have built strong Chapters and local coalitions that have helped to pass strong gun laws on the local and state levels.

It would seem you owe the "gun controlistas" an apology.

They've been "peeping" for quite awhile, it's just your wilful ignorance that doesn't allow you to hear them.

Ya, sorry we aren't able to cover every concievable subject that may or may not fall under the "Politics" tab in these forums.

Funny how when any subjects are brought up that the wingnuts don't want to engage on, they call them a 'distraction'. As during the election cycle when the foot-in-mouth disease afflicting wingnut senate candidates where deemed to be an attempt to 'change the subject'. Or when various laws enacted by wingnut state legislatures restricting a woman's access to healthcare, including abortion services, those too were labeled 'off-topic' because it wasn't something the wingnuts wished to defend or even discuss.

As a matter of fact I distinctly remember one thread in particular that MattyScornedD started during the campaign cycle about the lack of attention paid to gun control, among other things and the wingnuts dismissed it out of hand claiming it wasn't relevent to the message they wanted to focus on, the economy.

So ya, the subject has been broached before, much to the dismay and outright dismissal by the wingnuts.

Correct.  You give them a gun so they can shoot the perosn trying to burn them alive in their house.

NBC's Meet the Press host David Gregory mocked the NRA's Wayne LaPierre for proposing that armed guards be at every school in America. But the NBC host seems to have no problem with armed guards protecting his kids everyday where they attend school in Washington, D.C.

"You proposed armed guards in school. We'll talk about that in some detail in a moment. You confronted the news media. You blamed Hollywood and the gaming industry. But never once did you concede that guns could actually be part of the problem. Is that a meaningful contribution, Mr. LaPierre, or a dodge?," asked Gregory.

Later the host suggested that guns don't prevent violence in schools (he cited the mass shootings at Columbine and Virginia Tech). "But you would concede that, as good as an idea as you think this is, it may not work. Because there have been cases where armed guards have not prevented this kind of massacre, this kind of carnage. I want you would concede that point, wouldn't you?," Gregory pleaded.

The NBC host would go on the rest of the segment to suggest that armed guards might not be effective in preventing mass murders at school. Which is perhaps an interesting theoretical argument.

But when it comes to Gregory's own kids, however, they are secured every school day by armed guards.

According to a scan of the school's online faculty-staff directory, Sidwell Friends, the tony private school of Washington's elite liberals, including the President's kids, has a security department made up of at least 11 people. Many of those are police officers, who are presumably armed.

It's safe to say the school where Gregory sends his kids is a high-security school. It's just odd he'd want it for his kids, but wouldn't be more open to it for others.

I hope you did have some independent knowledge, and weren't going off the comments section to that article - which, funny enough, seems to indicate that conservatives are generally obsessed with going to hated "liberal" media to insult liberals in any comments/forums available. Some kind of complex....

I didn't read them but its funny you should say that in the same thread where the OP calls the NRA "insane."

"Anywhere USA" is liberal-speak for the great unwashed, the commoners.

The Liberal's creed: do as I say, not as I do..

Even before the President sent his kids there, the DC elite sent their kids to a secured safe school, Sidwell Friends....secured by those with, gulp,  guns. While 'anywhere usa' poor in DC suffered from unsafe schools.

Just as David Gregory can opine on NBC News and display an illegal gun clip,  from the safety of NBC News headquarters, patrolled by armed guards.

You were here claiming that "gun control" is pointless because people got shot in Chicago.

That's not exactly what I said but do go on.

The other point is, you say that conservatives have some kind of complex about insulting liberals but you completely ignore the fact that most of the liberal posters here would rather make ad hominem attacks rather than rationally discuss the issue at hand. I'm just calling out the irony here...

If there is an arsonist around town, do the police go after him unarmed? Do we ban gasoline or gas cans? Do we blame anyone other than the arsonist? DOes Obama employ armed security? Does the school that Obama's kids go to employ armed guards.  Of course. Logic escapes you.

Hey ya freakin moron, are you really that stupid?

That's right THE POLICE go after suspects, trained in the proper use of weapons. They don't arm every person in the town with an assault weapon and shoot-on-sight orders for anyone carrying a gas can.

Geepers, you freakin wingnuts are ridiculous.

There was a mass-murder of 26 innocent people with an assault weapon and you fvcking moron's response to it is to put more weapons into circulation so that more people have access to the very same weapons that started this whole problem.

Hey numbnuts, I thought you nose-to-rectum types were supposed to defend those people who spend their own money to send a kid to a private school?

What, that doesn't apply to everyone?

Ya, that's what I would expect from you pieceofshit hypocrits.

The problem is our mental health system.

The decision to clear out the state mental institutions 30 years ago has lead to mentally unstable people living amongst us.  These are the ones who kill.  The latest lunatic was the upper NY state Spengler POC who did what he did best and killed people, his last effort was to kill his sister, torch the family home and then ambush responding fire fighters.

It's the insane people in our midst that are the problem.

Insane person with out gun: potentially dangerous.  Insane person with gun: potentially deadly.  Insane person with assault weapon: potentially deadly many times over.  Both issues are problems (especially when combined) and conservatives have no solutions for either.

It's been reported that Lanza was going down hill for the past few months and his mother was afraid of him.  Well she should have done something about it.  The latest shooting of the responding fireman was also a tied to an exceeeding irrational person who family members were afraid of.  If family members are affraid of an individual said individual should be institutionalized; but that doesn't happen anymore.
