Re: Wisconsin defunds Planned Parenthood - no more tax dollars

Tax dollars cannot be used for abortions. It's against the law. So why defund planned parenthood which does a lot of other things besides abortions. Health care, birth control disease prevention cancer screenings. This is what people are angry about.

Re: Wisconsin defunds Planned Parenthood - no more tax dollars

    "Chinese wall"? Try blatant lying.

    WashTimes:

In 2011, government subsidies to Planned Parenthood reached an all-time high, with the abortion provider receiving a whopping $542 million in taxpayer funding — all while ending a record number of lives — 333,964.

While Planned Parenthood is performing a record number of abortions, their cancer screenings have dropped by 29 percent, and contraceptive services by 12 percent over the past three years. The number of mammograms provided by Planned Parenthood appearing on the annual report is also worth noting: zero.

Planned Parenthood’s services for pregnant women, make up 92 percent of the organization’s pregnancy services. Prenatal care and adoption referrals accounted for only 7 percent (28,674) and 0.6 percent (2,300), respectively. Put another way, 9 out of 10 pregnant women who walk into Planned Parenthood leave having undergone an abortion. For every adoption referral, Planned Parenthood performed 145 abortions. Does that sound like much of a choice?

Abortion remains Planned Parenthood’s source of clinic revenue. That’s why it is no surprise that this profit-driven business chose to up the ante this year, mandating that all of its affiliates must provide abortions beginning this month. This mandate has already prompted several clinics that do not wish to perform abortions to break off and go independent.

Requiring that all of its affiliates provide abortions is the ultimate evidence that Planned Parenthood’s chief concern is making money off abortion — not the health of vulnerable women and girls.

Mr. Obama has gone far out of his way to ensure taxpayer funding makes up 45 percent of Planned Parenthood’s annual revenue.

Planned Parenthood certainly went far out of their way to return the favor, spending a record $15 million during the last election cycle to return their biggest ally to power, and ensuring billions more in taxpayer dollars over the next four years.

Tell us again how taxpayer money is not being used to fund abortion.

But not only are people mad, they are mad at republicans for doing that which is already federal law

Well I can't speak for them, but I'm willing to bet they weren't happy with federal law either, however, when a state that does provide funding cuts it...that state becomes the immediate target.

Federal law would not have mattered so much to those people as long as the state in question was providing funding.

I agree. I would wager that the argument is framed for political purposes to create a specific even villian even though both parties have the practice at some level in most instances as well.

CLC is cherry-picking data again to suit his ideology

Abortions average around 3% of the total number of services Planned Parenthood provides in a given year.

Conservatives hate PP because the vast majority of people they serve are either low-income or poverty-level.  And they're hypocrites because they don't want those fetuses, either.

They have been trying to put them out of business and outlaw abortion for over 30 years, so why should they stop now?  They held the gun that John Salvi used.

Greg's feeble attempt to turn tables notwithstanding....

That's one explanation.  If you have another that makes sense, then lay it out.  Else, why would they jeopardize so many worthy health services over a paltry percentage of abortion services...?

Planned Parenthood avoided the Hyde Amend by an accounting tactic called the Chinese Wall.

They kept private donations seperate from federal money through bookkeeping.

3% , really? Now that is seriously cherry picking data...

Planned Parenthood is an abortion mill, pure and simple.

What does that mean, "3% of total number of services".. A meaningless laundry list of "services" supposedly provided.......is talking on the phone a 'service"? Filling out a form ?  "Referrals" ? 'Referrals' is a useless service, you can find what you are looking for using Google...

No doubt "mammograms" is on the "total number of services", even though they provided zero mammograms...

Those who are anti abortion see this as a life is sacred issue.  Apparently you don't see it that way, but, you are very jaded and uncaring if you actually think that these very people who cherish life actually hate poor people and minorities.  I don't think you actually think what you say, I think it is just a cheap shot you throw out there.  That's just juvinile on your part to suggest that they are uncaring.  Not cool.

    How about some math?

If abortion represents 3% of the services done, and PP performed 333,900 abortions last year, then the 97% represents @33,000,000 services offered.  Yet Planned Parenthood indicates that only 1,800,000 people took advantage of any PP service.  So, either everyone who stops by used FIFTEEN planned parenthood services, or the numbers are BS.

Or put another way, 20% of the people who came to planned parenthood had an abortion, buty magically, it accounts for only 3% of the services.

The 3% doesn't pass the smell test.

Another could be PP's employees performong illegal activities ; telling potential minors where/how to get illegal abortions, etc.

whether 1 case or 1000 it's all about perception and PP has allowed the perception to be in many states that they are a crooked organization.

Moving the goalposts again...just like the rest of the crooked anti-choice movement trying to legislate (big government!) every sperm and egg cell.

86% of services are either contraceptive-, STD-, or cancer-related.  Whether some or all of those are provided to the same person is quite beside the point.

Asking for financial clarification for entities receiving taxpayer money where services, expenses, cost are not explained in detail; whether its bonuses to executives, resort team building execizes or specifics on each service provided is not only prudent for the govts and citizens to ask but a responsibility when they are receiving taxpayer funds!!

Not moving the goalposts, simply showing the 3% number is BS.  Simple math:

1.8 million visitors, 334,000 abortions, or about 20%

Getting treated for STD's FIFTEEN times in the same visit is certainly trouble.
