In 2000, the last year that we had a balanced budget, the DoD budget was around $300B. In the 13 years since, we've added about $450B to the DoD budget. Of that about $100B is current spending for the wars, meaning that the baseline budget of the DoD has more than doubled to $650B in 13 years.
Wake me when the wingnuts are serious about addressing waste. -

You wont wake up, because you, if like most liberals, are a recipient of the government's largesse yourself. You are asleep, dreaming that federal spending money comes from trees...In the past 20 years, federal outlays have grown 71 percent faster than inflation. The average American household’s share of this spending is $29,691, roughly two-thirds of median household income. This relentless growth is projected to continue, pushing total government outlays to $5.5 trillion a decade from now, and to about 36 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the next 25 years.
Federal entitlements are driving this spending growth, having increased from less than half of total federal outlays just 20 years ago to nearly 62 percent in 2012. Three major programs—Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security—dominate in size and growth, soaking up about 44 percent of the budget. All three programs are growing faster than inflation, and—when joined with $1.7 trillion in new Obamacare spending—will drain about 18.5 percent of the nation’s total economic output by mid-century. Because that is about the historical annual average of total federal tax revenue, it means all other government programs—national defense, veterans health care, transportation, federal law enforcement, and others—would effectively have to be financed on borrowed money.
Other entitlements continue growing as well. Anti-poverty programs have surged by 49 percent in just the past decade, even after adjusting for inflation. Spending for food stamps alone has more than tripled since 2002. Health programs, including Medicaid, have increased by 38 percent, and housing assistance by 48 percent....

Heh, heh, heh... still relying on the 'opinion-as-fact' baloney I see.
WHAT.. no defense for his newest boondoggle? Is this the kind of increased spend the Messiah wants?
Iknow Obama NEVER worked a day in his life but shouldn't he have SOME sense of accountability for the billions he's pi55ing away ?
Why would I defend a program created by the wingnuts?
Airborne' s binky...."Bush did it"

Funny how the wingnuts controlled Congress for 16 of the 20 yrs and yet you're laughably ignoring that fact.

LOL. Clinton balanced the budget and the first GOP congress in 40 years had nothing to do with it.
Hilarious

The wingnuts passed the LARGEST, UNFUNDED expansion of these social programs since their inception, with Medicare Part D, and yet that fact is noticeably absent from your screed.
Reality stings, eh barbie?
Both parties are at fault for the massive deficit fire that is almost literally burning down the United States. The moonbat solution is to point out George Bush didnt put out the fire 5 years ago, and bring in more gasoline tankers to throw on the fire, so they can roast their marshmellows on it. -

No problem addressing waste, in the DoD or elsewhere.let's start with eliminating all programs that the government does not have the constitutional right to fund. That would eliminate, oh, every social program, every business investment by government.
That ought to trim about 2 trillion off the annual budget. Now, all of a sudden, we an balance the budget. Sweet!
