You know the GOP has gone completely wheels-off when Bob Dole (R-Bob Dole) says they should be "Closed for Repairs", and declares that Saint Reagan would have no place in today's Republican Party, and says it all on Fox News

He's wrong, of course. Reagan, who was opposed by the establishment republicans of his day, contnues to be an inspiration for non-establishment liberty minded tea-party patriots.

Bob Dole is an American hero, but he is the epitome of accomodating Establishment GOP centrists. We are continuously told we have to nominate moderates to win the Presdiency. Yet Dole, McCain and Romney all lost their bids, while real conservatives win: Reagan in reality won three terms, and George W Bush won 2 terms...

Sorry, Bob Dole, you are wrong...you are the NY Times version of a Republican. Easy to beat.

So, ACC, you're saying that you like Reagan and all of the Republicans that you quoted?

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: “Ronald Reagan would have a very difficult, if not impossible time being nominated in this atmosphere of the Republican Party.”

Why do you cling so bitterly to your view of the Republican party?  Few if any conservatives here give a hoot about the Repulbican party.

The nerve of people not spending every minute on BDC during Memorial Day weekend. I mean...it's not like people go away, go to parties, etc. People should be hunkered down in their mom's basement posting all weekend like Airborne.

It's ironic that now you disparage Reagan as a liberal when he was so completely demonized as a far right-wing nut conservative when he was president. Shows yet again the lack of intellectual consistency that is todays's left.

Right. That explains why they always attack the D and defend the R. Because they don't give a hoot.

The Republican party tends to be slightly less onerous and is slightly less corrupted than the Democrats. But not by much.

For example: John Freakin McCain, mainstay of the Republican establishment, is now actively lobbying to support the Syrian "resistance" which includes the strong presence of Al Qeada. Have we lost our minds?

I believe he intended to meet with one general Idris, whose organization is not one of the radical groups with potential Al Queda ties.

Yes, General Idris, who is currently allied with Al Queda. Let's sit out this one for a change and let the Russians suffer the consequences of supporting their boy.

    In response to A_Concerned_Citizen's comment:

In a 2003 piece for the conservative Weekly Standard entitled “Reagan’s Liberal Legacy”, Joshua Green argued that Reagan did more to expand the liberal agenda than the conservative program. After all, Reagan grew the federal deficit more than all other presidents since George Washington combined. He didn’t gut federal agencies like he promised, he created new departments like the enormous and expensive Department of Veterans Affairs!

After trying (and failing) to disembowel Social Security, Reagan did an dramatic about-face and bailed out the program to the tune of $165 billion and made Social Security taxes more progressive, forcing upper-income Americans to shoulder more of the burden than their poor counterparts.

Reagan raised taxes 11 times! He passed the largest tax increase since World War II and introduced hefty new corporate taxes.

    Wow!

Regean was a liberal.  Who knew.
