    How is Everyone?

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing.    I'm especially wondering about you missliliy....you must be getting close.  Hope you are feeling well.

As for me, just back from an ultrasound.   I had to see a specialist because since the 18 week u/s the baby's kidneys are measuring a little bigger than normal.  I guess it's not much to worry about but they keep their eyes on it and if anything needs to be done it can be after the baby is born and it's not a huge deal.   My friend had the same thing with her son and he's fine so I'm not too worried.  She did say this is more more common in boys so.....maybe an indicator as to what we're having!!    I also found out at this u/s that the baby is breech.  I think he or she must have just moved this week and it's funny because I was looking at and feeling my belly this morning thinking "hmmm, I think this soft spot is the bum and it's below the head!".    So we have a little over eight weeks to go so there is definitely time for a turn around.   Also found out the baby is measuring a little small size wise.   The doctor told me I need to boost my calorie intake and should drink something like Boost or Ensure but I'm going for Carnation Instant Breakfast instead...alittle better tasting.    I also have to go for weekly u/s now to keep an eye on everything.   So we have a lot going on!!   Poor DH, he is still working like crazy getting our house ready and worrying about me and baby.   I am out of school now and decided not to teach summer school, so I am glad to have time off, esp. now that I'll have so many DA.   I have been super tired lately and began getting swollen ankles this week so I am working to take care of myself and baby!

    Happy,

I know what you mean about the DAs!  I am at 34 weeks and need to go for weekly u/s and NSTs because I have gestational diabetes.  Plus, I need to go to MFM every other week for an U/S and a endocrinologist for the diatabetes.  It hasn't been easy managing the all the insulin shots and glucose testing.  I am actually measuring big for my due date and that is because I have too much fluid, which is caused by the GD.  So, my doctor told me today that I could deliver before 39 weeks if the baby gets too big.  But other than that, I've been feeling good.  I just get tired all the time and have some major swelling in the my ankles at the end of the day!

    Re: How is Everyone?

I was admitted to MGH two weeks ago due to preterm labor detected at 26 1/2 weeks.  Based on their examinations I was already 3 cm dilated and 100 effaced.  After two week of hospital bedrest and no changes, they agreed to send me home on bedrest and now hopefully I will get to at least 34 weeks (or better 37 weeks) so I can deliver at my hospital with my doctor.  So it will be a very long summer.....

Wow - it's been tough on everyone lately.  I've stopped working now that i'm 34 weeks.  Thank heavens because now I can sleep in and take an afternoon nap!
I'm going for appts. every week these days too.  U/S to check on the twins growth and non-stress tests to monitor heartbeats etc.
Other than being really tired, having to get up to pee ALL THE TIME, hemmorroids (sorry TMI) and feeling nauseus in the morning (OB says it's hormones) I'm doing fine. :)
Doctor says that if I don't go into labor she'll deliver me at week 38 - so only 4 to go!

    Re: How is Everyone?

jag - isn't that swelling just oh so sexy!!??    I never noticed other people ankles so much 'til I didn't have any of my own.   It's gotten better since I stopped working.

grif - so sorry to hear about your bedrest.   Keep the computer close and we'll keep you entertained this summer.  And just think....if the weather stays like this you won't be missing much anyway!!

misslily - funny, I have been feeling slightly nauseus in the mornings again too.   It's been like first trimester all over again...waking up in the night hungry too.    And the tiredness is awful, I can't imagine how you're doing it with two in there.   I slept in this morning hoping to feel refreshed but I felt like I could have slept another 10 hours when I woke up.

My parents and brother came over today to help me pack the apt while DH works at the house.   My mom was hysterical.....she did not want me doing anything.   Every time I moved or bent over she was like...take it easy, go sit down, don't do anything!!!    And yesterday we went to Lowes to get Rubermaid containers and she would not let me touch anything - she was wheeling the cart filled with containers with one hand while carrying another container with her other hand.  When we were done she insisted I get a huge frappe too!!  Gotta love dear old mom.  :)

Jag/Lily - so excited that you are in the home stretch~!

Tomorrow I hit 28 weeks, I have the glucose test & then in the afternoon I have an u/s at the hospital to check out that the baby is growing well & that there are still no signs of down's.

I had a couple days last week where the baby didnt seem to be moving as much, but she was back in full swing this weekend which made me happy.

As much as I enjoy being pregnant now, I look forward to having my body back and being able to move around normally & exercise again.

    Re: How is Everyone?

It's good to hear updates from everyone, though I have to admit that I am not happy to hear about the nausea returning for lily and happy. After the first trimester I had, I dread that!

As for me, I had my glucose test on Thursday. The drink was nowhere near as bad as I imagined it to be. I am hoping to get the results sometime today. My OB says that I am measuring a bit small, which is understandable since I am very small to begin with. After my next appointment, I start appointments every two weeks. I just can't believe how quickly things are moving along!

We had a nice "baby-centric" weekend. We cooked out with some friends on Saturday. There were nine kids all under the age of 5 at the party, so we got a preview of life to come! Our very sweet friends surprised us with baby presents, all tested and recommended from their experiences. Yesterday we visited my dad and let him know that we decided to name the baby after him. He was really touched and excited. We also got to see my cousin for dinner and asked her to be the baby's godmother. She was super excited. Everything seems to be falling into place. :)

DH and are are heading to LA this week, probably our last big trip for a while. I am looking forward to some southern California sun. :) Take care, everyone!

I am 17 weeks this week...I have been feeling pretty good except my tailbone has bothered me since I drive an hour to work.  I am pretty excited though because Friday I will get to find out what we are having!  I can't wait!

    Re: How is Everyone?

June08: You and I are in lock-step.  I'll be 17 weeks tomorrow, and we have an ultrasound tomorrow morning where we should find out what we're having.  I'm curious - are you planning to tell people?  What have the rest of you done?  I'm not sure I can keep the secret for another 5 months but I know a lot of people like to wait and find out when the baby is born.  Also, a woman told me recently that she regretted telling people that she was having a girl, because she was suddenly inundated with pink things, and she doesn't really like pink.  I guess that's going to happen either way, though (and I figure you should be grateful for whatever anyone wants to give you!).  Tough call, though.  We still haven't decided...

My biggest issue these days is continuing round-ligament pain (when I cough I have to hold onto my stomach or the pain is excrutiating!).  My hips also still really bother me when I sleep (in spite of both the memory foam mattress on our bed, and using a body pillow).  I'm definitely feeling more energy these days, though, which is good because I'm literally counting down my pregnancy in terms of "weekends to get things done around our house before baby arrives"!

Oh, just love the swelling!  I have some cute maternity dresses that I don't want to wear to work because I don't everyone to see my "elephant" ankles and feet by the end of the day.  Some days it so back that I can't even move my toes!

I'm just glad to be in the home stress, though I really don't have much to complain about except the GD, but that is only because of the insulin and blood tests I have to do 4-6 times a day.  I'm just dying for a bagel at this point!

    Re: How is Everyone?

I'm the first in my local circle of friends to have a baby - its sooo nice to hear how everyone is doing!

I'm 20 weeks now and am getting bigger by the day, literally!
I had to bust out the budda band for my jeans this weekend - now if only they made those things for thighs too!

We found out the sex two weeks ago.  My husband said he didn't care what it was, but you should have seen his face when they said it was a boy!!  I was always the shopper, and when he saw a little one-sie with a guitar on it, he was like - ooooh, we HAVE to get this.  Finally maybe he understands.  :)

The nurse who did the U/S was such a grouch though - when I asked if they did 4D, she snapped - "we don't do it for entertainment purposes"
Was that a stupid question?  Or was she just being pissy?

He was faced down and inward though, so they couldn't get the proper view of the heart - so we get to go back on Wednesday.
He's kicking like crazy now, so I'm excited to see my little guy again.

Beyond that, we're building a house in Maine and moving in on October 1st - hopefully!! I'm due on November 4th so I'm stressing like crazy about logistics.  My current insurance doesn't cover doctors in ME or NH - so I not only have to change insurance, but doctors - move in, docorate, paint - one month before I'm due.  Oy!

kaydo - I was going to ask you about your memory foam and your hips. Mine have been better.

My biggest complaint is this awful knot I have in my right shoulder that is getting really uncomfortable.   It hurts up through my neck and into my right ear.   My upper back and shoulders have been so tight and no matter how many stretches I do it doesn't seem to help.   I think it might be time for a massage.   I was just using the heating pad but is that okay??    I also think I might need to take some Tylenol, but I hate doing that. I have tried to avoid taking anything this whole pregnancy.   I definitely see now why people are like "ok, get this kid outta me" toward the end.   I guess we should be grateful that we haven't had super hot weather!!   At least we have that going for us!

Oh yeah - the swelling.  My feet are so big I had to buy nike beach shoes with velcro so I can adjust them!

Sorry to warn you about the nausea Jag - I'm not enjoying it at all.  It's kinda like the 1st trimester - certain smells set me off - like DH's coffee.  It' seems to pass as the morning wears on, and I haven't actually been sick (thank heavens).

Is anyone itchy beyond belief???  I'm 27 weeks and my belly is so itchy I can't even stand it! I'm going to ask if there's anything I can do at my appointment this week, but I don't know if I can take 13 more weeks of clawing my skin off because it's so itchy.

Happy, you should go for a prenatal massage!  You will feel so much better and hopefully they can get those knots out!  You need a little pampering during your pregnancy!

Oh now THOSE sound sexy!!  :)

Happy: I think the memory foam HELPS my hips, but they still hurt, especially if I sleep really deep and don't move during the night.  I slept on one side practically all night recently and when I woke up, my hip was in that no-man's zone between excrutiating pain & basically numb.  Ugh.  DH and I are trying to plan a few long weekend "pre-baby romantic getaways" this summer and I seriously think we'll have to keep them to driving destinations, so we can bring the memory foam topper!

Semi-related: our first getaway will be to Ogunquit so we can splurge on a meal at this restaurant:

We planned a whole weekend trip around eating there once, I got the flu, and we had to cancel so it's high on our list of pre-baby priorities.  And hey, at least we won't be spending money on wine!

Trigirl - have you tried any lotions??  I "lube" up everyday immediately after getting out of the shower because I usually get really dry skin.  I haven't been itchy.   I have also been using anti-stretch mark cream on my belly so I'm not sure if that's helping keep the itch at bay.   It has all kinds of vitamins and minerals that are good for pregnant skin (alledgelly).

jessica - sorry your nurse was a grouch.   I never quite know what to do in an u/s because it's something sooooo special to us and of course we want to ask questions (I always want to know what everything is) but I feel like it's such a bother to them because it's so routine to them.

Hi Happy- I use Cocoa Butter every day and it doesn't appear to be helping all that much. I think I might have PUPPPS (Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy) because it's kind of a rash in and around my over abundance of stretch marks. Of course, that's just a googling based self-diagnosis, but I'm going to talk to my midwife about it on Thursday. I guess they can prescribe something/recommend a course of action if that's what it is.

haha, Kaydo...i think I have MissLily's shoes beat on the hotness factor with my rash...

Jessica - You've been to Arrows?!  Do tell!  DH and I are total foodies and have wanted to go for years.  Our plan is to stay at the Kennebunk Inn for the weekend (nice place, not fancy, but they have pet-friendly rooms so we can bring our dog), eat at their seemingly-great restaurant on the Friday night, and hit Arrows on Saturday.  We're just trying to nail down which weekend.  I can't WAIT.

I grew up in Ogunquit, so we try to go at least once a year.  Actually, now that they have the $39 Bistro Nights - we go more!  Yay!
I hate duck, and after I went there and had a taste of my Mom's, I love duck.

You'll love being there pregnant because everything is so fresh and natural.  And they keep coming around with their homemade bread basket - which isn't fair because there are so many different kinds, you feel like you need to try everything!

Make sure to arrive a little early and take a walk through their gardens - its soooo romantic!  The staff will do absolutely anything for you too.  When you make your reservation, tell them its a special occasion - they always try to do something special.

Ooo, now I'm even more excited!  I noticed the Friday Bistro Menu, so we thought about doing that but it looks like it's a set menu (not a choice of 3 like some places do - are we assuming right?) so I think we'll stick with the Saturday to have more options.  (We did the Sunday prix fixe menu at Mistral a few months ago, though, and it was fabulous.)

Hmmm, does "one last pre-baby indulgance" count as a special occasion??  When we were going to go the first time, it actually was a special occasion (DH had just been nominated for a Grammy Award - for those of you who were on the weddings board at the time, I guess I've just "outed" my weddings board identity!) but I'm sure we can come up with some equally special reason.  :)

I was on the wedding boards too but didn't post much compared to others - I was too scared half the time that what I said would be ripped to shreds!    I was using the same name when I came over to these boards but I switched it after our BFP because I, have to admit, I got pg after one month of TTC and I felt terrible posting our good news when so many people on the TTC boards are trying so hard.    It just didn't seem fair.

Ha!  Yes, that was me.  To be honest, I'm racking my brain and I can't even remember what my weddings board username was.  Wow, that's sad.  But yes, I'm the bride who got her dress at JCrew, got married at a little art gallery, and got to attend the Grammys (have gone the past 2 years actually; my husband won an award last year, was nominated again this year but didn't win).

Hmmm, about the Bistro menu thing... that actually makes Friday more appealing, if you can still order off the menu.  I'm going to call this week and see about reservations.

    Thanks!
