Thank you all for the well wishes! :) It's been a quick 4 days! Here's the birth story for you, not at all what I was expecting for a 1st baby. I was due the 20th and delivered on the 18th, I really thought I'd go at least a week late! No signs of labor and I was feeling pretty good the last few weeks.
I woke on the 18th around 6am with mild cramping that started to come and go pretty regularly. At that point I was still wondering if I was even in labor. DH started to time the contractions with the online tool and they were all over the place 6 min or 5 min apart then 7, nothing consistent. I started packing my bag at that point because I was pretty sure they were contractions and today could be the day! In a few hours it was quite clear that they were indeed contractions, I called my MW around 9:30 and told her that they were about 4 min apart for 1 hr and she said sounds like I'm not drinking enough fluids. So I started drinking a lot more, and it didn't help. By 1:00, they started getting pretty regular around 3.5 min apart and occurring about every minute. (Uh So much for the 5 min apart for a minute rule, I was still at home!) DH had to run to drop the dog off at daycare, and by the time he got back they were really painful, I couldn't talk through them... He called the MW and she asked to talk to me and when he said "yah, no she can't even talk to me" she said we should leave. Seeming it was my first baby I had no idea what to expect, but I knew that early labor was usually not like this and you could go about your day. Even the MW thought that there was no way I could be this far into labor.
So we headed into the hospital 1/2 car ride, worst ride of my LIFE let me tell you, it was not fun. Sitting down and contracting is the worst. We got the hospital at 2pm and was brought right to a room to check my progress. The nurse said, oh just a little cervix left, you're going to have this baby soon. I said, a little cervix, what do you mean?? She said you're an 8! I was totally shocked, I figured i'd be around a 3-4. So I was brought to a l&d room and got in the tub right away to try to relax a bit (riiight, relax?) an hour or so in the tub and then I got out to push! I got out of the tub around 4, and I delivered at 4:16. How's that for a quick birth? It was quick, but not painless let me tell you. I wanted to go natural from the beginning and it was not a hard thing to do since I was already 8cm. when I arrived and an epidural may not have been an option anyway!
I can't believe he's already here! Time to go hang out with him now, he's making his getting ready to cry squeaks.
