December 2012 TTC

    Re: December 2012 TTC

Sally--The main thing I'd add is to talk to your doctor about any medications you take regularly (including over the counter ones), and ask about safety while TTC.  I stopped taking NSAIDs during the 2ww on the recommendation of my doctor, but your mileage may vary.

For my own paranoid sanity, I also reduced my alcohol consumption during the 2ww (especially the last week) to not exceed 1/2 a drink, and stuck to 1 caffeinated beverage per day.  Other people say these sort of restrictions make them crazy; I think they kept me sane.  ALF summed it up best above.

I didn't reduce sweets, but I already eat pretty healthy so didn't feel the need to make any further changes to my diet.

WPP--hooray for triggering!  I've got my fingers crossed for you this cycle!

Sally, I cut out all alcohol and caffeine the first 3 months of trying... then got sick of the strict restrictions during the 2ww and went back to my old ways (although made sure not to have more than 2-3 drinks at one sitting which for me is more than plenty anyways).  Of course once we started down the ivf path that changed.  After all the time and effort invested into each ivf cycle didn't want to take any chances.  So again I cut everything out.

Funny thing is since about a week after my BFP I haven't missed it at all... in fact there is nothing I find more revolting right now than a cup of coffee or smell of a glass of wine.

You guys are all right! :)

I'm doing round 2 of IVF and the accupuncturist said to not have caffeine or alcohol or processed foods...and to eat healthily, etc. The RE seems to be more relaxed about all this so it's hard to know who's "right".

I guess I'll just try to be more healthy but not kill myself if I fall off the wagon (which is more than likely!).

    Re: December 2012 TTC

Hey Sally. I don't think you'd be doing anything "wrong" by having drinks with friends or a morning cup of coffee. A cup of coffee a day is supposed to be safe during pregnancy, so why not TTC? That said, I'm a total crazy person and I went gangbusters over this whole TTC thing.

I went to acupuncture for 4ish months (I wasn't ovulating and heard that was supposed to help. It didn't, but I still loved going.) I also bought a juicer and I juice about 20 lbs of veggies per week (see above re: crazy person). I rarely drink pop and don't like coffee, but I'll have an occasional glass of wine if we go out to dinner or something. I stopped drinking dairy milk and cut back on dairy in general; now I drink coconut milk. It's delicious! I also started eating superfoods like goji berries, cacao nibs, and chia seeds.

Does all of this help? I have no idea. But I feel good, I have more energy, clearer skin, and noticed my hair and nails are thicker and grow faster now. I just want to try being healthier in general, and I hope it'll have a positive impact on TTC.

Other crazy bananas things I've done: a friend gave me a poster of this fertility god and you're supposed to hang it above your bed and say hi to him every day. I do this when DH isn't around to judge me, lol.... Also, after BD-ing, I try to elevate my hips. Why? I don't know. I saw it in The Big Lebowski, and as we all know, everything in movies is real. :)

So today I've had this weird lower right abdominal pain. Can a follicle...I don't know...burst or something? It's not unbearable but definitely not comfortable. Has anyone else had this? Could it be related to clomid or the trigger shot?

Follicles burst to let the egg out.  Some women feel it regularly, more never are aware, and others feel it once in a great while.

Sally, there is no right or wrong only interpretation of research data.  Some are more conservative with those interpretations than others.

I had my first ultrasound and blood work this morning. I have to back again on Thursday for more of the same. I only had two follicles over 12 cm, the rest weren't there.  The nurse I spoke to sounded super upbeat, but I'm not sure I'm on board her happy train just yet.

    Good luck KMMZ!

I go for my day 3 workup tomorrow.  I am hoping that the results show that not much has changed since we went this route 2.5 years ago.  I keep worrying that she is going to tell us things don't qualify and we don't really have any options.

Good luck wed and KMMZ! It sounds like those two follicles have a chance of becoming mature. Are you doing to the trigger too?

I go in for my preg blood test next Thurs. Obviously, I'm making myself crazy waiting for that. I'm sure I've invented psychosomatic symptoms. DH is a trooper and trying to keep me grounded. The Internet, of course, is my nemesis.

Good luck WPP.  I talked myself into symptoms every month.  I'll be honest, I still do.  I actually just wasted money on a pg test because I let it get in my head that I might be pg again even though I'm on the pill.  Yup this TTC thing, even when you're not TTC, can consume you!

When I really wanted to get pg, I was online looking up the stats for every symptom of PMS with respect to women who turned out to be pg and I wasted $$$ on pg tests.  now, I automatically think, "ugh, here it comes," and nothing else crosses my mind.  Same symptoms, different response.  I guess I don't want to get pg anymore for real if you go by that gut level change.

WPP - not yet.  I waiver and some days really want to start TTC right now but I know that we have a crazy year coming up and we both think it would be best if we waited until next fall.  We have 5 weddings this summer, I'm in 2 and DH in 1.  With the cost of the weddings and having DS it's really best if we wait.  So next fall is the plan which if everything works out will put our kids between 2 and 2.5 years apart which I think is just perfect!

I'll be thinking of you on Thursday, WPP.  I hope you get wonderful news.

Merry Christmas ladies and here's to a wonderful, positive 2013!

    Re: December 2012 TTC

Hi Ladies. I'm back from the void. I needed some time to rest and to think. We just decided we'll give the natural route one more try. If I wasn't PG or if we had another MC by the time of my birthday (April), we'd go the fertility route for sure. I'm not getting any younger!

So what to my wondering eye should appear this morning but a BFP!

I was not expecting it, and I'm super nervous. But my fingers are crossed, and I feel ready for whatever happens.

I ran and got a blood test today at the dr. This time we're going to go through a maternal/fetal medicine specialist until we get to 12 weeks. I just need confirmation and then I can get a referral from my dr. When we had all the genetic testing done, the specialist said when we got pg again, they could do earlier ultrasounds for us and just generally keep on top of it more than my regular OB did. I hope that will give me some peace of mind.

I'm glad to see others on here are making progress as well, and some have jumped to the preg boards. Good luck ladies! And Happy New Year to all.

Congrats, Hib! Sending stickiness your way.

My test came back negative, which I figured would happen when I woke up with AF this morning. I'm glad that I waited until after my parents flew home because I really didn't want to answer questions about why I was going to the doctor.

I go for my baseline u/s tomorrow and then hopefully start clomid again on Sat. We'll do this last round of clomid and move to something else if that doesn't work.

WPP - sorry about the BFN.  Not sure it will help but can you try taking Mucinex with this round of Clomid?  It's probably total coincidence but I got pg the month that I took Mucinex.  Best of luck with your upcoming cycle.

Yeah, I was thinking about the mucinex because I remember other people having good luck with it. Which kind was it? And which cycle days did you take it?

They said I have a tiny cyst but can still do clomid. This will be round 3 and I have a feeling that I'll have another, larger cyst if this one doesn't work. I'm going to ask my doctor to try something else if this one doesn't do it.

    Re: December 2012 TTC

WPP - I used the generic brand of Mucinex from KMart but it was the normal kind, not the Mucinex DM.  I was never very good at figuring out when I ovulated and my cycles were fairly long so I started taking it around Day 5-6 and I took it all the way through Day 18-20.  I think where as you'll have more knowledge of when you're ovulating you probably don't need to take it as long.  I followed the directions on the box; however, I didn't take it overnight.  I figured waking myself up every three hours would probably just stress me out unnecessarily.  Good luck!

WPP--I'm sorry the last cycle was a bust! Frustrating.  I hope the next month brings good things, and I'm glad to hear that there will be a new plan if not.

Hib--congratulations & I'll send you lots of sticky thoughts!
