Kar, my sister has Addison's Disease, it's when the adrenal glands start to fail and don't produce enough hormones like cortisol.  She's been struggling with her weight fluctuating from scary thin to slightly overweight.  Her doctors just can't seem to find the right balance with her medicine so she's been all over the place.  Is your mother going through something similar?

    Re: June TTC

Well, sort of, but she's overweight and no matter what she does she keeps gaining.  Her doctor is her SIL, a chiropractor, nutritionist, and holistic endicrine system specialist.  And, my mom is following every instruction to the letter regarding everything she puts in her mouth and exercise for 2 years and has GAINED 10 pounds while trying to lose about 50.  Frustrating doesn't describe the futile effort.  But, they just learned something new about her condition so she has a wee bit of hope having just started a new regimen.

Sorry about your sister.  People think being "too thin" is a "great problem to have," but I know it really isn't at all.  It's very serious.  I hope she gets well soon.

Tomarra, good luck!! How much longer 'til you test?

Kar, I'm sorry about AF. Yuck.

clc, that's great about your cycles shortening/regulating! Oh, and I had the same exact problem when I stopped bcp. My b00bs shrunk significantly (I'd forgotten my excitement back in college, when I started taking it and suddenly was more ample). I'm a very small B now, and I bought a couple new bras to compensate! I find the Victoria's Secret racerback ones help to boost things up a bit. I also lost a few lbs after going off bcp. I think that, like Kar, my appetite was a bit stronger on bcp.

Good for you for getting back on the workout train, clc! I've never tried zumba, but it sounds like fun. I've decided to get back into my running groove....had been doing much less of it because I've heard/read conflicting reports on its possible negative impact on TTC. But I've decided that unless my RE tells me otherwise, the stress-reduction benefits are worth it. I also found my long-neglected gym's yoga schedule, and am planning to start going at least once a week...also for the stress-reduction benefits.

I got a BFN via blood test on Tuesday, and was totally crushed that my 4th round of clomid failed. AF showed up this morning. DH and I are meeting with my RE tomorrow morning to discuss next steps. She wants me to try 2 more rounds of clomid, since it's apparently making me O. I'd like to pursue a more aggressive course of action. So...picking myself up over here and steeling myself for another round....ugh.

Nov, how are you doing? Where are you in your cycle?

    Re: June TTC

I'm very sorry, Tang.  However, your RE seems very optimistic which is a good sign.  I agree with your rational for starting to run again!  Unless told otherwise, go for it.  Have you looked into acupuncture?  I believe that has worked well for several of the ladies that have moved up to the pregnancy and infants boards.

Zumba is so much fun.  I get a great workout but I also have fun which makes me want to go back. I've never done yoga or pilates but my gym has a Saturday morning pilates class which I might give a try.  In combination with Zumba and Power Hour I should have a great workout regiment going.

Thanks RFBF for the tip.  I can certainly wait a week!

    Hi Tang,

You're sweet to ask about me.  Sorry to hear of your BFN/AF.  Your RE must see potential for you without further intervention.  I know its hard to wait two more cycels, but you can do it!!

AFM - I'm in the 2ww, but no expecting anything this month.  I have some other stuff going on and I've sorta back-burnered TTC.  I still want a baby, but I'm OK with it just happening in its own time.

As I mentioned above, I've gained wight since ending BC and that has been really frustrating.  I started a new diet recently though adn have lost 3.5 lbs, so I'm encouraged.  I have also been having some back problems resurface.  I had back surgery a few years ago and have been really good, but I have pain again and some nerve symptoms, so I don't know what is going to happen with that.  I may need a steroid injection, or even another sugery.  I'm waiting for my MRI to be approved.

    Re: June TTC

I have a hip condition that is definitely impacted by even a small weight gain - 10 lbs makes a difference for me.  Congrats on the 3 - 4 lbs.  The slower it comes off (even as frustrating as it is) the more likely it is to STAY off, as you know.  Maybe after another 6 or 7 lbs your back will feel better.

Thanks Kar.  I hope that's the case, too.  With my history, they have to rule out re-injury as well, so back into the scanner for me.

In the meantime, since I was at the DR's anyways, and I told her we stopped BC, we chatted about TTC.  That was good since at my last physical, it wasn't part of the immediate plan.  She quoted me some stats about average time to conceive, checked out the girly parts, and said that if I'm not pg by Septmber she'll start running some tests if I want to.

    Re: June TTC

Tan, I'm sorry this cycle was not a success.  I have 6 days before AF arrives and I very nervous about this one.  I feel like you, if I do not have success by the 4th cycle why continue.  I guess we just have to have faith that the RE know what's best.

I have been taking Zumba class with my mother and it has been fun.  Once it ends I will be doing gentle yoga (a recommendation from the acupuncturist).  I had a knee injury 5 year ago when was corrected by physical thy. but if I gain more than 5 pounds it will make it worse.  I try to keep my weight stable by walking 2 to 4 miles a day and using the stationary bike.  I have been looking for a place in the north shore that will allow me to use their pool for a low fee.

I'm not actively TTC right now, but I like you guys. :)

Sorry about the BFN, Tang. Good luck, tomarra!

Nov, I started gaining weight when I went off BC too. Actually, the day I turned 25 I gained about 10 lbs in what seemed like 5 minutes. I made DH hide the scale after that. I've always been very petite (under 5', small boned, compact, can fit into overhead compartments) so 10 lbs feels like a lot for me.

clc, do you go to zumba class or do a video? It looks like a lot of fun and I want to try it. I was thinking about getting a video or there's also a zumba Wii game.

I prefer he live Zumba classes, but would do a video.  Speaking of which I should check if there are any onDemand.  Th eWii Zumba is fun, too.  My nieces have it and I've played it.  Just like Wii step, its no the same as a class, but better than sitting on the couch watching TV.

    Re: June TTC

I just learned that the jean size I am is actually 3 number sizes bigger in 1950s measurements.  So, that means my wedding dress was my actual, original size because wedding dress manufacturers stuck with the original inch requirements per size.

So, how fat do I feel all of a sudden?!  I guess that's why they started doing "vanity sizing."  Sigh. :(

    I am sorry too Tang.
TTC can be such a marathon.  I always found it helpful to at least know the next step.

Love zumba but also love body pump.  I think that adding in the weight is extremely helpful and increases your metabolism over time too.

I am putting one foot back into TTC land.  Just had sonohystogram and lab work done and insurance approval for a thaw cycle.
Funny, my FSH was better than initially.  I've developed a fear of becoming pregnant with a biologic child (my infertile sister laughed and said I have nothing to worry about).  It is weird but I have grown quite attached to my donor's genetics and don't want to role the dice with my own.
    How crazy is that?

    Re: June TTC

Good luck Luck!  I kind of understand your concern- I didn't have much time between IVF cycles but I worried about possibly conceiving and, in my case, it would've meant my 43 year old egg instead of the donor egg.

I'm with you all on the weight struggles. I can't blame BC but I do blame marriage!  I've gained 10 lbs in the 2 years since I got married and- like WPP, I'm only 5 ft so 10 lbs is a big difference.  Baahhh!  Zumba sounds like a lot of fun, maybe I'll try it. Seeing an OB next week (I'm officially done with the RE) and the nurse asked my pre-pregnancy weight and I mumbled the answer...

Sorry Boston that you haven't been able to get the u/s yet. I guess that's the one and only upside of IVF, they check early and often because we're higher risk.  It's hard to wait but try to take comfort in the fact that they aren't worried!

Good luck to everyone this month!

    Re: June TTC

Congrats, tc!! That's so wonderful. How many weeks are you at?

Good luck, luckinlife! I don't think that's crazy at all...once you've mentally and emotionally prepared for something, and gotten attached to the idea of the donor's genetics, it makes sense that you're hoping it'll work out that way. When will you do the transfer?

Thanks for the support, everybody. The past couple days have been rough. But DH and I just got back from a great appointment with our RE. I was very surprised when she told us right off the bat that she thinks we should move on to injectibles. Given my diagnosis of hypothalamic amenorrhea, she thinks there might be a subtle imbalance somewhere that's interfering with the clomid. So she thinks injectibles, which have a more direct path to the ovaries, may be more effective. If all's clear at tomorrow's baseline ultrasound, I'll start taking them tomorrow night. I'm actually excited, strangely enough...I sure didn't think I'd wind up this far down the infertility path, or that I'd be willingly signing up for 10 days of consecutive injections...but there it is. I think the fact that we're trying something new, with better success rates, is a relief. The only concerning thing is that injectibles oftentimes produce way more follicles than clomid, and if she sees more than 3, she'll convert midcycle to IVF to avoid a John & Kate + 8 situation  (apparently Kate did injectibles and IUI...yowzers).

Nov, I'm sorry to hear about your back problems. It sounds like you had a good doctor's visit, though. Here's hoping the pain resolves itself without surgery or injections!

clc, I did look into accupuncture last month. I'm very tempted to give it a try, but the monthly cost, on top of the other costs we're incurring, made me decide to wait a bit. I told DH that I'd hold off 'til we moved along to a more aggressive treatment...so maybe I'll go for it this month.

Anyway, Happy Friday, everybody! Here's hoping the sunshine sticks around for the weekend...

tang - maybe you should NOT do acupuncture if you're going with injectables and more "aggressive" fertility treatments.  it might encourage multiples...  (speaking from experience LOL!)  :)

Thanks ladies!  I'll be 8 weeks tomorrow. Feeling a little more confident since seeing the heartbeat but I'm sure I'll have some anxiety the whole way along. I'm queasy 24/7 so taking that as a positive!

Tang, that sounds really promising. Interesting about Jon & Kate- I'd never heard how they ended up with the multiples. For what it's worth, I thought acupuncture was great, especially before and after my IVF transfers. It's just so relaxing.

Here's hoping for more BFPs this month!

    Re: June TTC

Hey everyone!  Sorry, was away from the boards.  In the meantime, yep the "period"/withdrawal IUD bleeding finally stopped.  I started using an ovulation predictor kit (OPK?) and even though this is day 14 if I count that as a period, I have not yet had a positive, but the line is getting a little darker each day.  The bleeding lasted 11 days!  It was so crazy.  It was getting lighter and lighter and no pain, so I was not so concerned.  I have read that people needed to go to the ER for bleeding.  I took Iron everyday just to be on the safe side, lol!

Last night we BD'd just in case, since my husband is now going away on a rotation for 5 weeks (he's in PA school).  I won't see him until next weekend, and I'm sure I'll see a positive on the OPK in the next 2-3 days.  I'm hoping that the BDing last night will "cover" me for the next 4 days or so, because I think if I ovulate, say, Thursday, I'll be too late by the time he comes home in the weekend.

Otherwise we'll have to wait another month to try again!  A pregnant friend of mine recently gave me all her OPKs and PG tests!!  So I am hoping to do lots of OPK and have her good luck rub off on me Laughing
