May - TTC

    Re: May - TTC

Fram, that's correct.  Based on a 35 day cycle and 14 day luteal phase, you're probably ovulating around CD21.  Cycle length varies because of ovulation, but your luteal phase is normally the same length from cycle to cycle (usually 12-16 days).  CM was never a good indicator for me, so I gave up checking.  I had better luck with cervical position and a fertility monitor.

Oh, about TCOYF, I thought the book was great, but don't feel like a failure if it doesn't happen right away.  The book makes it sound like if you chart, you'll get pregnant your first cycle, which is possible, but not for everyone.  Even with perfect timing, you still only have a 20% chance of getting pregnant each month.

    Re: May - TTC

Fram - I found I had CM at random times throughout my cycle - sometimes immediately before AF arrived!  Ovulation strips also did not work for me.  So DH and I would basically BD about every other day from when AF ended to about 10 days before I thought my next AF would begin (I had a pretty regular cycle).  That eventually worked for us.

Good luck Flaxen!!  I will cross my fingers that all your pricking pays off!

Thanks for the input ladies.  I am so glad I figured this out after only 2 months of TTC.  Maybe CM isn't the right indicator for me.  I am feeling really bummed, if that is the case, because I thought hubby was sick during the week I ovulated and I may have actually ovulated the next week.  Grrrr you can't win!  Anyway, glad I figured this out now - or at least figured out that I need to figure it out :o)

    Re: May - TTC

i'll add my two cents (TTC boards are much more exciting than the PG boards, btw!) - my CM was never a good indicator either - and if you're BD-ing every other day it's pretty much impossible to differentiate between CM and - you know, the other stuff.  ;)  i had an irregular period so that might be why my CM was particularly screwy, but b/c of my issue, i would have phases of CM and then dry, CM and then dry, before o-ing (pcos - awesome).  fram, 35 days is considered long but still within "normal" range so it will be interesting to see if you have cycles of CM or not.  i found through temping for 8 months or so that i always had 14 days after o-ing before AF - that was a really helpful thing to know.  finally, regarding chances of PG achievement - i agree TCOYF makes it seem easy, but i think for some people it really is - annoying!  ;)  for eaxmple, once i went on clomid, the first month it didn't work (i think it's b/c the first month's egg was probably screwed up due to my hormone issues during the last month's cycle, you know how in TCOYF they talk about how the egg for next month is being set up this month, etc.) - but the second month worked like a charm - it was shocking, since i had tried for 6 other cycles where it didn't work despite having the right timing - so it's just weird, i guess you never know when it will happen.  and, i don't know if this is an annoying thing to post now that i'm PG, but i mean it in a constructive way for all of you TTC-ers - i definitely have thought to myself many times how i wouldn't mind being back in the TTC shoes.  it's weird - i really wanted to get PG, we tried for a while, but once i got it i kind of missed being "myself" - now i feel like my body is not mine, and that i have an expiration date on my freedom, LOL - so, i guess what i'm trying to say is, hang in there - it's miz, i know, but TRY to look on the bright side if it's at all possible.  you may be like me - one day you'll miss not being PG (as unbelievable as that seems).  granted, i'm not a very motherly-ooh-babies-i-love-them type person, and i got PG with twins when i did everything in my power not to, so that could be part of the reason i feel this way - but, nonetheless, try to hang in there and be at peace with where you are now as much as possible.  thinking of you and hoping for great news soon for everyone!

    Re: May - TTC

Fram, I learned what your doc told you by accident after using the strips.  I got AF exactly 14 days after the strips indicated I'd be ovulating every time.  But, my cycles range from 26 - 32 days.  So, all the variation in cycle length must be before ovulation.

And, I've noticed when I ovulate changes every month.  If I were temping, I'd NEVER be able to figure out a pattern; it just isn't there to be found.  If all 4 months I got an LH surge on Day 12, for instance, I'd also be able to figure out from temping when I should ovulate, but since it's all over the place, what would a graph of my temperature tell me?  Nothin'.

I've gotten my surges on Days 11, 12, and 14 (in this order).  Now, in month 4 of using the strips, it's Day 14 and still no +.  I wonder what today will show.  Thank goodness I'm not trying to establish a pattern with temping.  What a confusing disaster that would be.  I suppose it would be great for anyone who ovulates on the same day every cycle, but at least I know that's not me.

P.S.  Today got + on ovulation strip, Day 15 meaning tomorrow or the next day is when I'll ovulate.  So far, the window for me is Day 12 - 17.  No wonder we aren't pg.  I wish I'd been testing like this all along.

Bleh AF yesterday, at first I thought it was just spotting but nope full blown AF overnight.  I just hope I get my emotional sh!t together since I will be going to a birthday party for a 1 year old on Saturday.  And I am awaiting news from friends to see if they are PG and I really hope they are but at the same time I was really hoping to be PG with them.

    Greetings, All.

Agree with Stef, Scorpio.  It's going to be a great weekend for a nice frosty beverage.  And, if you're slightly behind other friends who are PG, you can benefit from their advice and hand-me-downs.

Just an update for anyone who needs good news.  DH and I are still in shock, but had our first US this AM. Clean bill of health for LO.  S/he's in the right place (my biggest fear) and we got a heartbeat at 7 wks 4 days.  You guys are the only ones who know!  We're still deciding when we can share the news in the non-virtual world.

Best wishes for everyone that it's virtually/electronically contagious!

hello everyone! I've been off the radar dealing with the ectopic and trying to keep my mind calm, but am ready to get back in the game - I have been checking in here and there and am so happy for all of the wonderful bfp's that have happened in the past few months! Incredible :)

We will begin an ivf cycle in june (maybe around the 12th?) and I am thinking of starting up at the henry benson institute for mind/body health - have any of you done this program? Flax, I think you are enrolled? Just wondering if you have any feedback on it - it seems like a big commitment so i want to be sure it's worth it before signing up...

flax, good luck on saturday morning - I will be sending positive and sticky thoughts!

Cookie - congratulations on your first US ;)

    Welcome back to both Cookies!

I thought for sure AF was showing up yesterday on day 28.  I was actually thrilled because I didn't have a good feeling about our attempts this month and would have been relieved to just know and move on to the next cycle.  But noooooooo!  Looks like another long-ish cycle.

Good news is that since I may tend to ovulate later than I thought, I can safely enjoy a bachelorette weekend in a couple of weeks!

    Hello all,
Add me to the list of those welcoming AF today. Ugh.  On the plus side, as mentioned above, there are the frosty beverages to be enjoyed. Also, I think on the plus side, we've started looking more seriously into the donor egg option. It hasn't been an easy decision but it feels like it's time to move on.  On a lighter note, the egg donor agency websites remind me of match.com and it's freaking me out a little!

Best of luck to everyone hoping for good news this month.

    Hi Everyone!

My thoughts to those who have had AF visit.  As others have suggested, enjoy a frosty beverage or two.

We are triggering tomorrow night and IUI on Sunday.  Two days earlier than last cycle, which is a little odd.  At least I can take it easy on Sunday after the IUI and don't have to go back to work.  And I'm trying acupuncture.

Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions to help the IUI?

    Re: May - TTC

Good luck Half on the IUI.  No real thoughts or suggestions.  I did acupunture once after IVF.  I went back to work right after all my IUIs (actually one of my partners asked if I needed a cigarette afterwards - too funny) but I think it is good that you are taking it easy.

Flax - How did the retrieval go??  I hope it went well.

Cookie - Great news about your u/s.  What a relief, huh?

Cookies - Welcome back to the boards!  I hope this upcoming cycle is the one for you.  I bet the IVF significantly decreases risk of ectopic since the embryo is placed in the uterus.  Did you do IUI before?

TC - totally like match.com.  At least there is no dreaded first date!
One thing I would say - When I called the donor place to  choose the donor the woman there knew them all.  We had a first, second and third choice and she gave us a clear opinion on them all.  I found that helpful.  She told us she loved our first choice (subsequently everyone at the fertility center said the same), our second was also a good choice but the third seemed a little crazy.  I was surprised that she gave me this info but I will say that it doesn't hurt to ask them what they think since they have met them .  I do believe they just want you to have a successful cycle with a good, reliable donor.

    Re: May - TTC

I finally got a + ovulation strip on Day 16 so I didn't O 'til Day 17 or 18 this month.  I'm facinated by this.  Ovulation on days 12, 13, 15, and17 for the 4 months I've tested.  And, AF 14 days later (on the first 3, anyway) to prove it's correct.  No wonder we aren't pg yet - I should have been doing this all along.  Doh!

I'm raising a virtual frosty beverage along with the rest of the crowd here in the menstrual hut. Cheers! May this be your month!

AFM, I think my acupuncture sessions have been doing some good. My last couple of cycles have improved dramatically – earlier O, no pms, longer LP, no spotting before AF.

Sending (big fat) positive vibes to flaxen, half-full and cookies...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

am - that's odd.  what gives the RE the idea that you have unexplained infertility?  refresh my memory - how long had you been TTC?  i didn't have the impression that you had "major" issues (not meant to sound rude - you know what i mean).  also, why IUI - does she think DH's sperm needs the extra help?  'cause besides that i don't know what extra good that is (assuming you time things right at home)?  anyway, good luck - TTC-ing the old fashioned way for a little while sounds like a good plan - hope you have success!
