    November TTC

ok, i'll start the thread this month!

i finally have an update.  AF arrived saturday, exactly 2 weeks after my rise in temp.  DH and i bd'd every other day from around day 10 to 3 or 4 days after my temperature rose.  metformin (or else just naturally) got my cycle down to 42 days this month.  lots of bd-ing at presumably the right times, so i'm upset because i feel like my timing must be right and there's something else not right.  and before i get a lot of "get real, grow up, etc" responses, i know it takes time - but it's still hard to not be disappointed!  anyway, i finally took everyone's advice and bought TCOYF and some other book to see what's going on and figure out if i need to make other changes to my lifestyle.  blah!

    how's eoe?

Blah indeed, Stef.  You'll get no lectures here, we've all been there.  It is easy to get one's hopes up.  Hang in  there and keep trying.

I'm at day 29 today...my cycle's usually around 30-31 days, so I'm in the "wait and see" mode.  This last month was the first one we really tried, so I'm trying to keep my expectations low, but it's hard.  Fingers crossed!

    Happy November everyone!
This is our first month trying so it's actually really fun! My DH's one request of this whole process is to try and stay happy and sane, not obsess, so we're trying to stick to that philosophy. I've tracked my cycles the past few months and we'll be staying in a lot this weekend :)
I'm trying to stay relaxed, enjoy, and know whatever happens is meant to be (easier said than done but making the best effort!). It's funny now quickly you become obsessed with the calendar and a few weeks can feel like a lifetime. I think I've spent hours staring at the month of November going "1, 2, 3, 4..." counting days with my finger.
Best of luck to you all this month...I have a good feeling about Novemeber

    Hi Ladies -

Went for my first u/s today. I heard the heart beat! I'm 6 weeks tomorrow. Still keeping the enthusiasm done. It's still a long road, but I'm very, very happy.

Good luck to all of you as you try for the BFP!

Congrats Mary... that is great news!!

I asked in another post, but wanted to put here at well since I didn't hear back.  Does anyone know about the blood test that tells if you've ovulated?  When in cycle does it need to be done?  Do you need to be under the care of RE in order to get/request?

If nothing happens this cycle, I'm thinking of buying the OPKs to see if I'm even O'ing... but they are just so expensive... (worth it though, I'm sure).

    Re: November TTC

IPW - yes, they can do a blood test to show you've ovulated.  My old dr (before i moved onto the fertility specialist) did this for me when i first came in due to my irregularly LOOOONNNNGGG cycle.  so i'd suggest calling your regular doctor and asking if this is something they can do.

refresh my memory - what is your story?  do you have irregular cycles?  i've read mixed reviews on OPKs - like when poeple have irregular or long cycles they don't always work.  ??  are you temping?  not that that helps PREDICT ovulation but, at least for me, it has shown when i've ovulated, which for someone with irregular cycles is pretty useful info!  :)

    Re: November TTC

Thanks Stef... maybe I'm overreacting... only our 3rd month trying, but I just don't think I'm O'ing for some reason.  I don't get any CM at all... and it seems that is the one thing that happens to everyone.

I am not temping yet.. my SIL was trying to convince me to not do anything except "enjoy my DH" for the first 6 months of trying... but easier said than done I think.  I'm 35... so I'd like to know sooner rather than later if my body's on the right (or wrong) track.

As for cycles... since being off BC (July), I've had 32, 24 and 28 day cycles.  So somewhat irregular, but nothing too bizarre.  Because of my unsure O date... we've BD every other day for almost 2 weeks starting around CD7 and ending around CD 18 for all 3 TTC cycles so far.

    Re: November TTC

I don't think they will have you come in for b/w after only 3 months of trying.  They usually don't start testing until after a full year of trying.

Your best bet would be either start temping or get the OPK kits.  I think it's a bit too early to be panicking.  Also don't forget just because you do ovulate doesn't mean you will necessarily get pregnant right away either.

Have you read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility?  That might be a good place to start.

    Re: November TTC

IPW - i recommend temping, i find it's really hard to tell what's going on in the CM department, at least for me, and my temps have been a pretty consistent indicator.  your cycles sound pretty normal in length and fairly consistent so that's good and the OPKs would likely work for you.  i'm doing the same thing in the bd dept - every other day from around cd 10 to after my temp rises.. no luck yet!  :(  i don't think it's unreasonable for you to communicate with your doctor your concerns, given your age (not saying it's a problem, but hey, none of us is 20 anymore!).  doesn't hurt to lay the groundwork... and knowing murphy's law maybe once you do that you'll get your BFP!  ;)

    Re: November TTC

OK, for some reason i can't start a new thread right now so i'll ask another question in this one...

you know how they say women are fertile over different parts of their cycle, like some poeple are fertile towards the beginning and others towards the end, etc.... well, if you are pretty sure of when you're ovulating based on temping, does that mean you're fertile around then?  in other words, is your most fertile time always around ovulation?  like are the poeple who get PG on CD6, for example, ovulating that early?  does that make any sense?

    thanks!  :)

    Re: November TTC

IPW - I also had a hard time figuring out the cm so temping helped me a lot. I could totally see when I o'd. After a while, I just stuck with the OPK's since I could tell I was fairly regular.

Mary - great news! Will you have another u/s in two weeks?

Sending good TTC thoughts everyone's way, and yay Mary!  I'm very happy for you!

AFM, Day 30, no AF, but zip by way of PG symptoms, so I think she's on her way.  I do have quite a bit of low-back pain, but I attribute that to the two-day conference I was just at -- boo, function chairs.

    Oh well, onwards and upwards!

    Re: November TTC

Stef, you're most fertile in the days leading up to ovulation.  This varies from woman to woman, because everyone ovulates at a different time.  I would pick up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility.  It does a  great job explaining when you're most fertile and what signs you should be looking for.  Your temp spikes after ovulation, so if you wait for a temp spike, it might be too late to get pregnant.

Now on day 33...still nothing.  I've been on a 32-34 day cycle for the last 4 months, so if nothing by Sunday, I'm going to try to test.  I have lower back pain and have had some cramping, and am EXHAUSTED, but don't want to attribute that to anything.  Cautiously optimistic.

AF showed today.  The upshot is I can take Advil for the cramps.  Sigh.  Am loving the TTC exchanges with me and DH:

Me: Hey ... my "friend" arrived.
DH: That's OK.  We'll just try harder next month.
    Me: That's what she said.
    DH: Nice.

    Re: November TTC

    Hi ladies...

I've been absent from the boards for a bit--We took a month off from TTC because I had a horrible sinus infection and ended up on two different antibiotics and codeine and lots of over-the-counter drugs and my dr thought it would be best if we held off for the month. I was bummed at first, but I actually think it was a blessing in disguise because it forced me to think about other things and not focus so much on TTC. AF ended earlier this week, so we're back in the game this month. I'm hoping I can carry the laid back attitude I discovered last month going forward. We'll see.

GC--sorry about AF arriving, but I hear you on the mini-advil celebration.

IPW--I definitely second/third the recommendations re TCOYF. I have trouble figuing out the CM thing, but my temps are usually fairly indicative and I find that helps me to figure out what's going on. I haven't tried OPKs yet--I'm afraid that  will make me obsessive. Also, TCOYF talks about taking Robitussin if you don't seem to have fertile CM. (The kind with Guaifenesin as the only active ingredient--this might be TMI but apparently it thins the mucus everywhere, not just in your chest/nose). During the course of my drug-filled month, I definitely downed a bit of Robitussin and did actually notice that I had more CM than usual. No idea if it was pure coincidence (or cruel fate that the one month I actually notice CM is the same month that we're not allowed to TTC) or not, but it made me wonder if there's something to it.

Sorry about that GC... bummer.  You definitely deserve your (sticky!) BFP soon, and I'm totally rooting for you!

Good luck Luv - waiting to see some good news!

I'm just living vicariously through others at this point... I'm CD20 and just have a feeling it didn't happen this month... but next month wouldn't be bad with a nice holiday surprise!  And will take everyone's recommendation to start temping.

Good luck Mary... sorry about the m/s... but I hear that's a good sign!

Amrunner... our posts just crossed, but wanted to thank you for the advice.  I've also heard that about Robitussin... and also Mucinex (with only that one ingredient).  I'm not the biggest fan of medicines, really only take Excedrin Migraine every time AF comes along (and always brings along a 48 hour migraine with her!)... but I'd be up for trying a new tactic.  Besides, maybe that will also benefit keeping away flu bugs this season!

    Thanks for the advice!

    Re: November TTC

Makes sense about the Robitussin -- the active ingredient doesn't differentiate between your nose and your, um, hoo-ha.  Sadly, it won't keep the flu away, though, but you'll have a nice productive cough right off the bat!

IPW, I hear you on the "I'm 35 and want to know everything's working!" feeling.  I have no advice, but thought I would send you some commiseration.

amrunner -- glad you are feeling better.  Good luck with the laid-back attitude!  We have the same goal, and as such I haven't gone out and purchased TCOYF or started temping ... but am wondering if maybe I should.  I figured we'd give it a few months of just going old school.  You know, the stuff my Health Teacher assured us would result in pregnancy and ruin our lives whilst in high school.

Funny how it is very much harder to get knocked up when it's socially acceptable.
