BRUINS ORGANIZATION: SIMPLY A JOKE

Re: BRUINS ORGANIZATION: SIMPLY A JOKE

Management is a mirror of the owner, always.  That fact the Stanley Cup finals is a distant memory is result of poor ownership decisions of the past. Nonetheless, the cap has helped to create a chance for the current Bruins team to succeed.  The next year of contract negotiations will provide factual proof if Chiarelli is a top level GM.  In my opinion, the draft picks are being stored by Chiarelli to broker a deal near the trade deadline to help this team win the cup. Until then I will be hopeful these young players can experience continued growth in their development individually and as a team.  In assessing my loyalty to the Bruins, I find the Jacobs era is one of questionable ownership.  Jacobs influence though is limited to choice of the general manager, concession and ticket prices. The major focus of Jacobs is to win the cup in order to produce more revenues, Bob Kraft is not much different in that scheme of thought.  Consequently Chiarelli, Jacobs and the fans need the current team to win the cup.  This team has the potential if all remain positive.

So if it's the playoffs that matter and the playoffs only - why are so many of the same folks saying that complaining about how the team is playing in the current regular season?

Trying to have it both ways or simply morons? I'll hang up and listen.
In Response to Re: BRUINS ORGANIZATION: SIMPLY A JOKE : LOL, another "the future is bright" lemming. How many years have you been saying that? What have the Bruins done drafting wise tells you it is going to make a significant difference? Last time the Bruins have a top 10 pick it was some buy named Kessel and they traded him! Same for Thornton & Samsonov. If the Bruins get lucky and actually hit a pick he won't be around for long anyways.
Posted by HeraldReader08
Milan Lucic says hello.

David Krejci does too.

Oh, and so do Patrice Bergeron, Matt Hunwick, Mark Stuart, Vladimir Sobotka, Brad Marchand, Bryon Bitz. And speaking of trades, they foisted off Andrew Raycroft for Tuukka Rask.

THN's Future Watch Team Grade for the Bruins: A-

"The Bruins never get too caught up in where they draft in the first round. Their scouts typically go off the chart a bit and produce late-round gems."

As for your "how many years have you been saying that?" comment, I'd say since Chiarelli took over and pulled the Bruins up from the cellar to the top of the league.

And now they have what anyone with eyes can see is going to be a Top Five pick in the spring, and Toronto fans are ready to tar and feather Brian Burke.

Yeah, I'd say the future looks extremely bright. With the salary cap, teams aren't going to be buying their way to a Stanley Cup. It's going to take drafting and development, two things in which the Bruins excel.

I know I will regret doing this:

The year is 1994, and the Red Wings have just been eliminated in the first round.  The have only won 5 playoff rounds in the past decade, and six since their last finals appearance in 1966.  No Cup in 40 years.
Clearly, they were a disaster of an organization with no hope of turning things around and making it to the finals again, let alone winning it all any time soon.

You need to take your rose coloured glasses off and learn to be objective. You are all impressed and enamoured with regular season points and whatnot... WHO CARES!!! It is about one thing and thats the playoffs and the Bruins lack of success in the post season can be matched up with the worst of any team in any pro sport. Its not hating its called facts p.s. the Bruins didnt win the Eastern Conference, the lost in the second round to a 6 seed on home ice. If they won the east they would have been in the Cup Finals. I bet you are ironing your $34.99 Bruins Northeast Division Champion T shirt right now arent you

This is why im not really all  that excited with these first and second round draft picks that the Bruins have Lets face it the track record is nothing to be proud of.

My worst fear is the Bruins will trade for an impact player at the deadline, give up the picks and the Bruins go out in the first or second round and the player walks. (see Gonchar, Nylander)

Or they draft another Thornton or Kessel and then trade him...

Re: BRUINS ORGANIZATION: SIMPLY A JOKE

When addressing draft success, there are two questions I think are really relevant.  I will attempt to present data pertaining to both, without drawing conclusions.  For the sake of recentness (good overlap with current front-office/scouts) and simplicity, I will look at the past five drafts. (Note, I relied on Wikipedia for this data, I cannot vouch for its accuracy)

1)
How did well performing teams draft?

Red Wings

• 2005: Jakub Kindl (19th overall)) – still in AHL
• 2006: None (Cory Emmerton 2nd round (41st overall)) - AHL
• 2007: Brendan Smith (27th overall) - WCHA
• 2008: Thomas McCollum (30th overall) - OHL
• 2009: None (Landon Ferraro (32nd overall)) – AHL

Penguins

• 2005: Sidney Crosby (1) - Star
• 2006: Jordan Staal(2) - Star
• 2007: Angelo Esposito(20) – traded, QMJHL
• 2008: None
• 2009: Simon Despres(30) – QMJHL

Blackhawks

• 2005: Jack Skille(7) – 4-2-6 in 22 NHL games
• 2006: Jonathan Toews(3) - Star
• 2007: Patrick Kane(1) - Star
• 2008: Kyle Beach(11) - AHL
• 2009: Dylan Olsen(28) - AJHL

2) Draft picks aren’t made in a vacuum.  They are either-or decisions.  Who could they have drafted instead?

2005: Lashoff;  next five

23: Nicklas Bergfors – only 9 NHL games

24: T. J. Oshie – 14-25-39 in 57 games last year

25: Andrew Cogliano – 36-47-83 in 164 games

26: Matt Pelech – 5 NHL games

27: Joe Finley – just started in AHL

2006: Phil Kessel

6: Derick Brassard – 11-16-27 in 48 games

7: Kyle Okposo – 20-24-44 in 74 games

8: Peter Mueller – 35-55-90 in 153 games

9: James Sheppard – 9-34-43 in 160 games

10: Michael Frolik – 21-24-45 in 75 games

2007: Zach Hamill

9: Logan Couture – just started AHL

10: Keaton Ellerby – just started AHL

11: Brandon Sutter – 1-5-6 in 50 NHL games

12: Ryan McDonagh - WCHA

13: Lars Eller – SEL

2008: Joe Colborne

17: Jake Gardiner – in school

18: Chet Pickard - WHL

19: Luca Sbisa – 39 NHL games, now in AHL

20: Michael Del Zotto - OHL

21: Anton Gustafsson – Loaned out from AHL

2009: Jordan Caron

26: Kyle Palmieri – US dev

27: Philippe Paradis - QMJHL

28: Dylan Olsen - AJHL

29: Carter Ashton - WHL

30: Simon Despres - QMJHL
