sturms 3.5 mil wont count against cap until dec as he is on ltr...so basically we got 6 plus million to spend now and will have to dec to address sturms 3.5 mil -

Then what happens when Sturm comes back? You will need to move 3.5 million in contracts when he's ready. You are just delaying the problem. -

When Sturm comes off LTIR, can't the Bruins theoretically keep him on it until they move $3.5M worth of contracts, which they somehow never find a way to do? -

Please don't start this ridiculous idea again. Technically, they wouldn't be able to activate Sturm until the cap space was cleared. Honestly, that's not something that any team would ever do. -

Obviously. But I was thinking more in terms that there is no absolute deadline date that the B's have to clear salary space for Sturm to get off LTIR. -

(a) Illustration: A Player with a Player Salary of $1.5 million becomes unfit to play for more than 24 days and 10 games. At the time the Player becomes unfit to play, the Club has an Averaged Club Salary of $39.5 million, and the Upper Limit is $40 million. The Club may replace the unfit-to-play Player with another Player of Players with an aggregate Player Salary and Bonuses of up to $1.5 million. The first $500,000 of such replacement salary and bonuses shall count toward the Club's Average Club Salary, bringing the Averaged Club Salary to the Upper Limit. The Club may then exceed the Upper Limit by up to another $1 million as a result of the replacement salary and bonuses.
However, if the unfit-to-play Player once again becomes fit to play, and the Club has not otherwise created any Payroll Room during the interim period, then the Player shall not be permitted to rejoin the Club until such time as the Club reduces its Averaged Club Salary to below the Upper Limit.
I agree NAS it is GM suicide(LOL) and I don't see Pc doing this, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings. This is meant as a penalty as usually you want your player back from injury. -

Sturm is a 20+ goal guy. If he's kept off the active roster, but is off LTIR, they have to pay him anyway. If they signed or traded for some guy with a similar cap hit, then (as many ridiculous posters here used to suggest) didn't clear cap room and kept Sturm off the roster, the'd be paying $7M for that roster spot.
It just is not going to happen. -

So true, or they would bury someone in Prov, same problem. There absolutely has to be movement, no way can Stuart and Wheeler be signed and added to roster without someone going. The problem with any deal right now is the fact that everyone wants to move money back, come Dec it may change with injuries and teams needing to move up. -

Pc is going to try and finagle a lineup for season start and then players like Ryder will have their last chance and it should be a short one to produce or they will be gone. -
