    buy out marco(ut)???

its gunna be cheaper to buy out marco sturm then to keep him on the roster, yea he can put the puck in the net, but he has had consistent injuries. it would cost around 1.6 mil for the next 2 yrs accoridng to capgeek.com's buyout calculator compared to his injured ash on the bench at 3.5. i kno you can long term injury reserve for him but still i dont think its worth it. cost less to jus buy him out.

    your thoughts?

Drop him at the airport with a 1-way ticket back to Germany.

my thoughts are that under the Collective Bargaining Agreement you cannot buy out a player who is injured

If you buy out sturm you get a savins of 2.3 m this yr and then a cap hit of 1.3 next year, you also have to replace him for that or up to 2.3m. who ya gonna get ? the only advantage would that would allow 2 entry level contract players in such as caron and sauve. If sturm for some reason takes alot longer to recover from his injury, you get cap releif, so no real advantage unless the prospects jump in.

    1. pbergeron is correct, the CBA does not allow buyouts of injured players.

    2. PC said that Sturm will be out until about mid-November, so until then, his cap does not count, which makes room for an entry level guy like Caron or Colborne.

    3. I don't really get the Sturm bashing.  He is a streaky winger, yes.  But he was the leading goal-scorer last year.  He is what he is: an above average third line winger.  Unfortunately, because of the myriad injuries, he was forced into playing above his ability last year.  I think he is gone by next year, but no need to buy the guy out.  He isn't Paille or Wheeler, who offered next to no offense last year.

Keep in mind he'll miss the first 3-4months of the season and his salary won't count against the cap. Once he's healthy, then buy him out and the cap hit would be smaller because he awould have already received half the contract.

The last thing the Bruins need to do is buyout anyone right now. Paying players not on the roster has not worked out well for this team. Sturm and Ryder are up after this year, get what you can out of them and move on.

No-one is getting bought out. Sturm's cap  $ will not count against the cap until he gets back, at which time he will promptly hurt himself again and Bs will have that cap $ back again to grab someone at the trade deadline.

First off, Sturm is supposed to be back sometime in November.  Secondly, the window for contract buyouts is a short period during the summer.  The only loophole that I am aware of is if an RFA files for arbitration.  In that event, the team involved is allowed to buy out a contract after the RFA arbitration issue is signed.

    Re: buy out marco(ut)???

If Sturn hadnt been injured so much, he is THE GUY the Bruins need.  A super-fast, super-talented goal scorer.  Bashing the guy for getting hurt is utterly ridiculous.  The injuries WERE NOT his fault guys, come one.  He has some amazing talent and again, he IS the player the Bruins need.  Who knows if he'll ever be the same, but he can score better than anyone on the Bruins currently.
