IMO, Thomas gets traded at the trade deadline, he needs to prove his surgery was just minor, and that he can still play at a high level, teams that either miss out on a goalie this offseason or think they have enough but dont, will come calling, infact we might get a better return by holding on to him for awhile

TB has Smith but no other goalies, WSH will need a vet, PHL 50-50 shot. DAL 50-50 shot.

So between these to teams you are giveing us a 75% chance of moving Timmy.  My guess is that this is an extremely optimistic number.

In the last two decades, Philly has chosen to sign an aging and ineffective John vanBiesbrouck over Curtis Joseph - and lost because of it.  They thought they could win with Roman Cechmanek.  They were prepared to run with Brian Boucher (the first time).  They handed the reins to Antero Nittymaki.  See a pattern here?

The Flyer organization does not value goaltending, they like value goaltending.  It's obvious to almost everyone that they need an upgrade in goal, but all Holmgren has to do is point out that Leighton had 3 shutouts against MTL.  He didn't have a great series against Chicago, but hey, Richards and Carter weren't scoring either, so how much do you blame on the goalie?

Thomas would probably be an upgrade over Leighton/Boucher/Emery, but at $5M/year, you can't say he's good value. He'd be an interesting fit in Washington just because he thrives on making the ludicrous, acrobatic save more than the sound positional save.  I doubt this is the move Washington's considering though, because of the hip injury but also because that "high end goalie" is part of an offer and I'm not sure there's a fit for the Bruins and Caps to make a large, multiplayer deal.

It's safe to say that no team is going to make a run at Thomas after his surgery. He's an above average to excellent goalie with a pretty high cap hit for his age. Genius had posted a few teams that lack outstanding goalkeeping: Edmonton, Chicago, Islanders, Detroit and LA will not take on a vet with such a big salary. Take out Tampa as Yzerman won't pay for a goalie.

San Jose and the Caps are two logical landing spots, but there is no way they give up assets for the Tank.
