My "era" goes back through the 80's, but by the time I was old enough to remember Nifty, Milbury, etc. they were wrapping up their careers.

1) He could not break a window with his slapshot.
2) He could skate backwards, if and when he got beat, he tripped them.

Dallas Smith represents all that was bad about 'old time hockey'.

I'm an old guy that realizes that "they don't make them like they used to" is a GOOD thing.  Thank God they don't make them like they used to.

Original 6 - guys who finally made it, stayed there for life.  Risk putting in a rookie for a veteran?  It was a gamble then, unless you are talking Orr or Sanderson.  They kept Eddie Johnston over Dan Bouchard - who became the backbone of the Nordiques?
They had no conditioning back then.
They basically stood around and pounded on each other.
A defenseman's job was to tie up the puck for a face off.
The puck went into the corner - and NEVER came out as the scrum played the puck with their feet against the boards.

Back onto the thread - Dallas Smith???  You MUST be kidding.

Those guys brought two Cups to Boston. What did Chara and Thomas ever bring the Bruins?  Oh yeah, a second round loss to a rotten, tired Hurricane team.

And Orr played a ton of minutes, played the PP and SH and hit and fought.

I was talking about the NHL in general, not just the Bruins.  The bottom half of the NHL was pretty pathetic.

I glad Istir the pot I.m just talking fav, bruins that I read about or met. I not talking about skills.
