the loss to buffalo really doesn,t concern me ........... BUT. the g.m could in the long run.... injury bug could be a problem.. and putting axelsson on the first line or PP is not making them any better... does anyone have the feeling that he won,t pull the trigger on a trade to make this team better.. ( i beleave he won,t make deal) and do you think he knows how to use the salary cap?.... (i don,t think he does) this is where a good g.m. makes the differents....and they win stanley cups

Hmmmm.... let's see... he didn't trade Kessel last year, though everyone and their brother was callling for him to do so. He traded for Manny Fernandez, who seems to be doing OK right now. He signed free agents Blake Wheeler and Michael Ryder. He OK'd the demotion of Peter Schaefer to Providence, despite his large contract, in favor of Wheeler. He dumped Glen Murray. He held on to young players like Krejci and Sobotka, instead of using them as chips last season to pick up a rental (Hossa, anyone?).

Oh, and he's a Havard grad who's been involved in hockey all his life - yeah, I'm quite sure he doesn't have a clue about the salary cap.

Oh, and he has a team that every "expert" picked to struggle for a playoff spot in a battle for FIRST PLACE IN THE NHL. With the BEST goal against/goals for differential in the NHL (+55).

So the real question here is not about Chiarelli's qualifications as GM, but how stupid some message board posters can be.

They will - his name is Andrew Ference. And Ward isn't going to be out forever.

Want a stud free agent "rental"? Take a look at the Penguins and what they gave up for Hossa. That's worked out really well for them, hasn't it?

I didnt say he was going to be out forever, I said he is damaged goods and gets hurt every week just like he did AGAIN yesterday. He is too long in the tooth and injury prone for you to depend on him.

Renting players when you have a young time like the Bruins do is very dumb. Quite frankly as soon as the Pens got Hossa i thought that the penguins GM should be taken out back and shot, and thats why i instantly ran out and placed a bet with a casino that the Bruins would finish ahead of the pens in the regular season, which they gave me 9-2 odds on, suckers. PC knows what hes doing, everyone complains about Ax being on the first line but who else would you put there? its a tougher question to answer than you might think. You want to send a message to Lucic by sending him down to third line, you can't break up the second line tahts played so well, you want a lefty who can handle physical play, pretty much your only other option is St.Pierre, who lacks the experience to jump up in that roll. I had this debate with my friend the other day and i said "who would you rather play on the first line?" he said "anyone" this continued for about 2 minutes until i finally said give me a name, and he couldn't come up with one. PC has done an excellent job, don't forget he put together a team last year picked by everyone to finish dead last, lost his best player and best goalie, and made the playoffs, the only trade that should be made right now is getting rid of nokki for a draft pick

Yeah getting within 2 wins of winning the Stanley Cup was truly a dumb move. So was getting all your young players Stanley Cup Finals expierence that was idiotic as well. Oh how many playoff round wins did the Bruins have last season?

Pittsburgh won more playoff rounds in one season last year then the Bruins have won in the last 17 years combined.

But they didn't win, did they?. And the question is - where are the Penguins now? And where is Hossa now?

Giving up several solid young players for a "rental" player who skips town at the end of the season is a risk that the Bruins do NOT have to take, thankfully. I really don't want them to give up a combination of Krejci, Wheeler, Sobotka, Rask and Hunwick for some mercenary whose presense and subsequent absense will cripple the team for years to come.

And as noted, it's something they do NOT have to do. They aren't "one player away" from a Stanley Cup run. They can do it with who they have now - there is no need to mortgage the future.

All the GM's in this league ready to unload some of these mercenaries aka rent for play, will wait and wait and see the best offer they can get. Look at Hossa last year how long Atlanta GM waited. The Habs, Ottawa, Toronto and even Philly were looking into getting him. The offers just got higher and higher.
Yes the Pens went to the final , if you ask me by unloading some of your young talent all I want as a fan at that point is the CUP, nothing less.
So what they went to the final but they lost this season completely now.
I'de rather build from our playoff experience we got last year pushing 7 games on the top seed of the east than not winning the cup and ruining your future.
Detroit built a powerhouse by doing just that. Not giving up their talent and let me tell you they were not 1st overall draft picks. You need to grow your talent in todays day n age.
Ride with what we have and then we'll see if something drops into our backyard . Some players will just want to play with you because they believe in the team. Hate to admit but look at Hossa signing for less with the WIngs. Let the coach and GM to their job .

And michwolverine, if you really are a Bruins fan (which I doubt) why don't you take a moment to unbunch your panties, relax and enjoy the ride? What do you want, a 10-0 win every time out? A guarantee that they'll sail through the playoffs? If you really did go to Michigan, Matt Hunwick and Aaron Ward would be ashamed.

Duinne is right, as usual. PC won't trade for a "rental" UFA at the deadline because he has not done so, so far. The key to our success is brilliant young talent, coming up in our own farm system. Everyone on here seems to forget that Ference and Sturm will be back soon. That gives us seven A1 defensemen, or six if Ward is still hurt. And it gives us a top flight goal getter left wing for.....first line?

If you don't like what Duinne is saying, why don't you argue the point rather than call names? Who is the loser here?

Well, other than the fact that I make maybe one game a month if I'm lucky, as I live 100 miles from Boston, so I certainly don't "hang around the parking lot" (heck, I have a hard enough time just finding the Garden); and I've never in my life asked a hockey player for an autograph; and I'm a woman; and I don't own a Bruins shirt, you're quite good at "pointing out the obvious." Thanks for the laugh.

And as others have pointed out (and thank you very much for the kind words, guys), insulting me doesn't do much for your argument. Why not present some facts about the Bruins to dispute me, rather than resorting to personal attacks?

The one thing those previous 20 years had in common was the presence of Harry Sinden/Mike OConnell. I think Chiarelli needs a chance to show what he can do. If it turns out to be same old sh1t then so be it and I'll climb right on the cynic's bandwagon.
A trade for the sake of saying you made a trade would truly be a bad choice.

    G.M. CONCERNS.............

Sinden and O'Connell ruined the team with their erroneous thinking before the lockout. They broke up the greatest line ever assembled by letting Knuble go to Philly. No once could stop the Gorilla line. Rolston, Nylander, the list goes on. It has taken these years to rebuild. At least JJ had the business sense to hire good management this time.

Shouldn't waste my time, but what the hell...

he trades for fernandez and he gives you nothing last year....cost...5 mil..

So Rask gets some valuable experience, and the Bruins make the playoffs, and Fernandez is fine NOW. Last year is over and done with.

blake wheeler was recomended by cam neely.....

If this is true, and who knows, so what? Isn't that Neely's job? Isn't that what you hire people for, to do their jobs?

ryder.... last of the free agents pickings... plus he overpaid in years and salary for him..

Seven game-winning goals already. Some pickings!

plus he overpaid in years and salary for him..schaffer, had to go for ryder

Many GM's would have hung on to Schaefer regardless, because of his salary. Chiarelli was willing to admit a mistake and do what's best for the club. Believe me, this is not common.

he never was interested in hossa..his shills in the media planted that story . he would,nt have the stones to pull of a deal like that!!!!

    Proof?

and he don,t have the stones NOW with bergeron and sturm done... he,s a f**f,ing genius!!!!

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean.

does he have cap money to sign a vet. like shanahan?bet ya he don,t do you think he,s a dealer.... I DON,T THINK SO!!!! ...........

Tell me a team that DOES have the cap space to sign Shanahan (and who would want to, for that matter). Vancouver was the only team that could take on Sundin; the only way someone's picking up Shanahan is by dumping salary. And the Bruins, battling for the top spot in the NHL, just to remind you, aren't going to be that stupid.

These facts tell me to leave the team alone and if it blows up somewhere down the line to the extent that a change in personnel is necessary go for it then. Until then we are on a terrific roll that is the the envy of most every other team in the league and their respective fans. Simply put....the facts speak for themselves.

Agree with FP4877; proof is in the pudding. B's have had some of their best success ever this year. Why screw with it now? I know we have Sturm and Bergy out, but this team is still very capable of winning without them, and they've proved it.

Leave this team as is, unless we lose another key player for the year. The risk of losing the young talent we have or screwing up the obvious chemistry this team has by bringing in a hired gun is not worth it IMO.
