Is it Time for Marchand to Have a New Nick Name?

My suggestion is that Marchand should be called PJ in memory of both PJ Axelsson (who I believe was variously called Gumby and Axey) and PJ Stock. He seems to embody a lot of the qualities of both of his Bruin predecessors - he is undersized, plays the PK, goes where angels (and some much larger Bruins) fear to tread, is not the most prolific scorer, gives 100% on every shift and is generally an agitator. Any thoughts

    Doesnt fit.

    I think they go by

Marshy Soupy and Thorty on that fourth line.

How about Rat 2 or Rat Jr.?  He reminds me a lot of Linseman.

I don't know but I just plain out really love his play this year. Some energy, skill, grit and "RAT" to his game. He is a real breath of fresh air and adds alot to this team. I've said over and over he also is a proven winner (3 consecutive world jr gold medals)

Yup, that's what they call him (and them). He's always been Marshy. Lame, but most hockey nicknames are. Though I'm delighted by the fact that the B's have taken to calling Wheeler "Vheels," because that's how Krejci pronounces "Wheels."

I think Marsy is the type of player that makes up the top level teams- does all the right things to win. Not going to score 40 goals, but will give you great all around team hockey and do all of the little things.

    Loved his game last night.

Marchand is a good name for him.  He's not my buddy, so I don't have a nickname for him.

Agree. nicknames in general are just stupid. Is there really that much of a difference between marchy/marchand or bergy/bergeron or savy/savard or looch/lucic. Is the extra syllable really that much of a hassle

    ROFL.

There are two types of nicknames: The ones players receive from fans/media, and the ones their teammates call them. Sometimes they're the same (Savvy, Looch); sometimes they're different (I really, really doubt that Henrik Lundqvist's teammates call him "King Henrik.").

Either way, nicknames pretty much just happen.
