Bergy will get plenty of PT on that team.  He is not their prototype big scorer with big shot and speed, but he does serve an important role.  When the competition gets better, i think the need for Bergy type players is greater...

Bergy isn't even the #1 center on the Bruins, why would you expect him to be the #1 center on one of the most loaded lineups we've ever seen?

He's a faceoff specialist and will see more time in that roll when it is more impotant (AKA, not 8-0 games)

Bergy only left the line as a result of power plays. He kills penalties and Iggy plays the PP.After scoring a goal Babcock chose to let Iggy remain on the line after the PP.Bergy and Richards teamed up for a goal shortly after so the move worked in a number of ways.

    Re: PC HOPE YOUR WATCHING

Bergeron was on the Crosby line based on history - but his finish wasn't exactly there last night.  Where have we heard that?  Still, he set the tone physically with some big hits and made some really nice plays on that line - as good as any Crosby made prior to Iginla switching in.  I don't expect Bergeron to be the scoring star for that team but I won't be surprised if he gets a key goal her or there and has some kind of impact on every game.  That's not a "spare part" - it's a key role for a versatile player, a role once filled by Dale Hawerchuk and Steve Yzerman.  I'd take either in his prime as our #1 C on March 3rd.

Bruno, I really do sympathize with your frustration.  But there are always limits on what you can do to acquire guys, many of them having to do with who you're trying to trade with.  I think Chiapete will make a move when he feels the cost is worth the benefit, but it won't be just to do something to prove his testicular fortitude.

I'm with Brunod. I look around the league and see one team after another with elite players on their roster. I consider Savard & Chara to be elite, but we need an elite scorer. For eff's sakes PC, get us an effing legitimate goal scorer and KEEP HIM!!! If this team drafts Taylor Hall, and then three years from now when he's a 40 goal man and wants to be paid, they let him walk, I'm gonna be PI$$ED PI$$ED PI$$ED! I'm letting y'all know now.

Wait and see  who will get lotsa icetime late in a game when its a one goal lead for Canada or killing a penalty, hes there for his strengths not our wishes of past offensive stardom.

I think once Babcock saw Bergeron wasn't even close to being in Crosby's league anymore, the move was academic.  I'll be surprised if he gets more than 10 minutes a game, going forward.  Especially against better competition.

    Re: PC HOPE YOUR WATCHING

First of all Brunod I wouldn't put too much weight on anything Pierre McGuire says, he's there for entertainment value. Bergeron played his way on to that team because he is valuable in so many ways. It's already been said, but he is an excellent penalty killer, big time draw man, good in his own end and has the hands to put the biscuit in the net. To call him a spare part shows great misunderstanding of this tournament, and the depth of the stronger teams. Bim also felt it was an "academic" move to seperate Crosby and Bergeron because Patrice couldn't keep up. When Canada plays Norway they are going to tinker with their lines regardless of the score, because they will most likely have a comfortable lead, and line juggling will give Babcock a better idea of what he's working with. Please stop looking for negatives from this tournament and appreciate the Bruins sending 5 players to represent their countries. Canada is among the deepest teams in the the tournament, and Bergeron is a valuable part of that team. Bergeron threw hits, won draws, and set up a gino. Give him a break would ya?

He's a 3rd line center on the worst offensive team in the league.  I was surpised he was even given a shot with Crosby, given his offensive prowess.  Just didn't make sense to me.  He's a defensive foward, not a scoring machine.  And the fact that he's the best player on a team that has the worst offense in the league, should speak for itself.  Put the pom poms down, brah.

Duh.....who in their right mind would assume Bergeron plays much more than 10 minutes on "this team" ?  He's there because he has reliable offensive abilities, and elite defensive and face off qualities.  Regardless of how much he plays, he'll be relied on in certain situations.

    Re: PC HOPE YOUR WATCHING

The less Bergeron plays in the Olympics, the more rested he will be to play for the Bruins stretch run .... sounds good to me. As for PC making a trade to make the B's better this year .... I've heard several GMs say that the price for good players (even just rentals) is steep this year (PC, Capitals GM, and others). If that's the case, hopefully PC doesn't make a trade.

Next year, maybe we have a good player from the draft (Leafs pick hopefully), plus Joe Colborne has been on fire since his hand has gotten better .... thus maybe he'll crack the Bruins lineup next year also. Thus it is conceivable that the Bruins scoring could improve next year without PC even having to make a trade.

Also, hopefully not as many B's will be in the same scoring slump as this year, partly due to players coming from surgeries/injuries (Krejci, Sturm, Savard, Lucic, Bergeron, Chara, Stuart, Ference), or players all having an off year at the same time.

Bergeron is one of the best penalty killers in the league . All teams need that type of player. Richards, Morrow, Toews and Bergeron will help fill that role and still bring some offence to the table. Iginla should be with Crosby and the aforementioned players should be splitting 4th line duties. Weird ,how in the olympics teams can dress that extra forward.

That was kinda snarky wasn't it?
    Sincere apologies.
Feel though, around 10 minutes is all he'll get.  He brings a skill set that is mostly defensive to this team.  Wouldn't read much into the fact he was moved off Crosby's line.

I agree, not much to read into there.  Bergy failed and went from 1st to 4th.  The teenage magic is gone.  Crosby is so far beyond his skill level it was almost painful to watch.

I guess the same was true of Marleau,Thornton,Toews, etc.as they all finished the night with the same stats as Bergeron. You are obviously a genius who knows better than Team Canada's braintrust how to pick a team.Too smart to argue with.

Hey NumbaFouwer, I like and follow the B's as much as anyone, but it must be asked:

WHAT Bruins "stretch run"?  Even if they make the playoffs, WHY would anyone think they're good enough to win more than one round this year?

Therefore, Chiarelli's not going to, nor should he, give up any key assets just to get a rental player who'll be gone forever at season's end.  Any trades he makes will be made more with an eye to the future.

Brunod, rental players are for teams like NJ who are 1-2 players away from winning the Cup, NOT our B's who are 2-3 forwards and 2-3 D away.   Our time will come.

BruinsCountry. The way the East is this year, there could be some surprises in the playoffs. The Caps can have defensive breakdowns, the Devils haven't looked good lately (even with Kovalchuk), the Penguins don't have their magic of last year, the Sens, other than when they were in their streak, the Bruins (Thomas in particlar), kinda have had their number, and the Sabres bubble has burst. Thus upsets could happen this year .... got to have hope. And a "healthy, mentally rested, and determined" Bruins squad can do some damage this year. But I'm with you, I don't want to see key assets given up just for this year.

I am not saying Bergie is a bad player, I was only trying to point out that the Bruins need more skilled players on this team. Bergie has been our best player on most nights but has no skill to work with. Bergie will make some noise with the good players he has around him in the olympics  I am Only saying PC should try harder to fix the teams needs. I realize trades are difficult but we have needed a scorer for sometime to give us a legit 1st line and improve the PP, I also know we don't want to give up assets, but we need help. I only hope PC trys, and go BERGIE you earned it.

Iggy played 2 mins in 1st, he was moved up to first line to spark him not Bergy.  Throughout the game it was commented on Bergy's use on PK and Faceoffs and his high energy.

Bergy is def not just an add-on, he is earning every shift and will continue play effective mins.

He played 12:50 plus 2mins in box, more time than
Morrow, Iginla, Richards, Staal, Getzlaf, with none of the 9:20 of PP time of which Marleau Thornton Heatley Crosby Nash Perry all picked up the extra mins to surpass Berg's time. Toews had extra SH time to pass Berg by 36 secs.

I guess Berg is a limited 13th player eh!

Canada isn't labeling lines.Any line on team is a #1 line.If you pick 1 it is more likely the Shark line than Crosby's.
