    PJ Axelsson

PJ does not appear on the B's website roster.  Is this just an oversight?

Axelsson is terrible.  I can only hope that he's permanantly off the roster.  what did have have last year, 6 goals?  and he is a terrible defensive liability.  Let him go and sign Kessell to a long term deal.

Sorry - I'm no PJ fan by any means - but Defensive liability? That is the only thing he actually brings to the table. PJ is gone - will go back to Sweden to finish off his career.

    PJ Axelsson is a keeper...

PJ is the elder statesman of the team. Do you seriously think management would keep him if he was a liabilty?? PJ plays the soundest of defense period. You can take that to the bank. He is always on the PK. Goals scored are gravy and his shootout backhanded goal last year was a thing of beauty. He is a bargain at his salary and a model citizen; talk w/ anyone who understands the game: PJ fits in any situation on the ice. A true hybrid.

Wow, Nash & Red have never watched hockey before.  Welcome to the community.  We should start a thread to explain what intangibles are.., you know, the stuff that isn't put on the scoresheet.

PJ Axelsson is only the most consistent defensive specialist that nullifies just about anybody he covers.  All his skills are between the ears, and whoever signs him will be getting a solid veteran penalty killer.

And if you want to knock him for scoring 6 goals, that means there are 6 other guys on the roster that weren't doing their jobs if PJ had to.  HE'S NOT PAID TO SCORE YOU NIMRODS!

Why anyone would trash PJ is beyond me, oh wait... I figured it out... you're a Habs fan.

former teammates of his have said he's the smartest player theyve ever played with.  i know it was tough to watch him on the top lines sometimes and even worse to see him on the pp, but he brought more than just a handful of goals.

redfearn you are a meathead in plain english.  first off pj was never signed to be a goal scorer, if you look at the bruins as a whole .... we're not filled with "NHL SUPERSTARS" everyone has a role... and thats whats made them so successful..to say pj's terrible is a pretty pathetic statement... he's one of the best if not the best penalty killer on the team.. its his role.... he's not here to score goals..... he's a grinder.... but he won't put the puck in the net... time for you to take a look at the game of hockey.... stop putting players up on a pedastal .... bruins are a well rounded team. thats why they're so good.  use your brain

Looks like he'll be gone next season.  http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bruins/articles/2009/07/19/nothin_brewin/?page=2 I really hope that he doesn't sign with Montreal.

Probably one of the most under-appreciated Bruins of all time.  Not a single flashy thing about him, and his greatest skill with the puck is knocking if off someone else's stick.  His uncanny ability to read the play and break up an opponent's rush will be missed next season.

Thanks for all of your hard work over the years, PJ.

    Re: PJ Axelsson

try watching PJ instead of the puck.  he doesn't skate in teh defensive zone at all.  he wont put his shoulder into anyone.  and he is a career -26.  If you knew anything, you'd realize that.

and as for not expecting him to score goals, he's a forward;  that's what he's expected to do by definition.  I dont expect Tim Thomas to score becuase he's the goalie, but forwards are expect to score.  You can't win in the NHL without 3 effective lines, and he makes his line ineffective.

    Axe a grinder(LOL)

Couldn't knock over a 3 year old, must have driven Neeley nuts to watch him try to throw his weight around.  Usually way out of position and the puck hit him.

Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn door!

Most consistant defensive  specialist, gimme a break, was this in a beer league we don't know about.

Smartest player they ever played with, may have a good IQ but nothing said about his skills.

Intangibles, his were if he were lucky enough to get caught in someone's feet, tanglebull.

He has been far more appreciated than his just desserts for playing hockey.  He has been appreciated because of what he gives back to the community is the only thing I can't find fault for his game, so happy he is gone.

You are a moron, Axelsson is one of the best penalty killers in the league for the past 10 years. Next you're going to tell me Shawn Thorton doesn't have enough assists.

The people who bash P.J. Axelsson don't understand the game of Hockey at the NHL level. Some of the most important stats don't show up on a score sheet or on the back of a hockey card.
Yes I realize you can't win without goals being scored, However isn't just as important to keep the other team from scoring?
P.J. got placed in places we did'nt want to see him this past year (PP,1st line) he was put there to be a scoring threat, but because he makes no mistakes and is responsible with the puck, and Julian felt he had no other option.

         So Back off the guy!

Axe deserves a gold watch and a retirement package.  he served the team well.

Problem is since the lock out and with new rules and the new thinking you've got to be a big guy or really fast.  I don't see the need for checking forwards as much as the old days.  Penalty killers come Bergeron style now.

Thanks to PJ.  He played with Jason Allison, suffered through watching Blaine Lacher rise and fall.  He did his job and he did it well.

Stats do show up on score sheets hence statistics.  PJ did not get placed against the other teams top players this year, he was placed against the other teams checkers when on our top line, he is a 4th line player and no I don't expect him to be a scoring threat but when the chance is there either bury it or go to the beer leagues, these are pros and I understand they are not infallible, but give me a break, when the opportune arises it should be buried.  I will give him that, he was responsible with the puck but that doesn't rate him the be all end all PK and defensive player of the year. I have said it before he and Yelle were the only 2 with a minus on the team in the playoffs and they are gone. Being on the PK does not count against your +/-.

He may have been a good team guy and a community guy, but I WILL NOT MISS HIM IN A BRUINS UNIFORM.
