Can someone please explain to me why so many people want to see this guy gone? I love watching this guy, and to be honest I think most of the offence this team generates is probably because of Savy.. Idc, if he has a 5M contract or not, this guy is worth keeping, and he seems to be getting better with age..  on another side note, I'd love to see the bruins keep kessel, but i think if you get any natural goal scorer with savard, and you have a deadly one, two punch.. so the loss of Kessel could be ok, with the signing of a natural shooter..  Man would i sure like to see a guy like Alex Semin next to Savy.. I know his defense isnt always there, but id still take semin over kessel anyday..

This team would be lost without Savard.....

i agree.. and you see so many posts on here with ppl saying deal him to loose his salary, hes got the like the 4th higest pt total over the past 3-4 years.. (idk the stats exactly).. i know hes up there in assists too for sure...

I'm so glad someone is finally giving Savard some props.   He is one of the TOP playmakers in the NHL.  He carries this team on the power play and if you followed the B's closely you know that most of their offense is from the PP.

PC needs to keep this guy past this year. 

Not everyone has got used to the idea that Savard is strong defenseively now. The only knock against Savard now is size. It is widely known that every GM dreams of having that one BIG dominant centerman....and Boston hasnt had it since Joe Thornton.

Savards a great player, 4th most points in the NHL last year amongst canadian born players. The thing about savard is that he needs a BIG scorer on his line to be of maximum production. Having a smallish guy like Kessel as the goalscorer on his line doesnt work great because they become a smallish line. A guy like Heatley would be lethal...and I really wish Chiarelli would package Kessel up and get that done.

You are right on about the value of Savard to the Bruins. If Savard was an UFA on July1 he would have been one of the first players snapped up by another team and for more money. He is an elite player and we should thank our lucky stars the Bruins have him.

The only people who want Savard gone are the owners who could
save some money.

Savard is one of the best puck movers in the league, there's no way we will be as successful without him. I didn't think this was a contested idea.

Who? Who wants Savvy gone? I mean the topic obviously had to come up with management but has anyone really heard anything about any serious thoughts of getting  rid of him?

Salary: The only topic that has been coming up for the last year is of whether he will ask for more, etc. Rumors that he has? Haven't heard a thing. he deserves more but loves this team. Will he compromise? I sure as hel hope so.

Size: He may be small but he's tremendous. He's not afraid to take a hit, get down and dirty, etc. He's also a non-retarded version of Avery--what Avery might aspire to if he was sane. In fact I have footage of Savard mocking Carey Price after a tie-breaking goal. He does stuff like that & does it with style. It can be a real b1tch to play against him.




Defense concerns: Those days are gone. He has improved tremendously. Neely was talking about it quite a bit in one of his tv interviews. Julien has also said so on several occasions.

PowerPlay magic: How many times have you watched the puck get to the net, thanks to Savvy, beautiful pass, a missed shot on goal, the puck come back to the net, again, missed shot again, Savvy circling the net with that puck, 2 or 3 huge guys following him, unable to get the puck from him, and boom--the magical pass, and a goal? if you've been watching, you've seen it a whole lot. And not just on the powerplay.

Stand-up guy: Small? Yes. But don't mess with his teammates. He will pursue you.

Discipline & motivation: As Julien once said, he's really hard on himself and doesn't know the definition of giving up. He'll have lost every faceoff in the game, and in the end, when it counts, he'll insist, "coach, put me out there--I'll win this one." And he does.

Locker room: No longer a locker room cancer. This is a team of rejects--in a harmless sort of way. He never got along well anywhere else, granted, but he's great with these guys. You can even see it on the ice.

Irrational reasons to keep him: Apart from all the rational reasons to keep him, let's just admit that he's a pleasure to watch out there. If they trade him I'm going to have to start following 2 teams.


And before I get responses to the effect that this sounds gay, I apologize in advance for being female (hah). I may not have as much teststerone running through my veins but I assure you, I've been following this team through the worst of years and can skate circles around most of you on any outdoor rink :)

 BruinsUnite says it all...... Savard is a wonderful passer and great playmaker with tough attitude. He's a leader and a big mouth !! We need him in the Bruins for longtime.

All bad I can say about him, it's that he sometimes takes bad penalties.....

As a Canadian from Winnipeg, and longtime B's fan, it was dissappointing that Savard was not invited to the Olympic camp, while clowns like Ryan Smyth and Dan Cleary were. He is one of the top centremen in the world, let alone Canada.

Very true, consistantly puts up numbers. He has dedicated to bring his game to a new level every year and continues to do so.

The difference is now that he is playing on a better team his plus minus has come up, it has to when there is a team effort. His being a cancer is BS, he has always wanted to win and has played on a lot of nowhere teams with premadonna's and he doesn't like to play second fiddle. The cup has always been his goal.

Like TT his 5M is a good deal, look at the Sedin twins at 6.1M each, neither is of equal trade value for him. Check his numbers against all the passers in the league and he looks pretty strong at 5M.

I love Savvy.  He plays with more passion than any other player on the team.  He is pissed off every night .

From where I sit (I have ST near the bench) Marc seems to get along very well with the other players on the B's.

He is one of the very best playmakers in the NHL.  If Savvy has another excellent season I hope the B's are able to sign him for a few more years.

Maybe he had issues before...I don't know..IMO he gets better every year and  I believe he will have a number of very good years in the NHL...hopefully in Boston.

I am not sure where you see these anti-Savard comments. He's easily among the top 5 playmakers in the league and the B's best offensive weapon, plus a solid 2-way player thanks to...Julien, who does get routinely bashed by people here...He's as good a passer as Adam Oates was, and a better goal scorer. End of story, the guy is a mainstay.

Its all about the $$$$$$$$$$......if anything was ever said about Savard or other B,s its all a matter of the salary cap & the trouble the B,s are in with it.....the team the B,s have resembled is a great talented team that is locked up because of the cap....i for one question the signing of Thomas to 5 mill a yr...not that he is not good, nor a adaquite goalie for the B,s, but only if the $$$$$ could be used wiser......would you rather have Thomas,Begin, & Reccchi or Rask,Hunwick & Kessel   the salary cap stinks! its a jigsaw puzzle that all pieces dont fit

Cleary is a winger and Savvy is a center....thats why Cleary was invited to the olympic tryout and Savard was left home. Gotta compare apples to apples guys. Canada is sooooo deep down the middle...Crosby, Nash, Thorton, they could ice two teams and be competitive.

Olympic team: Savvy actually said no to them last time they asked asked him to be on the team. So maybe thought he didn't deserve another chance.

This is not why Savard was left home.  In an article in the herald, Yzerman says mainly that he never skates for Canada at the World Championships and this is a payback...Too bad for Canada-Savvy is a hell of a player!

Savard has NEVER turned down team canada and never would. I dont know a canadian player that ever has unless it was world cup and they just finished a long nhl season.

The one and only reason you dont see savard on the team is that he is a centerman and thus would have to outdo the likes of guys like Crosby, Lecavalier, Thornton, Getzlaf....just not gonna happen. Trust me he would be on a top two line on team USA or any other world team for that matter.

No Canadian has ever said no to not being on the Olympic team, maybe to the World Championships and I doubt that unless he was injured.
It is a numbers game and the Canadians are very deep at center.
Cleary was invited because he is a Red wing pure and simple. He did play a very good playoff with a couple of good linemates.

Yes Savard has said no to playing in the world hockey championships.

Don't get me wrong everybody....I think Savard should be on the team in Vancouver because he is an amazing setup man and reads the ice so well.  I was just responding to the post about Cleary and just bringing up the fact that you cannot compare the two positions....Cleary is a winger and a defensive specialist who had a great year in Detroit and I think he deserves a look.  Not sure if Savvy said yes or no to either the olympic team or the national program but I am sure that Yzerman would want to ice the BEST team possible... regardless of politics!!  Tough choices have to be made by people with a whole lot more hockey knowledge than I have seen posted here!!  hahaha  I am sure they have good reasons for naming the players they did.  Good luck to team Canada in 2010 and go Bruins!!
