    Wideman - norris trophy candidate?

Am I making too big of a leap to suggest this or is he a legit candidate?

    Wideman - norris trophy candidate?

I think their partial against offensive defenseman (except for players like Pronger). As an offensive specialist, I think its an uphill battle for him. BUT, as long as we acknowledge that he has been superb!! He's probably the most underrated offensive defenseman in the NHL right now. He's also a HUGE reason we're in first place.

Wideman is just SICK. His passing skills are unbelievable, he's good for puck movement, keeping us in the attacking zone, and he can shoot the puck. I love Wideman, but the powers that be usually favor your rough & tough type defenseman when handing out the Norris trophy.

The concept is not laughable though. Did I mention that I f-ing LOVE D-WIDE!

Not Norris material just yet...probably most improved player of the year though....only area of concern with Wideman , he can be too fancy in his own end....Big Z for the norrris !!!

Dennis Wideman is NOT a Norris Candidate.

He had a great start, has been a nice player offensively and moving the puck, but his play in his own end has been VERY inconsistent (though better of late).

The Norris is Zdeno Chara's to lose. It won't even be close.

MTLBRUINSFAN , nail right on the head.

Id just like to add that even though Wideman can get a bit fancy in his own end (which takes him out of the Norris hunt), hes still a huge reason we're in first place.

Wideman is a younger faster version of Brian Rafalski. Thats the only guy i can compare him to.

    Wideman - norris trophy candidate?

I disagree with the above posts.
Although Wideman can be a bit fancy, he has the added mobility to go end to end that Chara does not have. He is also more offensive and has a better +/-, wlthough doesnt go head to head with opposing top lines like Chara.

Bottom line: Wideman should deserve mention as he has better numbers than Chara. Since speculation surrounds big names he will never get mention. But dont let that throw you. Wideman has been one of the top ten defenseman in the league this year, from start to now..

This is too funny.. not long ago Bruins Fans had their shorts in a knot over trading of Boyes for some unknown guy no one ever heard of in Wideman.. PC was getting ripped from all four corners...Now he is in discussion for the Norris :) .. hilarious..

    Wideman - norris trophy candidate?

Wideman is playing upto what fans expect for his big money contract he just signed in the offseason. Maybe even exceeding it for what mobile D go for these days. Ryder is another guy living upto his price tag. Mix that with all the guys exceeding their pricetag (Kessel, Krejci, Thomas, Lucic, Wheeler) annnd you realize its now or never. Sens went to the finals two years ago, look at them now...

Good call - he should be considered for the norris. It was a total disgrace that he was not on the All Star team. It will be shame, but odds are he will be unsignable by the Bruins next year. He will likely fetch in the $5 to $6M range. I would rather they let Chara go and keep Wideman

You kidding me..he leads the league in the plus/minus. When you control the puck as much as he does - yea you will have the odd blunder in your end. He is the main reason the B's are the best team at moving the puck out of their and that is where the games are lost and won

Dragging up an old post can sometimes be relevant...
At least I see the same complaints about him back when he was hot property.
