Incidental but still suspendable. Ference has upped his game and I love the edge the guy plays with at times. If Dougie can get a bit of that nasty in the long run he will be a beast. In the short term, I hope he can fill in well. As soon as Ference comes back, I want Dougie back in street clothes. What a great luxury to have.

He has been suspended before hopefuly he will not get more than 1 game.

You've got to love Ference in a series like this. After Orr crosschecks Boychuck

from behind Ference grabs Orr he has balls not a lot of players would do that!

It a head-on 50/50 play, so would be shocked if it's more than 1 game.  Still a shot to the melon.

Ference being out will muck up the pairings a bit, and would likely force Seidenberg back to the left side.

Not an elbow at all.  Clean hit and Grabo's body looked like it took the brunt of the hit, not his head.  Academy Award nominee though

An opinion worthy of someone in need of a seeing eye dog.

You saved me the time of posting.  Spot on.  Actually Grabo pulled up, Ference's head was downward attempting to control the puck when he braced for what he thought was going to be a check.  Ference's elbow definitely hit Grabo's head.  Who knows how many games?  One maybe two.  Despite the negativity on these boards on Ference's play, he is far better on defense than his replacement, Hamilton.  Playoff hockey!

Finally saw the replay.  I would think a suspension is reasonably likely.  If that had happened with his arm right by his side, it would have been fine; it's the raising it that will draw scrutiny.  I believe Ference's last suspension was long enough ago to prevent him from being a repeat offender.

It was as blantant elbow to the skull as it gets. Shanny gives Andrew a call. If he doesn't get a game I'll be shocked.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/ go to the quiz & look at it again in slow mo. Moves his arm & the main point of contact is the head.

Thing is Shanny has already given him a call a few years back when something similar (to the shoulder) he did to Halpern with the Habs.  Only reason I think he might get a game.

Yeah i think your last suspension has to be within one calendar year of your last incident under the curent CBA to be considered a repeat offender.  Likely a one game suspension.  Keep your elbows down!

    18 months.

       (c) Status as a "first" or "repeat" offender shall be
re-determined every eighteen months, on a rolling basis, i.e.,
where a player does not have another suspension for 18 months,
his next suspension will be treated as a "first" offense.

When Grabo pulled up he lowered himself causing the head shot.  If he went in like Ferrence went in it would have been shoulder on shoulder.  Don't know what will happen but I wish players would go in the corners and make themselves less vulnerable.

    lol...exactly.

It is what it is and he will likely get 1 game.

Could have been worse for the B's had Marchand connected with his Babe Ruth impression.

That's not really true. You shouldn't lead with your elbow at all and any contact with the head should make it a major.

    Rule 45 - Elbowing

45.1 Elbowing - Elbowing shall mean the use of an extended elbow in a manner that may or may not cause injury.

45.2 Minor Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a minor penalty, based on the degree of violence, to a player guilty of elbowing an opponent.

45.3 Major Penalty - A major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee, shall be imposed on any player who uses his elbow to foul an opponent. A major penalty must be imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent (see 45.5)

    Okay, let me re-phrase it.

Guys get elbowed in the chest/upper body all the time without calls.

As soon as an elbow hit a head, it's bad, bad news.

Re: ?? What? League to review elbow to Grabo's head by Ference ??

I do not believe there should be suspensions for unintentional acts - except for having control of your stick at all times.

In the definition of the Elbowing rule above its says 'the use of an extended elbow...'

    To me, that means intentionally.

Ference's arm/elbow moved away from his body, perhaps trying to cushion the impact from the incoming checker.

So, the question is: was it intentional (in an effort to hit Grabovski with the elbow)?

If AF says it was unintentional and Shanny believes it was, there should not be a suspension/fine. Otherwise it is coincidental contact with the bigger player usually getting the short end of the stick.

    We shall see soon enough.
