No one has taken Subban.  Couple of reports were saying that if Boston was interested, they'd have to take him at 60 because he probably wouldn't last to 90.  Still on the board as I type.

PCs looked to the East at his European staff.

Is it me or does it look like the Bruins drafted Peter Chiarelli - just spelled in Slovakian.

Not to give him any ideas, but I'm waiting for BadHab's alternate universe draft where we lament that they didn't take Subban.

If he's still there at 90 they should take him.

I think they took him to pi55 off the Shabs.  I can just picture Bergevin thinking "I should take him so WE have two Subbans and not the Bruins...heh heh heh..."

I have a theory on the Euro trend.

Bruins will likely be close to the contracting limit - somewhere in the 43 contract range right now with probably three or four pro signings yet to come.  They could only have 50 under the old CBA, and I doubt that changed.

Teams maintain exclusive neg. rights with Europeans playing in Euro pro leagues for more than the 2 years they get on NA Jrs.  PC giving himself some flexibility and extending his pool of assets.

Ditto for Fitzgerald - four years at BC ought to do the trick.

"Fitzgerald wins Prospects MVP in front of NHL dad"

    Ryan Fitzgerald

He is committed to attending Boston College in the fall.

    • Fitzgerald was named Eastern Junior Hockey League Rookie of the Year in 2012-13 after tallying 30 points (14-16--30) in 26 games for the Valley Jr. Warriors and was honored with the John Carlton Award, given annually to top student hockey players in the Boston area. As a member of Team McClanahan at the 2012 All-American Prospects Game, he registered three assists and was named Most Valuable Player.

    • Fitzgerald won back-to-back Division 1A championships with Malden Catholic High School in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

    • His father, Tom, suited up for seven NHL teams (NY Islanders, Florida, Colorado, Nashville, Chicago, Toronto and Boston) during an 18-season career and is now the assistant to the general manager of the Penguins."

OK, with Ryan Fitzgerald I should be able to gather something about the kid.  I know a lot of people in the N Reading hockey system.

Following Twitter much of the day, check this one out:

    Kevin Paul Dupont @GlobeKPD 3m

My read: Bruins worked vy hard to deal Seguin, 29 other teams disinclined.

    Anyone else agree?

Here's a weird element to the draft: what's happened to the Czechs and Slovaks?  Always tier 1 in international competition and lots of top NHL talent from their programs, but the Czechs didn't have a player drafted until the fourth round, and Slovak Peter Chiarelli is the only draftee from the home of Chara.  Austria and Switzerland have represented better with three first rounders between them and two picks each so far.

The KHL spectre continues with only 6 Russians going through four rounds.

That makes a ton of sense.

@Crowles - I disagree that PC heard from or discussed Seguin with 29 teams. I does conform to me that rumors are true that the Bruins brass are done with his partying around Boston.

@BadHab - Ryan played a Mass. powerhouse Malden Catholic not in N. Reading.

That's not what I heard.  I heard PC's phone was ringing off the hook until Horton wanted to test the market, then the phone stopped ringing because everyone realized the Bruins had cap space.

This seems to be part of a trend that's been going on for a while.  I suggested to my wife that it might be because there's no longer a cultural impetus to try to beat their Soviet oppressors the only place the could - on the ice - so fewer children are growing up lacing them up.  She told me Slovakia is still hockey crazy.  There does seem to be something going on.
