    24 team Stanley Cup playoffs

USA Today has an article on a 24 team playoff this season.

    I like the idea.

Interesting. Not sure how well that would work.

Given the short schedule and modified playoff should be considered.  I am not sure of 24 teams, 16 teams with the top two teams of the conferences receiving byes in the first round.  The regular season is a joke in October and November for the most part, yet a 48 game schedule is not really a true test for a regular season.  So why not think out of the box for this year's playoffs.

For the six teams that don't make the playoffs in that scenario, do they at least get a day with the Cup, you know, so they won't feel bad?

At that point you might as well have all 30. Not crazy about the idea, then it seems even less like a season than it already would be.
