What good hand did you have? I lost $2500 one nite on a straight flush at a casino in Calgary! Haven't played a serious game of poker since. IF you can't win on a straight flush, someone is trying to tell you you're not supposed to be playing poker. lol

It can happen easy enough if 4 runners are already on board and you've got the card on the low end.

Totally disagree Koko does have the highest Potential but Spooner is a much better player right now and is much closer to being NHL ready.   At this point no one can say if Koko will reach his potential.  His 2 goals and 5 assists in 26 KHL games make me think there is some bust potential.

Nope! I lost it fair & square. I went all in & the other guy had the higher cards. Mind you he got it on the river card, so he was the one doing all the gambling! I got mine on the flop.

Koko and Spooner on the same team? I don't think so, unless the Bruins are planning on revamping their entire approach, which they're not. One or the other will be traded eventually, and I assume it's Koko. No reasonable offer that can solidify the team this year should be refused.

    Explain...

They might move prosepcts, they might not, why have you decided one scenario can't happen?

The Bruins team philosophy does not lend itself to small (5' 10", 180 lbs), offensive-minded forwards. The team approach is defense-out, and that is generally more easily accomplished with bigger bodies, or naturally defensive-minded players. From what I understand, neither of these two players are primarily defensive, nor are they particularly "tough", and so would not fit into the team's philosophy. Although I admit I haven't seen much of either, Koko seems to be more purely offensive, and less eager to change in that regard. If they can get a legit NHL 2-way depth forward for the stretch run, I think they should/would take it.

    Just my $0.02.

Well seriously...Why bring up a name that isn't of the same niche' of a particular player to base your arguement? So if you're knowledgeable enough to know the distiction of the two why mention it?

Because its relevant. Big name, high profile player that was recently acquired by a team that had a similar playing style as the Bruins. They aren't the exact same type of player but they are both counted on for scoring. I fail to see how you don't notice some parallels there. Not too mention it wasn't really an argument, I was just poking fun for the sake of debate, hence the smiley face. I never said Perry and Nash are the same player, they are similar in the sense that they are both all-star calibre players though.

OK! I apologize I didn't see the smiley face & this is a better explanation. Honestly I'd take either Nash, or Perry, but not for the amount of money they asked, or will be asking for. I would however give up a Khokhlachev & draft picks & a Peverly, or Horton if it could bring in a Perry, or a Ryan. Even if is was just a rental, because any of these guys would be a big help for a cup this yr.

    In response to Bookboy007's comment:

Are you kidding?  Right now, Khokhlachev is a lighting it up on a bad team.  Seth Griffith has scored just as effectively all season on a much more competitive team, but I haven't seen anyone say he's untouchable.  If Anaheim said Khokhlachev, Tommy Cross and a first to rent Perry for the playoffs, you do that deal because you're adding a Hart-calibre player for a playoff run without subtracting anything from you lineup.

Anaheim would not be so stupid, but if they were, you'd be even more stupid not to jump and run to the fax machine.

Agreed.  This player is not untouchable.  He probably isn't a throwaway either.

If we got a modern day Kobasew/Kelly/Peverley type for him I would feel it was justified.  I have Koko behind Spooner currently and ahead of Knight on our prospect depth chart.

Surprisingly I think maybe Knight is untouchable.  Mostly because selling low is bad business.  I don't think you can net a third line caliber player, even a rental, so why not play out the hand.

The reason Koko came back to juniors was because the Bruins asked him to. They wanted him to get used to playing on the smaller ice surface again.

And sure I'd trade Koko. Just not for a rental. But for someone who'd be with the Bruins for more then a few months.

That's what stocking the system is all about. Sometimes a GM has to dip into it to get what he wants from other teams.

I also know his numbers were down in the KHL.  There was concern that he may not be ready to play with grown men yet.  I bring this up because if it is true, it means the choice he made was between Pro and Junior not Russia and NA.  We will find out when he is ready for the show, whether or not it is important to him to play in the best hockey league in the world.

The following has no bearing on the current topic.  If people are ready to discuss this maybe we can start a new thread.  For right now I am under the impresion it is just a silly question.

[Was just thinking, could the NHL and KHL have one playoff series with the Stanley Cup Winner vs there Champion?  Schedules would need to be adjusted.  It would never become one league.  Just a 7 game series to prove who is the best of the best.  Now it is no question who would win, but in 10 years it might be one of the great international sporting events.]

I think talent will always rise to the top.  No doubt the Bruins have been successful to develop players with an eye on size and two-way play, but talent comes first.  If they didn't see Koko and Spooner fitting into the system they wouldn't have drafted them.

I'm not saying they are destined to stay in Boston, and I favor using prospects to trade for useful pieces sometimes, but if Koko and Spooner continue to develop and excel, I think management will be happy to find a place for them in Boston.  Toughness, size, and two-way play are easier to find than high end skill.  Who knows what'll happen at this point though...?
