There's nothing wrong with being above average in all aspects.

No, there's nothing wrong with it.I just don't think it's an award for average in all aspects. It's the same argument i use against Toews for the MVP... You really have to be hands down the best at something to win, and Suter isn't one of those guys. There's never a situation where I would say, given the option of all other NHL players "You know who I want to see right now on the Ice? Ryan Suter. There's always a better player for whatever situation you find yourself in.

Suter leads the entire league in ice time. He's the first guy the coach wants on in every situation. Subban might be great on the PP but he watches PK's from the bench. He's got 12 points at even strength. I want the best D-man to excel in his own end. I'm not looking for a guy who's adequate defensively.

TOI is an important stat, I'll acknowledge that.

P.k. averages 1.4min/60 killing penalties, suter 2.09. It's a difference, but it's not like PK doesn't kill penalties at all.

He's 6th among Habs D-men so he doesn't kill them much.

    Subban SH-TOI: 60:11 (118th amoung NHL D-men)
Suter SH-TOI 101:25 (64th in the NHL amount NHL D-men):

that's the way you look @ it IMO.

In total PK TOI, Subban is fifth.

    Ahead of him:

Davis Drewiske got most of his PK TOI while playing in LA.  He's a regular scratch these days.

Emelin and Gorges are very good shutdown defensemen and rarely play on the powerplay.

Not many people can explain Therrien's use of Markov this season.

He's been a steady 6th all year so he must be seeing his time jump up.

I'm not sure how that's possible.  They just got Drewiske recently.

Did they go with 1 less D-man until Drewiske showed up or something? Subban spent most of the season 6th in average PK ice per game. I'll take your word for it that he's vaulted his way to 5th.

Wait and see what happens in the playoffs.  Again. He had more ice time 2 yrs ago in that series then any player.  Chara included.  2 more sleeps until its the most wonderful time of the year.

Late start to playoffs is throwing me off. Bruins were already eliminated at this time last year.
