Bruins 4th line: Marchand, Campbell, Thornton

Gotta give the 4th line tons of credit for their exceptional play so far all season.  They have been physical, aggressive, and have created plenty of offensive opportunities.

I will be the first to admit that I was highly critical of Thornton and the 4th line last season.  They didn't produce much and they made plenty of mistakes in their own end.  I also never bought into the 'energy line' label.

This season, Campbell and Marchand have really gelled with ST.  All 3 have played very well- they are creating plenty of scoring chance, their forecheck has been unrelenting and 2 of the 3 have been willing to mix it up when necessary.

The improved play of this line is a key part of the early success of the B's !!!

    Keep it up boys!

Mmmm, I dunno, shouldn't Julien shorten the bench and not put those fourth-line guys out there when the Bruins need a goal?

Over the course of the season, there will be nights where your checking line is your best line/highly effective. It happens to every team.

    Game 7 is another story.

Also, Campbell scored  a goal that was called back for off-sides... every member of that line should have had a goal last night.

Heres a question.  If the "fourth" line plays more than the third line, are they still the fourth line?  What if they get more goals, more fights and take more faceoffs too?

Re: Bruins 4th line: Marchand, Campbell, Thornton

Good question bluefox.  On most teams the 4th line intends to stir the pot and let the other 9 forwards rest. Marchand/Campbell/Thornton are out there to stir and score. Marchand is getting more comfortable and using his very good wrist shot; Campbell mixes it up, rips it up and forces turnovers; Thornton is still flailing all over the rink, but has had better control of his shots even though he passed up a very open Seguin and still scored. Don't know if that is a perspective to encourage or correct. The Bruins centers are more adept at feeding passes, so maybe wings should just shoot. So far this line has performed better than previous 4th lines and all to the benefit of the bruins.

Re: Bruins 4th line: Marchand, Campbell, Thornton

Claude Julien imo does not have definite 1st line, 2nd line etc. He has 4 lines that play the entire game except in pp and sh situations where a few specialist players get to be on the ice

This is proven by the fact that he has actually started the so called 4 line for the start of many periods and other crucial situations.

Marchand, Campbell and Thornton line has been arguably the best line for us thus far. They are not suppose to score points but they have been and have been nothing short of playing brilliant shadow defense against opposing star lines.

Re: Bruins 4th line: Marchand, Campbell, Thornton

Marchand really stood out to me last night.  Campbell and Thornton are playing great considering their role and limited upside but Marchand appeared to almost be outclassing them at times.  That line was generating chances pretty much every shift.  His speed and hands were that of a top 6 forward last night.  If he keeps playing at that level it might be time to consider moving him up with more talented offensive players.  The chemistry is great at the moment so not sure now is the time.

Once Savard and Krejci are fully recovered the Bs should only play them 10 minutes cause the 4th line is sooooo good.?!  One positive is CJ is playing the kids, that is positive for the playoffs, a supposition without superstitution.
