Bingo NAS, and he is intelligent...although it is difficult to statistically prove better than Don Sweeney.   Small smart players both.

Since many have opted on stats to determine Ference's contributions there's missing one stat, someone should check the Bruins record when he's in the lineup and when he's not in the lineup.
I think he's pretty good leader and mentor for guys like McQuaid , probably even Boychuk.
I would give him 2-3 year extension. Should sign for a reasonable amount.
Of course ya know he likes it in Boston ; )

I remember reading about the Bruins record with and without Ference at the time of last extension.

He plays second or third pairing minutes most nights, is not a powerplay guy and is not a top PK guy.  I don't think a lot of games are won or lost due to Ference being great at his job.

He seems to have put the groin issues behind him. If they can extend him for 2 years at under 3mil I'd be mighty pleased.
Unspectacular but a smart and reliable presence on the back end. All teams need players like him on the roster. The B's know exactly what they're getting, he likes it here...Do it.

He doesn't compare to Don Sweeney.  Sweeney was a cerebral player, a loyal Bruin, hardly ruffled any feathers,  but never played with the edge that Ferrence has.

Ferrence has a way of getting under opponent's skin whether it is intentional or not.  In short, he is a little crazy.  Cases in point...

He can pisz fans off...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjF9-rns5Ng.

He can piszoff the media...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpCfulC1fFk

He hits guys when they're down...

He might give a guy a little shot when he is not looking...

Above all, he sticks up for his teammates without regard for his own safety....  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgVuFYLFicc

He has also fought Crosby, so he can clearly get under the skin of the other team's best players.
