Ryan Murphy is blowing away the coaching staff at Carolina ..his skill level if off the freakin charts..Bruins should have grabbed this kid!!!
Mean while, we have some lanky 'project' in Hamilton who may or may not ever play on the Bruins..
Murphy has tons of skill, skating , slap shot, powerplay, he is going to have a super all star Hall of Fame career - and that you can take to the Bank!!! -

I guess now that we won the Cup without kessel you need to start on another player the Bruins dont have. Just what we need, an undersized d-man who has potential offensively but is horrible defensively. I'd take Hamilton any day of the week especially with the style of hockey played in Boston. Murphy may make Carolina this year but wouldn't have a shot in Boston. Can you imagine the mess if he was paired with Kaberle. -

I am not entitled to my opinion? Don Cherry even said Ryan Murphy should have gone # 1- I guess Don is not credible enough for you ? This is like a cult . Either you go along with everyone or you are shunned upon. YOu all S U C K !

When Dougie Hamilton became available at the #9 spot - Brian Burke's white hair turned whiter. Relax. Hamilton will be a Bruin next season. -

Hamilton a lanky project ? Great, we have another soccer boy who knows diddly about what he's talking about . I thought Hamilton was worthy of being the 2nd player from the OHL to be picked in the draft. A possible top 5. Didn't happen. Maybe I should read more of your posts so I'm more in tune with these players. -

Once again Cactus rears his HAB itual commentary which is always consistently anti-Bruin. We can all smile all the way to the bank with Chiarelli's pick of Hamilton who will probably arrive as Ference's replacement next year or the following year. -

haha I thought of that right after I clicked..Oh well, but i cant stand this guy, he says the same thing every time, he cant even be creative or funny...give him a few he'll be writing how the powerhouse flyers will be ruining the b's opening night cup ceremony. oh and we'll probably be able to "take it to the bank"...
I did it again!!!!!!!!!! -

I honestly think that when all is said and done, we'll look back at tis draft and consider Hamilton and possibly Scheifele to be the two steals of the first round going where they did. Nothing but confidence in Hamilton's long term potential. I mention Scheifele because even though he was picked well ahead of his ranking, the kid is improving so quickly that he could be in the bigs this season andI would not be at all surprised if he ends up as the best player of the 2011 draft class. I think these two kids were the best picks of the draft given the two draft positions. -

And Murphy's agent CTony gets him a contract.
Offensively he's ready. Defensively it will be interesting to see how he fares if he makes the Canes. Will his lack of strength and size be a detriment in his own end ?

Carolina is being blown away by a d man.. the same carolina that just signed kaberle..
If hamilton was playing there he'd look alot better as well, just like if seguin had played with edmonton.. A lot harder to stand out on a good team. -

With NHL power forwards like Milan Lucic, Chris Stewart, and Nathan Horton Ryan Murphy is going to be in for a long year.
He may end up just like a MA Bergeron PP Specialist offensive DMAN. I prefer Hamilton 10x over Murphy. Big, Tough, Smart, Extremely Physical and he's learning from Big Z. While small offensive Dmen see Wideman and Hunwick never panned out here I think that Hamilton will fit in perfectly. -

I, for one, am interested to see what Murphy has got. I read up on him and watched some highlights pre-draft when they were saying he was potenially going to the Bruins and he does look pretty legit offensively.
Always tempting to dream big with a talent like his. I love that we got Hamilton and am confident that he will work out, but there aren't a lot of defenseman capable of playing ppg hockey.
Just another good storyline to watch for this year. NO way the Bruins "Blew it" though. It was the third piece of the Kessel trade that we clearly won and we got yet another top tier prospect. -

Cam Fowler seems to be doing just fine, the last really hyped offensive d man.. -

Plus minus is a flawed stat - that's just a fact - but...it does have it's uses. When a player is -25, worst on his team by 7 goals and 43 goals worse than the best player on the team (Visnovsky at +18), I think it's legit to wonder if he's a net asset in acquiring his 40 points. Given that he was a rookie, though, I have to think you tolerate his defensive shortcomings in the hope he improves faster for playing at the highest level.
Fowler's also got about 20 pounds on Murphy, and Fowler's no bruiser. -

There is a size difference yes, but depending on where you look its 2-4 inches 15-20 pounds.. but you mentioned dennis wideman, matt hunwick, both along the same size lines as fowler.. More appropriate though, hunwick and wideman were not high first round picks because of their offensive game, more my point..
Kevin Shattenkirk is a better comparison size wise, and he had a great first season as well.. -

I love how I read this literally 5 minutes after I read this from a legitimate hockey blog: Carolina Hurricanes: Just before camp opened, the Hurricanes signed 2011 draftee Ryan Murphy. Jim Rutherford says he could push for an NHL spot. I say that doesn't speak too well to their defensive prospects this season... -

Ryan Murphy is like Taylor Hall. Any forward can make the Oilers just like any defenseman can make the Canes. The DEFENDING STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS can take their time with Hamilton and he should ready for the NHL in a couple of years. -

He does have 2 inches and 20 pounds on Murphy. That said, I could see Murphy doing well right away. He's got a great skill-set.
