Just came across the wire .. Sabres have asked Jason Pommenvile for a list of 8 teams he would not want to be traded to...weird as it may seem.. This guy would be awesome pickup for the B's and solve a bunch of problems...

JP would be a nice pickup, but he is not UFA and has a  big cap hit!

The B's have the room... Take your pick... Savard's LTR or Thomas' expired contract... According to cap geek only $5.3M cap hit... No problem either when they dump Ference and Thornton next year As well....

1 trade between Buffalo and Boston in 39 years---the Paille deal.  Time to move on from Buffalo.

To me any talk of boston and buffalo doing a deal is a waste of time. Just can't see those teams doing any trade that is earth shattering.

I think if the deal is good for your team - you make it regardless of the division..that is the GM's (and his scouts) primary job - make your team better!

IMHO this whole notion that a 'player will come back and haunt you' is a load of crap...

They do this season...but only next season if they make some lineup changes.

Vanek is amazing and better than any of the players that have been speculated to come here over the years.  But he's probably too expensive for next season when the cap goes down and some salaries go up.

You can thank Lowe (Sather jr.) for that.

Re: BUFFALO READY TO WHEEL AND DEAL??

Right on with making the best trade possible to help your tean no matter where it comes from. Your ultimate goal is to be better and win the cup. If the B's put Savard on LTIR then they have about 10 million in cap space more than enough to handle Pominville and perhaps a player like Glencross from Calgary or Ribeiro from Washington(both have been productive scorers this season) plus a additional D man. Management has to work it out and restore the aggressiveness of this  team  In the Buffalo game  14 of the 22 shots on goal at the end of the second period came from the defense.  Two of the  offensive shots came from Pando and one each from Thornton and Paille and no shots from any of the 4 Centers.  Where are they going in the playoffs with performnances like that?

Agreed. Most GMs will think this way, too. Obviously it's more difficult to trade within the division, but Boston's dealt with Ottawa (Kelly), Buffalo (Paille), Toronto (Kaberle, some draft picks that one time), Montreal (way back for Weinrich I believe?). They've made inter-conference trades with the Caps, Bolts, Hurricanes, Islanders, Panthers, Thrashers/Jets all in the past 3 years or so.

None of the name players in these deals were top flight, with the Kessel deal being the exception. But, they were depth trades and those can still happen within the Adams Div.

In other words, Vanek isn't walking through that door, but Ott or Ennis might. As a very, very longshot, perhaps Buffalo parts ways with the struggling Ehrhoff or Stafford for the right return.

Exactly.  No room at all next season.  I think PC needs to go after UFAs only.

I think that was his original plan when he put a bid on Morrow and then went after Iginla.

It will be an interesting couple of days....
