    Buyout Window Closing--B's on clock

The buyout window shuts for good at 5pm on June 30 and the Bruins have yet to use their allotment of two.  With the team in need to sign Krug and Reilly Smith and having 1.67 mill in current cap space (~5.7 million after Savard LTIR money), do the B's use 1 or 2 get of Cap Hell Free Card(s) available to them.

    Some candidates:

Kelly---seems the most obvious at 3 million. (6 million for 2 years)

Chara---6.9 million (~21 million over next 3 years but a cap friendly hit of 4 million in year 4).  Much like Tampa did with Vinny's contract.  He's still a Norris Candidate of course.

Boychuk-- ~3.36 million.  Would be better to trade for future assets.

    Loui---4.25 million (~9.5 over 2 years)

    Others?  None?

Seems like the new cap has forced the Bruins hand.

I don't see any of them being bought out and why would Chara be a candidate?

Wow, we have different lists! I don't think Kelly can be bought out because he is on IR.

Same reason Tampa bought out Vinny.  It surely would not be a popular move but Chara is not exactly cheap. They could perhaps sign another Top 4 D-man and a Top-6 forward with the money they would save + the Savard money.  Bummer about Kelly and his IR status.  The B's have to open up some money somehow.  The buyout calculator has the B's saving 5.083 million over the next two years if Chara is bought out.

the only buyout that would have any impact would be Eriksson, but it ain't happening....

"The buyout is definitely something that could be called a mulligan for a GM trying to shed a contract," said Chiarelli. "But we don't plan on using any of our buyouts at this time."

Unless PC has changed his mind I don't see it.

That's the thing with ole JJ.    You'll never see him "spend'.  The Bruins would never excercise a buyout, simply to become more competitive.   They probably won't use Savards money.  They can't save any face, and spend below the mandated cap.  JJ's Bruins won't be looking at creative ways to circumvent the cap ceiling.

    Loui---4.25 million (~9.5 over 2 years)

Chiarelli would never buy out the centerpiece of the Seguin deal.

    Others?  None?

None. I am not positive Jacobs would be willing, even if there was one. Remember Peverley?

Seems like the new cap has forced the Bruins hand.

Every team has to play under a cap system which makes it tough to stay on top.

Would be great if PC could move Kelly.  Recovering his $3M would really help.

They're up against the cap.  They're going to put Savard's money on the back burner and exceed the cap.

    So stupid.

Re: Buyout Window Closing--B's on clock

They got creative and exceeded last year's cap by $4.7M; that's a big part of this year's problem.

If they don't use buyouts, it's because they don't have stupid contracts no one will take.  Every player on this roster would find a home with their current deal.  Every last one, Kelly included.  So buyouts are not really a smart choice - why pay a guy not to play for you and get nothing for him when someone will give you something - even a B prospect - and take on the salary?  Even if you had to Sturm someone, it's better than a buyout.

Well I thought maybe Kelly but it sounds like due to his injury he can't be., Loui may be a good candidate but if he's as good as some say that wouldn't help and we know they'd never do that until they see him another season..It's been said that they could get rid of any player on their roster without a buyout even Kelly. It's only my opinion but I don't think they could give away Kelly or even Loui especially coming off their injury plagued seasons..

    Or maybe Trotman.

He's in Providence and he was a draft pick, therefore, he's ready.

Then buyout a winger and insert the low cost Knight.

Then buyout Rask and insert nite.

Bingo.....this is what is likely to happen. Of course, the two most likely candidates for this, Kelly and McQuaid, are still on IR and can't be moved.

Guys can be traded while hurt.  Remember Kessel?  So long as there's a doctor to assure the other team that the player will be back to playing shape.

IR is for the regular season, it is not the regular season and playoffs. Kessel was recovering from surgery during the off-season. Phil was traded during the off-season and Kelly be traded. I saw nothing in the new CBA that restricts a trade, of a player recovering from surgery, during the off-season.
