Can we get and do we want Mike Green?

Something's gotta happen in Washington. Maybe Washington could be enticed to move Green for something. They would want immediate help and a replacement so I am not sure if we could get something done (maybe if we still had Stuart as a chip), but would be interesting to see if Washington would consider moving him.

There's quite a bit of support for the idea of trading Green amongst the Caps fans I speak to and the radio I hear.

ahhhhhhhhhhhahahahahhahahahaha....mike green? wait your serious? ummm okay, lets look at a trade PC would consider, how about mike green and 2 first round picks for the rights for kaberle...nope were giving them too much, mike green and 3 first round picks for a 7th round pick. maybe they could trade green to NYI for yashin?

I would say no too.  The Bruins system really seems to rely on responsible d-men and I don't see how Green would fit into that system.  Because of his stats, I bet he will get more $ than he deserves, and I don't want the Bruins overspending on a guy who stinks in his own end.

Semin is not off the books till the end of 2012 and there will be plenty of takers DC at the draft when McPhee shops him. Green is an RFA in 2013 so the Capitals control his rights. Now i'm not saying McPhee wouldn't listen but if Boudreau is given another year then Green stays because Leonis (owner) and Bruce love Mike Green from what i've read. Tough call when the money is decent for the offense MG provides.

If McPhee called me as GM I have to listen and if it weren't too much i'd have to think about it if you aren't in the running for Wiz, Kaberle or Pikanen this summer. Green is still young and you control him with the RFA rights.

Re: Can we get and do we want Mike Green?

He still has one more year on his contract at $5mill and is an RFA after, not to mention he is only 24 and  easily has more skill then the majority of Bruin players. His presence will only enhance the B's PP and if paired with Chara his defensive liability will be minimal nor will he over-relied on to provide leadership.

Every good team is looking for a player like him. So it depends on what the Caps want for him and if they can find room for his salaray cap-wise. It does not hurt to kick the tires.

You're right. I thought his deal was done after this year. Now I understand why Caps fans are so anxious about the cap even with Green gone. I thought 11 mil is plenty of room but I guess they'd only free up 5 minus the salary of whatever was going back.

I don't think Green is terrible, but he's not a player that meshes well with Boston's style. There are other blueliners out there that are trade possibilities that work better for their system yet still have offensive upside (Whitney for example).

Green is a good offensive defensemen, his defensive game has improved though he wont be confused with Lidstrom anytime soon. I think his numbers are inflated a bit due to the talent up front. Isn't Semin locked in for one more year, I thought they extended him this year.

You're right, they did. SanDawg mentioned it as well. Completely over my head when I made the post. Will make an edit.

Why would we want Green, is so we can look back fondly on how much better defensively Kaberle was?

My first thought was negative, but my second though is maybe.  Logistics aside, if he were paired with Z, I think all problems of scoring on the powerplay would be solved.

That was my thought process also.

An interesting scenario would be if the Bruins are on the clock at the draft, the best player available is Ryan Murphy, and George McPhee calls up offering Green for the pick plus something. Would you do it and who would you be willing to give up?
