    Canadian Anthem in Buffalo?

Just caught a small piece of O Canada! being sung in Buffalo. Against the Bruins. What's that all about? Anyone have a history or heard a reason?

    Just curious.

Half the season ticketholders and attendees are Canadian. Plus the close proximity.

They usually (always?) play it. Half the fans are from Canada.

Great, I'll feel right at home when I go see the B's in Buffalo Feb.24. Actually go over on shopping/golfing trips with my wife/friends.....this will be the first time to a game.

Because the rink is basically walking distance from the border?

About 20% of the Sabres season ticket holders are Canadian, and given the close proximity to the border, they've been doing it for...well...as long as I can remember.

Many season ticket holders are from Fort Erie and Niagara Falls Canada, in fact if not for the Canadian fans the Sabres would have been gone a long time ago.

This is why, and not Toronto, that we haven't seen a second team in Southern Ontario. Walk around Hamilton and you see as many if not more Sabres jerseys than Leaf ones.

They've done it forever . I had season tickets back in the 80's and all you have to do is check out the big delays on the bridges on game night to know how many Canadians make the trek to Buffalo. The arena is less then 5 minutes from the Peace Bridge border crossing.

    Re: Canadian Anthem in Buffalo?

And the Sabres aren't the only team that benefits from cross-border fans. My cousin is a prof at UND. She and 7 other faculty members share a pack of season tickets to the Jets (she's got twenty games this season - 1.5 to 2 hour drive). The numbers aren't as high because of the low ticket availability this season, but based on what she sees at the games and the delay at the border she figures five per cent or so of those at the games this season are American. Makes you wonder how many fans would make the trek from Abbotsford if Seattle ever gets a team. Only diehards would drive that 20-40 times a season, but there are diehards on both sides of that border.
