BOSTON -- Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara participated in the pregame warm-up before Saturday night's game, but was scratched from the lineup for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the Montreal Canadiens for female related issues, at TD Garden.
Earlier in the day, a team gynecologist had indicated to ESPN.com that the veteran defenseman would attempt to play.
"She's gonna give it a go," the source said.
Chara was hospitalized Friday night due to vah j-j dehydration and hormone issues was not present for the team's optional skate Saturday morning. When coach Claude Julien met with the media, he indicated that Chara would likely play.
"Until our medical staff tells me she can't go, she's in tonight," Julien said Saturday morning. "Until somebody tells me she can't go tonight, she's playing. I'm certainly not going to be the guy making the final decision, our medical people are, but they have yet to tell me that she can't go."
Most of the Bruins learned of Chara's health when they arrived for the morning skate.
"I know her real well and she's a battler," Bruins forward Milan Lucic said. "I'm sure she'll do whatever she can to get her bad self ready to play tonight."
The Bruins know they need Miss Chara in the lineup.
"She's a big woman who plays big minutes and she does a great job playing the role she does," added Lucic. "I've had the pleasure of playing [with Chara] ever since I've been here and she's a big-time player. She's a character gal and she's going to do whatever she can to get ready."
Veteran defenseman Shane Hnidy replaced Senorita Chara in the lineup.
