    Chara's too tall

I was at TSN and saw the worst excuse from a Pens fan eve. It is so ridiculous I just had to share it. Basically thay say Chara shouldn't be allowed in the NHL because he's too tall.

"Though it is completely legal for a giant 6'9' to play the game, is it really fair? He's so much taller, arms are longer, stick is longer, it's impossible for a forward to try and beat him skating in his zone. It's like an adult playing in a kids league. It will be nice when Chara retires. If I owned a team I would hire all guys 7 feet tall, get them skating lessons, and they would win every game, and then our great game would be done."

imagine if only people 5'8 and under were allowed to play hockey?

I wonder why John Scott isn't an awesome player if size is so important?

It reminds me of a Rob Lowe quote

"You know what I'd do if I owned a hockey team? I'd hire a sumo wrestler. I'd give him a uniform, transportation, 500 bucks a week to sit in the goal, eat a ham sandwich, and enjoy the game. My team would never get scored on."
"Your team would get scored on constantly."

CHARA is a beast no doubt about it, do they really believe it's just about putting skates on a tall person and he'd make a good hockey player! It's too stupid to believe anybody could be that dumb.

I don't hear too many folks complaining that Tyler Myers is too tall.

Exactly Ron. Hal Gill and Chara are seperated by more than just 2 inches of height.

If height was what mattered, I wouldn't have been asking for the Jets to trade Antropov all season long.

Unbelievable.  Too funny Red.  Having worked for many years in HR I don't think you can discriminate because of height.  I do think however that people should have to have an IQ over a certain level before they can give an opinion.  This Pens fan probably would not have met the required level.  Wow!!

    Re: Chara's too tall

This excerpt is from the May 29, 2013 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Dave Molinari:

Chara, 6 feet 9, 255 pounds, might be able to corral unclaimed pucks off a faceoff anywhere on the ice, even if he's sitting on the bench.  That's because there are commercial airliners with less wingspan than he has; give Chara a stick for each hand and he just might be able to touch both sides of the rink simultaneously.

"His size is obvious, and he's physical, but it's more his reach [that makes playing against him difficult]," Sidney Crosby said.  "Typically, you have some open ice in those areas [in the attacking zone], and now you're looking at a stick, a stick-on-puck or a stick that's within reach."  The Pens got a front row seat for Chara's dimensions.

Maybe Bettman will bring in an arm measurement for players over a certain height, Chowda.  That would be funny seeing say, Therrien, his team behind in a home game to the Bruins calling for a check of Chara's arms and the refs scroll out their measuring tapes and investigate their length from his shoulders to the cuffs of his jersey.  I can hear Bob Cole now: "The giant Chara looks like he's being fitted for a suit."

Reminds me of an old Rodney Dangerfield joke

    Dr: "Chara you're too tall"

Chara: "I'd like a second opinion"

    Dr: "Okay, you're ugly too."
