Zanon is a nasty s.o.b. and helps TT and Rask. Rolston hopefully learned how to Recchi. Mottau is a great depth move IMO who may have some upside.

I'd say Pevs, Kelly and Kaberle were huge deals last year!!!

Deeper, slower, and bigger in the back end...

Anyway, Kaberle was considered a pretty big deal. Pevs and Kel were the smaller "depth moves" - and they worked out great. Hope this year's do to

Not sure about that, Dutch on TSN, despite his lipstick and blush, knows his stuff, nailed it last year on trade day when he said Pevs could wheel and was a great sleeper pick up for PC..... These 3 stooges don't compare, tho I like Rollie... Zanon may be allright, but he's no beast... guys who wrecking ball other guys occassionally have to back it up, abnd he has 1 NHL fighting major, when Carbomb detonated him... We shoulda got Forskine

Question... Why if Rolston was available for free on waivers did PC give a body for him?

If you've ever seen Rolston play, I don't know how you could say the word slow.  But truth is, they didn't give anything up at all.  So it's impossible for these trades to make them worse in any way, including slower.  They don't have to play the the new guys. If they are slower but no better, they stick with the lineup they have. If the players make them better, then great. There is no downside.

Anyone recall the history of waiver claims at the deadline (or beyond) where that player had an impact on its new team in the playoffs?

Over 35's claimed on waivers - the waiving team is responsible for half his remaining salary. And counts against the Cap.

PC did Garth Snow and Charles Wong a favour and turned it into a trade. Isles are now free of Rolston contract.

Re: Deeper but slower..no not a sex movie...

According to reports, PC needed to swap contracts in order to get Rolston. Not a bad shooter, and still has his wheels. Both Mottau and Zanon will prosper in CJ's system, particularly with forwards backchecking, and not taking offensive chances that spring these speedy forwards. Just like the Ranger/Devils recent game, and the Bruins/St. Louis 5 man defense, the team will adjust to frustrate speedier, run and gun opponents. Additionally, the Bruins forward lines will concentrate, as we've seen lately, in maintaining offensive control and pressure.

Re: Deeper but slower..no not a sex movie...

Probably part of the condition for getting Moulson from the Isles.  You could look at it as a waiver pick up and a trade of two teir-3 pros for Moulson. But the Bruins may have needed to move a couple pro contracts (there is a limit to how many a team can have). Doesn't really matter.
