Great for him and the B's. He's actually progressing just as well (or better) as Spooner did after being drafted.

"Lars Volden GK, 6 round pick 181 overall 2011 by Bruins 20 year old Volden playing 2012/2013 in Finland. Played for Norway (A) against Switzerland today (4-1) Saved 31 of 32 shots. "

Will be a nice one-two punch in Providence next season with Svedberg if he comes over.

    :
Seems like some decent numbers for Volden, especially in SM-liiga: 11gp 1.90 GAA .931SV%.  That said, Ivan Huml is the league's 3rd leading scorer.  Remember that waste of a 2nd round pick from the horrible 2000 draft?

MOC was on Boston radio last year commenting on that draft and said "he didn't listen to his scouts in the 2000 and 2001 draft". Yah really Mike?!...

btw that's ancient history, last year's stats.

And again, Volden had a goal scored against him when a shot went wide, hit the boards and bounced off his backside and into the net.

Re: Early Bruins 2012-2013 Prospect Reports

Not to excuse Mike O'Connell for any of his sins, but what a horrible draft year to have six picks in the top 75.  Jonsson, Samuelsson, Hilbert, Huml, Makela and Zinovjev.  One NA born player and a raft of fail.  But when you play "oh, what might have been" and look at the guys drafted in the first four rounds of that draft, it's a lot easier to take.  A few good hard-nosed D (Kronwall would have been nice) but not many players you've coveted over the intervening years.  The best player to come out of that draft was 7th rounder Henrik Lundqvist.  Hartnell, Heatley and Gaborik among skaters, and they were all gone even before #7.  So much luck goes into having picks at a time when the picks might actually mean something.  A weak draft class and you get to improve to mediocrity at best.

Lots of NHL games played from players picked after Jonsson and Samuelsson. The point wasn't second guessing but MOC readily admits not listening to his scouts and not going with what they reccomended in  2000. Mike learned from his lesson, he more than made up for it from 2003-2006 in later rounds as well.

San- can't give MOC 2006 draft, and 2005 was pretty bad as well.  2003 & 2004 yielded; Stuart, Bergeron, Krejci, Versteeg, Hunwick and Nate Thompson, some really nice work there.

2006 Draft was a homerun that is difficult to assign the credit for.  How much was Gorton or how much was PC?

What I was told is PC went with MOCs scouts advise that were still in place until Chiarelli brought in his own scouting dept. Were is the proof that PC was guiding Gorton ? There really is no proof but I doubt JJ relied on Gorton for the signings of Savard and Chara.

Matt Lashoff landed Recchi and a 2nd rounder (flipped in the Florida trade for Dennis Seidenberg and Matthew Bartkowski ), Sobotka is still in the league, Warsofsky is not a total bust because he is still skating and Kalus was traded Manny Fernandez but Manny's knees had other ideas. Not great but not as bad as 2000 draft by the Bs.

Torey Krug a goal and helper today. He got off to a bad start and I haven't seem him play , but  he's up to seven goals and might be the next guy up if a d-man goes down.

I am not sure if he has been mentioned on other posts  if his play has picked up.

He could be Ference's replacement next year.

    Baby win 7-3 last night.

Torey Krug's incredible run of points in 9 consecutive games continued with another 2 assists.  Over that span he is 4-12-16, with his 6th multi-point game.  Season totals have climbed to respectable levels, now: 39gp 7-17-24.

Jordan Caron showed up on the scoresheet, 1-1-2 and was named the game's 1st Star.

Carter Camper picked-up a pair of helpers as well and has been pretty hot of late.   Like Krug, also has a 9-game point streak with 2-13-15 numbers over that span.

Sandog's wish of Koko joining Providence might look even better after tonight. Koko's Windsor Spitfires trail the Saginaw Spirit for the last playoff spot by 7 points.

    They play tonight in Saginaw.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/jrhockey-buzzing-the-net/boston-bruins-pick-seth-griffith-breaks-hand-falls-150458847.html

"Following a scoop on Tuesday night that Griffith, a Boston Bruins selection, broke a bone d a broken band in his hand, the Knights provided a little more detail. It looks as though Griffith, frequently the finisher-offer of many a feed from NHL draft prospect Max Domi, is going to miss at least three weeks. The pair are one of just two tandems in OHL who each have at least 30 goals.

As Knights assistant coach Dylan Hunter told Shannon Wise (@WISE1290SPORTS):

"From what we were told, [the break] was clean and there were no complications with that. So basically it's just resting up for the next few weeks and getting ready for our playoff run ... As of right now, it looks about 2-4 [weeks] depending on how it heals but right now he's off the ice not doing anything.

"... We're going to wait until he is 100 per cent. We don't want him coming out early, pushing the envelope with it. We want him being healthy the whole playoff run.

"... It could have been worse. It could have been first round of the playoffs for us ... I'd lean toward [the timetable for Griffith's return] being 3-4 weeks." (CJBK 1290)"

    Still a great season though!

And currently Camara is serving a 6 game suspension. It makes the OHL less interesting these days with these 2 out.

Svedberg 28 save night, leads the league with 24 wins and has .924 save%. Man Am I happy about the Bruins goalie situation!
