Are they the only team with a $98 mil salary cap. I mean there isn't a player available that the Flyers aren't in on. Ryan Miller, Brad Richards, Nathan Horton, you name it , their getting em'.

How come they can do this deal now?  I know he's not being signed as a FA, but I thought everyone had to hold up on trades until after the playoffs or the FA date.  It doesn't seem fair that teams can do deals now while playoff teams can't because they are kind of busy right now.

    BUYOUTS

During the ordinary course buyout periods in June 2013 and June 2014, teams will be permitted two compliance buyouts.

I get nervous thinking they might buy out Bryzgalov, knowing they could go after Tuukka with an offer sheet. After all the problems they have in net, I'm not sure they'll put it all on Steve Mason.

There is no way the B's allow Rask to be in a position to accept an offer sheet.  They'll have him all locked up beforehand.

I can't think of the last B's player to reach RFA status that they really wanted to keep.

    Anyone?

I think under the new cba, teams can no longer get out of a player's cap hit, by sending a player to the minors.

I guess having Pronger as an almost 5M cap hit for the next 4 or 5 years, hasn't scared them off of signing guys to a 35+ contract.

I think philly will be gun shy to do that with a goalie.  I think they give mason the starters role and sign a quality backup.

If Boston loses any goalie to Philly, I think it would be Khudobin. Give Mason the Start and have Khudobin push him. I could also see Chevy trying to grab Khudobin to have a safety net behind Pavelec who is streaky.

And as for these trades this time of year, they bug me too. Seems to be a competitive advantage for some teams. The Hawks and Bruins are the only teams prohibited from making a deal at the moment. Granted they're the two best clubs in the league, but that shouldn't be reason enough to allow the other 28 teams to do something they can't - there's already the draft rankings to help make up for that.

While Pronger's contract doesn't have that 35+ tag, his injury makes it a moot point.  Neither team can do anything with the player but put him on LTIR and potentially use money they get from that.  They can't (as far as I can tell) be bought out, no one will trade for them, being sent to the minors won't do anything anymore, and they can't be suspended.
