    Fun with Capgeek.com: JMW's Projected B's Roster (2014-15)

Procrastinating on my research tonight and having fun with Capgeek on the possible B's roster for next season.  I created what I think is a plausible B's line-up without signing any UFA's (aside from retaining Iginla)...just re-signing RFA's and assuming ST retires and Savard stays on LTIR.

You're resigning Iggie for 6 mil a year?  I like him, but I don't think he's worth that much.  I haven't even looked at the free agents available this summer, are there any big catches to be had?

That's what he made this year with his bonuses...believe it or not.

How much would you pay for a 25-30 goal scorer? Add in the fact that he plays perfect Boston Bruin hockey so he fits 100% perfectly with the team?  Add in the fact that, of the free agents, he's the top goal scorer.

Yep, another incentive laden one year contract (like this season's) would probably serve both sides. Other options really are limited, barring a trade of course. I could also see PC moving a Dman because as of right now the B's have 8 regulars on the back end going into next season.

On a side note, I would sign John Scott to the league minimum just to bury him in the ECHL. Would be doing the league a favour....

You only left $550K for trades, in case of injuries, and even with Bartkowski gone, which he will be, that only gives $1.35M for any trades.

No way in hell should Iginla get $6M, he is not that player anymore. If Iginla's agent wants retirement money good luck there is always Dallas or New Jersey. PC can always make a trade like he did last year, that option is more likely way to get a younger winger for Krejci.

Playoffs: Reilly Smith > Tyler Seguin

The UFA market for right wingers is weak, particularly for first line wingers (see link above for list of UFA's). The only option would be a trade but to trade for a first line winger you need to give something substantial up.

You are right, they will not carry 8 dmen so the $1.35 mill in cap space (by demoting or trading either Miller or Bart) is doable to a point. If I had the choice I would dump Kelly and his $3mill. Aging and injury prone.

    Re: Fun with Capgeek.com: JMW's Projected B's Roster (2014-15)

Here's the problem, JMW.  The Bruins are going to be paying a portion of Iginla's bonuses against next year's cap.  You're unlikely to have the full Cap to work with.  Maybe $5M less than wherever it settles. Now, maybe the easiest thing is just to put Iginla in a $6M knowing he'll count for only $2M against the Cap, and that offsets this year's bonuses, but it does push the problem forward.  You're also not getting Smith and Krug for $2M each, and we won't see Bartkowski back unless they move McQuaid (and maybe Miller, too).  I don't see how they can keep Kelly at $3M, and (marco will love this) I'm also not sure they can spend $4M on a third line RW.  It's going to be a tough off-season, I think.

And 2016 will be harder with Krejci, Soderberg, Boychuk all UFA, and Hamilton an RFA.  Another year of development like this last couple of months and he'll be looking for Pietrangelo money....

Good points. I am not sure how much of Iginla's bonuses are deferred until next season, capgeek has not posted anything on this yet. I do agree that one of Bart-Miller-McQuaid will be moved in the off-season. Ditto for Kelly.

I certainly do, however, think PC can sign both Smith and Krug to $2mill each as a bridge contract. They are RFA's coming off their EL contracts after all and if PC wanted to play hardball he could just qualify both of them at the typical 10% raise. Should be interesting to see what happens.....

Not talking about free agency but a trade and PC most certainly has chips (Morrow, Bartkowski, Spooner and a #1). Bonus carry over more than likely has sealed Kelly and Iginla's fate with Boston next year.

The Bs need an influx of youth IMO, I don't want anymore aging wingers skating in quick sand as the playoffs march on anymore. It's getting old.

I wonder if Spooner could be coached on how to play wing effectively (like Bergeron his first season). Then perhaps either he or Eriksson could slide into the first line RW slot. Maybe give that a try and upgrade with a rental at the deadline if need be. Not as if this team and its core is going to somehow tank if they don't get a known top line commodity next season.

Obviously ready to play.  he may have to use buyouts and not with a minir player .

Kelly is the most obvious pick for this. However, I believe PC could probably unload him on a team like EDM, Isles or FLA who have cap space but need d-savvy vets for their bottom 6.
