Game 49: Kings at Bruins GDT

    KINGS (29-14-6) at BRUINS (30-15-3) TV: NHLN-US, NHLN-CA, FS-W, NESN

    Last 10: Los Angeles 4-4-2; Boston 4-5-1

Season series: This is the second of two games between the Los Angeles Kings and Boston Bruins. Forward Justin Williams and defenseman Alec Martinez scored 61 seconds apart in the middle period to chase Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask and lead the Kings to a 4-2 win Jan. 9 at Staples Center.

Big story: For the second consecutive afternoon the Bruins, winners of the Stanley Cup in 2011, will face a team that has won a championship even more recently. They lost 3-2 in a ****tout to the defending champion Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday and now face the Kings, winners in 2012, for the second time in 12 days.

Team Scope: Kings: A five-game road trip leading up to their Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday continues on for Los Angeles, which has split the first two games.

An unlucky bounce and missed call late in regulation saw the Kings surrender the tying goal to the Detroit Red Wings in an eventual 3-2 ****tout loss Saturday, but the bright side was the continued strong play of goalie Jonathan Quick. Since returning from a groin injury, Quick has allowed two goals or fewer in six of seven starts. "We have to move on," forward Mike Richards said. "We can't dwell on something that happened or something that was out of our control."

Bruins: It's a quick turnaround for Boston and perhaps that's best after the Bruins left United Center in Chicago with another loss in down-to-the-wire fashion. Brad Marchand, who has nine goals in the past 14 games, was their only player to solve Corey Crawford, scoring late in the first period, early in the second and again in the ****tout to temporarily keep the Bruins alive before Patrick Kane won it.

Though the Bruins haven't started the new year on fire and been able to create any separation in the Atlantic Division race, forward Patrice Bergeron said the game Sunday and a 4-2 win against the Dallas Stars three nights earlier indicate they are headed in the right direction. "The last two games I thought we battled, did the little things right," Bergeron said.

Who's hot: Jeff Carter has goals in consecutive games for the Kings and a three-game point streak overall. … Bergeron has two goals and three assists during a three-game point streak for the Bruins.

Injury report: Los Angeles is without defenseman Matt Greene (concussion-like symptoms). … Boston defenseman Adam McQuaid (undisclosed) left the game Sunday in the second period and did not return. Coach Claude Julien had no update on McQuaid pending further evaluation. Defenseman Dougie Hamilton (concussion) has missed the past three games. Forward Chris Kelly (ankle) is on injured reserve."

Can you imagine if Chara was this accurate? This kid can hammer it, but it's his ability to find the corners of the net is fantastic.

Kopitar is one heck of a player.

Doughty coughed up a couple, including one right in front of his net, if that were Karlsson he's be getting ripped in here.

I think that has a lot to do with the fact that Karlsson doesn't have no where near the same amount of dimensions as Drew does kel.

Damn glad Quick is over his groin problem for the US and the Olympics. Just didn't need him to do that to Smith today.

His lateral movement is out worldly dog! You can thank Mike Richter, that's who Quick wanted to be as...."quick" as. He's certainly accomplished that.
