Good Work PC now get Kaberle Signed!

Got to give PC credit for this one Kaberle was needed
our PP stinks and this is a huge upgrade from Wideman,
think we have the amo now to compete with Philly and
those stinky horse shoe up their ace wearing Habs!

Got also give credit to Seabass for locking Charlie and
JJ in the closet to allow the Bs to get the
pieces they need to make a "REAL" cup run!

    Go Bruins!

Now how is that for being positive sheep!

Re: Good Work PC now get Kaberle Signed!

Am I the only one who feels sick about this trade?  The poster who is a friendly leaf fan said that Kaberle "gets knocked off the puck easily".  Sure enough, his first shift as a Bruin, when he went into the corner with an Ottawa forward, Kaberle was left sitting flat on the ice and the forward skated away with the puck.

We gave up a solid reliable tough 100% effort D-man in Mark Stuart.  McQuaid is NOT better than Stuart.  McQuaid is pretty good; Stuart is very good.

For a team management that advocates defense first, they gave up a vital part of that fort (plus a BUNCH of picks) to acquire a three month RENTAL of a guy who can pass and do the pp, but who is full of holes on D.  I don't get it!!!!

Kaberle is like Gonchar and Coffee-- slick when they are slick but soft and sloppy in their defensive ends.  Turnovers, slips and slops.  Management gave away Hunwick because of errors on D.  No one wanted to keep Wideman for the same reason ("falling down").  But now we get Kaberle who is worse than all the above, according to reports and observations thus far.

It's like puppy love--  attraction to all that dazzles and flashes prettily, but without taking cognizance of the character underneath-- in this case the fundamentals of solid defense.

Are we forgetting the maxim that "offense gets you into the playoffs, but defense wins it"?

Clam,it's obvious that Boston was doing OK defensively but were in need of help with the transistion game and PP.Stuart(one of my favourite Bruins)wasn't able to help with either.Would you have a problem with acquiring Coffey or Gonchar in their prime? You take the good with the bad with these types of players. There aren't many Bourque and Lidstrom types available.I've watched many Leafs games over the years and can honestly say I don't think Kaberle is the defensive liability that you've been led to believe. Both his reputation as a liability in his own end and his recent declines in production can be attributed mostly to his playing for awful Toronto teams. It's been years since they had goaltending in Toronto so that won't help his D stats.Bottom line is I expect you to be pleasantly surprised once you've seen him play more games for a better team.

Actually Dez, I think we did acquire Gonchar in his prime....how did that work out?

That being said, you as quite right. The B's had a glut of stay-at-home types and lacked transition type Defencemen (PMD's). It has been obvious for a while now.

Kaberle shoud do well and I think PC will sign him if only because of the price he paid to get him....

I'm well aware that we got Gonchar in his prime but I don't think it's fair to compare this deal to Gonchar's as I don't expect a lockout to affect whether Kaberle resigns. We all know how poorly the previous management team dealt with the roster in the new cap era.I've no problem with Boston having lost Shoane Morrison in that deal.Hopefully Boston realized Colbourne might not become an Nhl regular either.

I agree with that. I am still a little pissed that the draft pick we gave up for Gonchar turned into Mike Green, PP specialist extrordinaire. Had we kept the pick and just drafted Green we would not need Kaberle now.....too much hindsight...lol!

Yeah, at the time I was pumped to get Gonchar. Too bad for the B's it did not work out and we were humiliated by the Habs in the first round again....not one of our finer moments considering the talent the B's had that year.

I am very anxious to see what Peverley and Kelly bring.  Of course, I'd love to see the big Dman (that came with the package) turn a huge corner; be able to contribute by next year.  Maybe he needs to get faster...hang with Z for a few bike rides?

Good job, FO.  Gee, why do I sense teh Neely factor...one of my fave B's.

Some power skating and work on his positioning might do wonders for Valabik. Then again he could just be a bust.Either way it's a minimal risk for a project player.

Thanks for the counsel, dez.  I actually feel better after having read your post!!!!  Maybe it will play out better than I have feared and, yes, it will be exicting to watch Kaberle on the pp point (anything will be better than watching Recchi struggle out there!!)

As for Kelly, I wasn't that impressed with game number one.  No great passes, medium grade board work, and he took a penalty in the third.  But, commentators including KPD and Milbury seem to like him.  So, we'll see..

For all the negatives about Wheeler, he was a suberb checker.  He could sprint to the boards to chase down a puck.... 50 ft in three strides.....and pin the play in while poking the puck to a team mate.  I for one will miss watching him (and note with interest his progress in Atl)   Will Kelly be better than Wheeler?

    Next, all eyes on Peverly.

I too was left wanting more from Kelly but hope it was just new team jitters. If Peverly plays as well for Boston as he seemed to against them I'll be pleased.I saw many good things in Wheelers game but just not often enough. It won't surprise me to see him do well in Atlanta but it would sting a bit.

I'll wait for more than 1 game before I judge Kelly.

This is kelly in a nutshell. He will quietly do his job and stay in within the system. A low maintinence and consistent performer. You know what you are going to get from him. We should not expect him to be the second coming of Dave Poulin or Dave Reid....

    Kaberle was a must!

He can make defensive gafs, and Sidenberg will cover them up.

Watch him he is a genious in moving the puck up the ice!

Something we have not had since Bourque!

Without this trade Bruins would be out in the first round!

With Kelly, Kaberle and Peverly we now have the speed to keep up
    with other fast teams!

Once again got to give PC credit job well done now sign Kaberle!

I agree. Speed, or lack of it, was definitely a real problem this year. One only has to re-watch the last loss against the leafs to notice this. PC did well in getting, not only more speed but players that could contribute as well.

As for Kaberle, we have been lacking this calibre of defenseman for a long time so you are also right about this. I anticipate a very good end to this year leading into the playoffs.
