    History on Boston's Side

The New York Rangers are in a 3-0 playoff-series deficit for the 11th time in their history. They have forced a Game 5 four times, and in 1939 became the first team in Stanley Cup Playoff history to force a Game 7 after falling into a 3-0 hole. Coincidentally (not ironically), they did that against the Boston Bruins.

Here is the Rangers' history when falling behind 3-0 in a seven-game series:

2008 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins: Lost in 5
2006 vs. New Jersey Devils: Lost in 4
1995 vs. Philadelphia Flyers: Lost in 4
1989 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins: Lost in 4
1986 vs. Montreal Canadiens: Lost in 5
1981 vs. New York Islanders: Lost in 4
1980 vs. Philadelphia Flyers: Lost in 5
1969 vs. Montreal Canadiens: Lost in 4
1967 vs. Montreal Canadiens: Lost in 4
1939 vs. Boston Bruins: Lost in 7

The Boston Bruins lead a seven-game series 3-0 for the 19th time in their history. They have completed the sweep 13 times but are one of three teams in NHL history to blow the lead and lose Game 7.

Here is the Bruins' history when leading 3-0 in a seven-game series:

2011 vs. Philadelphia Flyers: Won in 4
2010 vs. Philadelphia Flyers: Lost in 7
2009 vs. Montreal Canadiens: Won in 4
1992 vs. Montreal Canadiens: Won in 4
1990 vs. Washington Capitals: Won in 4
1990 vs. Montreal Canadiens: Won in 5
1979 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins: Won in 4
1978 vs. Chicago Blackhawks: Won in 4
1977 vs. Philadelphia Flyers: Won in 4
1977 vs. Los Angeles Kings: Won in 6
1974 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs: Won in 4
1972 vs. St. Louis Blues: Won in 4
1970 vs. St. Louis Blues: Won in 4
1970 vs. Chicago Blackhawks: Won in 4
1969 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs: Won in 4
1943 vs. Montreal Canadiens: Won in 5
1941 vs. Detroit Red Wings: Won in 4
1939 vs. New York Rangers: Won in 7

    Historically:

    • Bruins sweep -   72%
    • Bruins win in 5 - 40%
    • Bruins win in 6 -   6%
    • Bruins win in 7 - 50%

I have witnessed 13 of the 18 listed above. Man, I'm getting old.

Odd, as the age of information increases our access to said information, the dumber we get as a society.

    Almost ironic......

    Sad, but true.

That isn't in any significant way what Macluhan was theorizing.

I blame Alannis Morrisette for destroying the meaning of that word.

McLuhan didn't have that in mind. But once big business gets involved that is what it turns into.

Sorry, but I have no idea what Morrisette has to do with it. I know who she is, but I know not what she sings about.

She had a massively successful song in the mid-90's called "Ironic" in which she sang about a bunch of examples of irony. The problem is that the only thing ironic about the song is that NONE of the examples she used were actually ironic.

The proper use of the word has taken a nose-dive ever since.

    Re: History on Boston's Side

    For you Wheats...

    "Ironic" - by A.M.

    An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
    Who would've thought... it figures

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
    "Well isn't this nice..."
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
    Who would've thought... it figures

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up
    In your face

A traffic jam when you're already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic...don't you think
A little too ironic...and, yeah, I really do think...

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
    Who would've thought... it figures

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
    Helping you out

Sorry...had to do that(didn't even read them-isn't that ironic?).

I am not sure that the past dictates the future though...I hope so.  Laughing

Try living my life - I couldn't really stand either of their music (maybe one or two Alannis songs, but that was it) , but in the crowd I ran with in the 90's them plus folks like Sarah Maclachlan and well pretty much the entire Lilith Fair lineup was constantly playing around me. It was maddening.

I actually don't mind Alanis.  Some of the super cheesy stuff is miserable, but musically, most of her stuff is pretty good.

Lilith Fair music is daggers entering ears.

The Indigo Girls first album is still in my rotation.

I have 3 teenagers and they all listen to country.  I wasn't a fan at first but it grows on you and now I'm hooked.  Beats the heck out of the hip-hop and rap that they used to like.  Still enjoy some classic/alternative rock.  A little Michaael Jacson is ok with me too.

Classic rock is absolutely awesome, of course.  "Is that Freedom Rock, man?"  "Yeah, man!"  "Well, turn it up, man!"

However, I can relate to a girl like Alanis at least a little bit.

"I want you to know, that I'm happy for you
I wish nothing but the best for you both
    An older version of me
    Is she perverted like me
Would she go down on you in a theatre?"
