    Hockey Central

Despite recent skid Bruins are ranked #2, behind only Vancouver.

Wash moved up from 6th to 3rd, Det from 3rd to 4th and Sj stayed at 5th.

So the B's are 8th in the league in points they are listed as #2 in the power rankings.  This has to do with their depth, their defensive play, the big Z and TT.  They are expected to go deep and this recent skid is just expectant fallout from the Pac incident.

There is no doubt the Bruins rank up there with the best in the league.

I believe they can compete with any team. However, when they need that one goal to tie the game and change the momentum, or the goal to break the tie, or the that insurance goal...that is their downfall.

    Re: Hockey Central

Whether it is ESPN, HNIC or TSN it just depends on which hockey writers you like/trust or believe more preferential. ESPN has the Bruins ranked a little lower because of the skid with LeBrun, Burnside, Melrose and Bucigross doing the rankings more than likely.

Goal differential is what stands out when comparing the Bruins to Vancouver. When the Bruins played in BC they were at +46 now they are at +37 after the skid. Big difference without Ference and Kampfer so hopefully that cures the woes a bit with some more puck possession.

Rankings mean nothing in the playoffs.  And in the East they even mean less.  Any team that gets in can win the east.

Both conferences are deep and rankings really mean nothing.  But they do give a perspective for Bruins fans as to what the rest of the world things of the team, and it's generally pretty positive.  Top 1-5 usually.  It doesn't mean they will win anything, but most experts feel the Bruins make up is reallly good and they do have excellent offence and defence stats.

    Re: Hockey Central

There's a good general point here - by stats, I think you have to say the Bruins have as good a shot as anyone if they stay healthy.  Watching them play...well, that's another story.  If you saw them play Vancouver and Calgary, or Washington and Philly early in the year, you say the stats paint a pretty accurate picture of a team that can come at you in waves, frustrate your scorers, and score pretty or dirty - a physical team that gets contributions offensively from all lines.  If you watched the stinkers of the last two weeks or some of the other snoozer efforts, you'd also say the stats don't lie - but you'd be referring to Horton's 0 for 18 goal-less drought, a team that gives up the most shots in the league, and a team that has at best a struggling PP.

Look them up on Facebook and you're printing parade routes.

Watch them play night to night and you're have a lot of hope, and an ulcer.
