Like I said, it seems they trusted Ducky more than the scouts from Atlanta.

Even the Senators shocked me with their pick.
As for Jets , rookie GM,  should not take a chance.  Couturier was there for the taking.
Then again, Philly would have taken Hamilton.

    dinner with NAS?

I can see that now...  let's say it's Italian and they bring out some foccacia bread and some extra virgin olive oil with a baked garlic in it.

NAS will point out the FDA stats on the acceptable amount of rat turd in the flour that went into the bread.

    Yah, it's a fact.
Yah, the stat will be accurate.
Yah, it will be dinner with the NAS.
Yah, there might be a game on and the wait staff might block your view.
Yah, NAS will be entirely unsympathetic with that.
Yah, if there are children in the house he'll tell them about death and taxes.

    Fun?
How about a bet with NAS about fun stuff he does in his spare time?
Now that would be a good time.

What's the difference between this owner and the previous one ? Would his level of commitment be deeper than the first owner ?  Will the new owner be able to weather out a week Canadian dollar ? Will the Corporate sector stay in Winnipeg through the next recession ? Where's the crystal ball ?

The new owners own the arena, which they didn't the last time. They own about 40 per cent of all the real estate in a five block radius of the dowtown rink and are re-developing it, the team  owns a massive luxury hotel going up across the steet as wel as a casino, and what else...

Oh yeah, they have the richest owner in all of North American professional sport, with Daid Thomson, the 15th richest person on the planet at a personal worth of about $24 billion, ownng the team.

    Ownership will be fine.

That's pretty misleading.  Thompson is a partner in True North, he isn't the owner. In fact, he's more of a silent partner than anything.  Your statement makes him out to be more like Mark Cuban, which he is not.

It doesn't matter how much money the man has.  If the team is losing it hand over fist, he won't continue to fund it.  It'll be deemed a loser and jettisoned.

Bingo!  Why Losapeg will make the NHL grade this time.  The rest of the stuff on this thread is just mindless jibberish.  Hey Red, I thought you wanted the "Jets" name, sorry.

Is the current currency valuation set in stone for the next 50 years?  What happens when the US Dollar bounces back?

I'd imagine they'll combine elements of the old uniform with an updated style.

Re: Hockey will fail in Winnepeg again

When the Canadian dollar was down at 80 cents to the US dollar, the Corporate world left Winnipeg and the owners didn't own their own rink. The team could not operate on just fan support alone.

So for people to point out the great fan response, which makes great headlines, that alone won't pay the bills if the Corporate world bails on Winnipeg when the next recession comes. Unless the owners have deep pocket.

I don't want to see the Jets leave again. And now bring on Quebec City. It's time.

He's equal but silent - he owns 50 per cent of TNSE. Also, the dollar isn't set in stone, but every single economist I've read predicts no significant drop agains the  Greenback in the foreseeable future. The American economy is still far too weak compared to the Caadian economy to worry about a rally in the dollar anytime soon. One would hope that they have/are heavily invsted in the greenback in the interim to help offset any potential losses rising from a drop in the loonie.

Big difference between the two, SanDog!  Red is okay in my book.

Duinne spent too much time making stuff up.

I think NAS and I have a mutual respect as two people who love the Bruins, but also don't suffer fools easily and are vocal about it. That puts us at loggerheads sometimes, and I think on occassion that he's a complete a**, just like I'm sure he occassionally thinks I'm a complete b***h. But I've got respect for the guy, and I think it's mutual.

that said, I can't wait for my free dinner.
