hope the Bruins were watching the pens PP

Maybe they will learn how to score on a power play themselves

Hopefully Geoff Ward was but I have a feeling he would get confused.

Malkin - Neal - Someone else

    Crosby - Letang

Not really a fair comparison. Given the B's don't have a single Offensive minded D-man they do okay on the powerplay.

The B's are going to have to win despite their PP.  Not an ideal approach, but it's been inept for so long there's no reason to think it will suddenly come alive for the playoffs.  They just need to stay out of the box themselves.

The difference is confidence. The Pens expect to score on the PP. The B's expect not to get scored on when on the PP.

The power play didn't let them down tonight. They had a ton of chances...they made Johnson look all world. The guys on NBC made mention of how well Pittsburge played defensively....what game were they watching?

I'd expect to score on the PP with Crosby, Neal, Malkin and Letang out there, too.

The Bruins haven't had a consistent PP threat since Savard.

I'd say offensive talent and the way they handle the puck. Crosby, Malkin, Letang etc......it doesn't get any better then what the Pens PP have.

Besides the talent, did you see the constant movment by the pens players, stark contrast to the Bruins

    Can't disagree with you there.

But when you have guys like the Pens have with their ability to withstand the puck pressure because of their skills of protecting the puck with their stickhandling it makes it much easier to have the constant movement.

It's very difficult to take away the puck from a Malkin or Crosby which gives the others the time to find the seams of the box to get in a good scoring position.

The Pens PP passing is also superb and second to none.

power plays only happen when refs call penalties. in the playoffs, they call much fewer penalties. power plays can run hot or cold. i'll take the best 5v5 team in the league over a team with a great power play anyday. what's killing us as bruin fans is IF the bruins had a top PP, THEY would win the presidents trophy, and blow through the playoffs. well, that aint gonna happen it seems. so stay out of the box, and beat everyone 5v5. worked last year. the thing is, if the PP even "warms up", the b's will be unstoppable. everything is OK, i dare say this year's PP is better than last year's.

Of course it helps when you have superstars but many teams with a better PP than the B's do not have that luxury either. You can just see the lack of confidence oozing out of the B's when they get the chance. A team with Marchand, Bergeron, Krecji, Lucic, Seguin, Chara, et. al should not have this much difficulty or for so long a period of time.

The Pens expect to score and attack both the puck and the net, hungry and confident. They even did so last year in the playoffs without Malkin and Crosby. Most of their playoff goals were on the PP.

Yeah Savard is gone but its time to get over it and perhaps adjust?

Exactly, they can hang with any team 5 on 5. Just can't afford to give teams like the Pens the powerplay never mind 5 on 3's. They will kill you every time.
