Something to think about. We all know that Thomas is not going to get resigned in Boston. So the Bruins have the option of playing him for one more year, or trading him. The smart thing to do would be to trade him since he has considerable trade value.
If Thomas does take a year off, then he completly screws Boston by preveting them from trading him. Sure that woud clear up cap space, but would prevent the Bruins from picking up something of value for him.
By simply stating that he may take a year off, Thomas has essentially reduced his trade value. After all, who would trade any player of value to the Bruins for Thomas if it is unclear if Thomas will even play.
